Hey, Mike you mentioned Redoubt in your post (by the way-* Excellent postings*!!!)

Here is the latest on Redoubt, came across a wire about 30 mins ago.

link to article:www.comcast.net...

Melting glacier shows heat under Alaska volcano 35 minutes ago ANCHORAGE, Alaska — Geologists monitoring Mount Redoubt for signs of a possible eruption noticed that a hole in the glacier clinging to the north side of the volcano had doubled in size overnight — and now spans the length of two football fields. Scientists with the Alaska Volcano Observatory on Friday flew close to Drift Glacier and spotted vigorous steam emitted from a hole on the mountain.
By Saturday, they had confirmed the area was a fumarole, an opening in the earth that emits gases and steam, that was increasing in size at an alarming rate.

They also saw water streaming down the glacier, indicating heat from magma is reaching higher elevations of the mountain. "The glacier is sort of falling apart in the upper part," research geologist Kristi Wallace said.

The signs of heat add to concerns that an eruption is near, which could send an ash cloud about 100 miles northeast toward Anchorage, the state's largest city, or onto communities on the Kenai Peninsula, which is even closer to the mountain on the west side of Cook Inlet. It would be the first eruption since 1990.

I truly hope that is not a sign for a potential flank collapse - could cause a big problem for local coastal communities..

Just wanted to chime in here and give thumbs up to you Mike!

This is bigger than us and it will take ALL of us to figure it out! I think it's very admirable and saving the world type stuff! But hey, no pressure!

Pretty much summed it up for me Mike! But you forgot to mention my earthquake lights!
Oh well, without out a way to prove what some of this really is, we won't know for sure. While I'm the first to beleive conspiracy theories, it makes no difference. Until proven either way, it is all just speculation. Darn it.
Until Jake or someone official comes on and explains it, all we have is tidbits. I'd like to blame it on the russians woodpecking YS, but it does not really matter to the little guy living close by. All he knows or cares about is the basics like whether this puppy is gonna go off. Unless the russian dude actually pinging it posts on here, we can't find out anyway. Know what I mean? Same with all of it. We may be close or way off base. Diggin' in the wrong hole, so to speak.
This thread is as credible as anywhere for getting YS information! IMO

I believe Ball lightning has been associated with earthquakes, maybe this would be a source for "some" Eq lights?

Guys... not to sound rude or else, but there's already a Redoubt Volcano thread in this section which would benefit of more posts and discussions regarding its current status: Alaska - Mt Redoubt Volcano could erupt within days

Yes, that's it! Ball lightning has also been mistaken for UFO's, I've heard!
But that is another thread I'm purty sure!
Thanks for posting that!

I'll add a source or two here also:

Of interest:

" The book is devoted to a variety of different electromagnetic effects associated with earthquake, volcanic eruptions and underground explosion. Strong deformation, large-scale failure of rocks and seismic wave emission accompany all these phenomena. resulted from deformation and fracture of solid including the following effects: shock polarization and magnetization of rock, emission of charged particle and light, electric discharges and lightnings (for the case of high-yield detonation) caused by fracture, inductive seismomagnetic and seismoelectric phenomena, generation of ULF electromagnetic noise, effect of charged gas-dust clouds arising from explosion and excitation of the ionosphere by upward-going shock wave etc. The main goal of the book is to demonstrate that the electromagnetic effects caused by both earthquakes and explosions have frequently the common mechanisms resulted from deformation and fracture of rock. The book mainly consists of the critical review of generally accepted and recent theories as well as own results of author including some original ideas and theories that have not published yet. Besides there are a review of experimental results obtained by other investigators. "

True, but it also has been mentioned, with YS, being active as it is, there is a slight possiblity that Redoubt can actually affect YS. That is the reasoning behind the posting of what is going on.

I know this thread is about YS, but what is a good question, is ... if there is a BIG explosion and event from Redoubt, what could be the consequences to YS?

Could it set YS off , even more?

I agree! By the study of a pre-eruptive volcano everyone can incorporate the information into YS observation.

Sounds like they're trying to make a connection between ULF precompression on areas before actual measurable movement takes place. It seems these precursors being measured are limited by...

1.) Equipment limiting detection at these ULF/Amplitude
2.) Masking from Local Seismic background events
2.) Make up of Local Geography (IE: Aquafiers/Crustial Dielectric/seismo-acoustic resistance)

Sounds intriguing...being as YS has a large Liquid component to its makeup, measuring differences between solid and liquid seismo-acoustic coupling could help shed light on future pre/post compression events for forecasting...they just need real Sensitive Low Freq (0-10 Hz) measuring instruments in a wide range of locations.

Kind of like when you drop a Rock in a Liquid...there are ridges and valleys of varying acoustic pressure/Frequency before and after the actual wave mass arrives.

Someone already has a form of what you speak of.

Check out and scroll down the page to see about 6 or so animations. After playing them there are other windows that open up with more info.
