It's also easier to notice how after a big shock a great number of aftershocks and other earthquakes are triggered. In the video this happens at 3:35, just after the 3.87 magnitude one (the strongest occurred in the swarm).

By the way a small spike (300 nanometers) just occurred beneath the lake northwest of Yellowstone.

I've been reading this thread more or less since it started, because I'm interested and if Yellowstone goes, we all suffer eventually. It's a great thread....but that video you just made is simply brilliant. Thank you so much for making all that effort, and it really makes the patterns clearer.

I love it! Wonder if FOX will keep it for the next swarm LoL...any chance of adding a Graphic Positioning component to it? not to diminish your achievement...it is good...maybe a variation of something like this for a background...

Just a passing thought...no disrespect ment...
BTW: You could B/W / Grey Scale it so quake colors aren't lost in the background...

I noticed... Your workings truly adds more depth to the activity and enhances a more complete understanding..
Redoubt is rumbling good - gotta make a store run :-).. mUsT hAvE bEeR for the big blow..

Shirakawa and PuterMan you guys are the greatest. That was a fantastic display combining sound with visual data. The timed fading of prior events certainly helped to illustrate specific patterns of activity as well. Most visuals I have seen retained old data and became occluded with too much data to discern true patterns.

Great work!! Thank You.

This time I cut down graphic details to speed up render times (to render a single frame it takes little time, but to render thousands for a whole 5 minutes animation... a lot!), but I'll think about that in my next video!

(this also could help triggering Youtube's high quality mode, which I suspect has never been made available for my earthquake videos because of their lack of graphic and motion detail; too bad for the last one as it also had high quality stereo sound)

Most interesting, and especially the carbon. That is why some who do not agree with the human cause of global warming do not deny global warming and think it is because of carbon being emitted by volcanoes.

Here is a 1997 article referring to the carbon that Yellowstone is emitting into the atmosphere.

I was going to attempt to do a animation of quake activity from 12-26 to present using google earth and thought provokers kmz data from the thumbnail site but with snagit capturing 48 seconds at 76+ MB on a 756x632 format it would get rather huge rather fast...maybe in a animated gif format as opposed to a avi might be the way to go...hhhmmm...thoughts?

PS: I do like the stereo audio aspect though! It would be cool to use Seismo's from adjoining sites and combine them...virtual 3-d'ish!

PSS: A major draw back of the KMZ format is it shows only daily events not min/hr by min/hr...so it would be 1 day group...next day...next day...ect...would be a MAJOR pain to convert each event to a KMZ

I have never used that program, but I think you have to specify a video codec to compress incoming data or the video will become extremely big quickly as it's probably being outputted in an uncompressed format. For a similar work while capturing data from a PCI video capture card a few months ago I used a MPEG4 codec at 8000 Kbit/s bitrate.

Anyway, I personally think that 24 hours -> 5 minutes time compression is already too fast for audio; if you're going to make an animation of seismic activity with audio from 2008-12-26 to present it's going to be a VERY long video.

With my video I used for both stereo channels seismic data from YLA (the webicorder wasn't active at that time, but the station was!) and YTP. With modern audio systems more could be used (4-7 channels), but then the thing would get very complicated to set up and also require a special audio compression format that I think wouldn't properly work on common video sharing websites.

True...I have several Professional Video/Audio Editing Programs (Sony Vegas/Soundforge comes to mind...) to change input/output formats.

I just used the Snagit to get a rough look at how it would appear using 3-D screen manipulation (ground level to overhead/circular N/S/E/W views).

Maybe the daily format would work for overall area/movement trends with a short detailed mass event swarm IE: few minutes closeup with stereo audio...something to put on the look into lists...

Where are you seeing that exactly? Gee? USGS webpage?
EDIT:
Now that I think about it, you mean the lake on the Northwest area of Yellowstone park, don't you?

A sustained burst of volcanic tremor has just occurred, but this did not result in any eruptive activity and no ash emission has occurred.

AVO is monitoring and evaluating the situation closely.

Redoubt is still at aviation color code ORANGE and volcano alert level WATCH.

I have been reading this thread since day one. I applaud the efforts of those who post often. I have learned so much and I share often with my students as well. The knowledge is passed far beyond those individuals who read this thread. Thank you---you know who you are!!!

I know it's all connected, but ironically, on that map mt. Redoubt is exactly in the "empty" area between the two full of reported earthquakes.
