Well just wait, if there's a big one, everyone will come rushing back to check in. You are right to be excited and interested by this newest activity. And this activity is not isolated. Just before this new, or should I say a left over swarm from January, started, There has been a series that runs from a southwest to northeast direction. This wouldn't be that curious except for the fact that this is the same direction as the faulting the runs southwest from the north dome. It's as if the series of quakes is an extension of the faulting. New faulting?

You are also right to think that something may be brewing. Because the quakes seem to be growing. Of course they could suddenly stop. But I doubt it. There's too much volcanic activity happening world wide. I posted an article a couple weeks back that suggested three major hot spots seemed to act in concert. I think it was Toba, Iceland and Yellowstone. I don't believe in things being completey isolated.

This doesn't mean Yellowstone will blow. It means that somehow the eruption in Indonesia is somehow having an influence on Yellowstone. I could be wrong. But that's what I've observed while watching Yellowstone. I have no idea what's happening exactly and why. But I've noticed it seems that there's pressure that circulates around the globe until it finds a weak spot and finds a way out. Yellowstone seems to be having sympathy pains.

At one of the most active locations on Earth (inside the Yellowstone caldera!) a dozen 1.0-3.5's do not indicate anything. A swarm of quakes increasing in magnatiude towards 5.0 and more would indicate a level of activity that could potentially lead to a catastrophic eruption. You won't even notice a 1.0 or 2.0. You MIGHT notice a 3.0, if you are sitting still in relative calmness and you are alert. At 4.0 you can actually be MADE aware by the movement, but there is still a good chance you won't notice it.

While I agree this certainly in no way means it is leading to an eruption (I never indicatd that), it is POSSIBLY leading to another swarm. Now, I don't care WHO you are, any swarm at Yellowstone bears watching.

She is the biggest giant in the world so when she talks, we better all darn well listen because we never know if she is just whisperig at us to remind us she is there, or getting ready to yell.

Lake Toba, Sumatra is actually the biggest. Guess where that is? Indonisia. Ring a bell?

There is definately a lot of activity over there at the moment.

The prsent quake and volcano alert has had some unusual happenings of late, and anything may be a clue to the whole ballet thats being enacted.
Earth as a living breathing entity is being recognised by everyone with eyes to see....I too think that everything is connected though the connections may be difficult if not impossible to trace.
The multitude of awakening volcanos makes me wonder if there ever was a time when we had this many going off simultaneously.(in mans history)though i am sure that vulcanism has been more active at times past....
Thinking of activity in terms of the antipodal opposites of volcanic sites, i often wonder if these may correspond somehow with earthquakes too....too great a statistical puzzle for my resources but it could reveal some unforseen info....

Yup, I should have said ONE of the biggest.

I've been keeping a very close eye on the action over there, because I feel everything is connected to some sort of degree. Most of the might not even be measurable by us....happening over thousands or millions of years, but it is all interlocked.

I pray that the volcanic activity is self-limiting and Toba stays quiet. I haven't even been paying attention to Yellowstone....but I guess she doesn't want to be forgotten.

Edit to add: stirling, you and I were posting at the same time, thinking the same thing!!

See Antipodes Map Venezuela coast roughly.

You can soon find out what is the opposite side of the globe.

Well, I was going to try and list all the stations I was getting info from, but I can't get GEE to work right for me right now. I can only pull up a couple of the TA.H17 stations, and then I get an error message if I try to load any of the WY.

The onese I was looking at were: WY.YMC / WY.YWB / and I think WY.YDC

I can't get any of them up now though.

Here is the latest Yellowstone list:

Looking at the seismos, I imagine that list will get filled in with smaller quakes, but it seems to be slowing down today.

Looks like just a couple of smaller ones so far today, so it appears over. I think it is still significant however, as it indicates where these aread of 'unrest' are traveling.

Am I alone here now?

YELLOWSTONE IS RUMBLING!

I don't know if anyone else has noticed, but I have been watching Yellowstone for some time now. Most days there are 10 to 20 quakes at Yellowstone. Today the map is showing 57 and counting!

I'm not even sure how to prepare for this one. If Yellowstone blows it will be devastating.

Here is a link to the most recent map:

Welcome to ATS. This particular thread to which AM directed you is (a) very long and (b) packed full of information. I don't suppose for one minute that you will get through all 636 pages. Bedtime reading for many weeks I think.

57? Ah well, when it gets to 457 a day then it might be a bit interesting!

Seriously though, that is nothing to be worrying about and anyway they are all tiddlers. The best it can manage is a 2.1

Yes Yellowstone is rumbling - it is always rumbling.

I don't know if anyone else has noticed

You can rest assured that if a bison fart shows on the Yellowstone seismos then someone on the thread will spot it.

Ole Yella seems to be ramping up for her yearly Earthquake swarm in December!

I've read this entire thread, and this time's activity seems to be dead center in the caldera and a mini-swarm near the northwest on the edge of the caldera... It will be interesting to watch in the coming weeks/Months.

IF a swarm begins again for the..third winter in a row (this will be the third year, right?). I am guessing the extra weight of the snow is causing these swarms, or the cold weather freezing the ground up allowing less out-gassing to occur perhaps?

The commonality between the two major swarms was the position of the moon, sun and earth. Do your own study. The small swarm recently was in the area of January swarm and started with a new moon. On February 13th there was a small swarm starting on the new moon.

You're partly right when you point to the snow as the cause. It's the water. It's the tides.

Just wanted to add that although the recent small swarm, in the January swarm location, seems to have ceased, but I am noticing very small activity that hints of more to follow.
