Is a 5.6 quake damaging? Just seen on eQuake a 5.6 in the Gulf of Cali and might this show on the Yellowstone region recordings?

Looks to have shown up well on the Mary Lake graph.

Are you saying you felt it in Wyoming?

I think it was the quake showing up dusty... (ah, just noticed your edit).

Yeah, early. is isn't.. (So early)

PWave travel distance of 4.5 to 5 minutes from the center to Yellowstone. It fits right in.

Sorry, no. I just set up a quake alert system and it woke me up.
Works! Now I just need to figure out how to limit it to Yellowstone.
Although with this stuff going on....

And the cycle begins...or continues depending on which angle it is looked at.

2nd line

I have been reading this post from the onset and must say thank you to all the hard work and data collection.

A few people have noted that this may be connected to the solar activity at the moment and so do I.

About a year ago I did read an article on a solar storm the day after the 2004 earthquake that caused the Tsunami,i will keep searching for this reference from the scientists that compiled the data.

COSMIC RAYS MAY HELP PREDICT EARTHQUAKES

Zreda, a cosmogenic isotope geochemist and assistant professor in the department of hydrology and water resources, and Noller, a seismologist, measured trace amounts of the chlorine isotope chlorine-36 (36Cl) on surfaces of bedrock exposed by faulting action at a site in Montana in order to date earthquake events there. The 36Cl results from chemical changes in surface elements that react with neutrons and muons produced by cosmic rays that enter the Earth's atmosphere.

Possible Cosmic Influences on the 1966 Tashkent Earthquake and its Largest Aftershocks

Cosmic influence on the strongest earthquakes

Cosmic Influence on the Sun-Earth Environment

The Star-Sun-Earth connection has the potential to influence the thermosphere, atmosphere, ionosphere and lithosphere. Initial correlation of the cosmic and Sun-Earth connection has shown the possibility of predicting earthquakes, sudden changes in atmospheric temperatures and erratic rainfall/snowfall patterns.

i'll write more later

I just came across this blog while searching to see if there were any news reports of the recent Gulf of Cali quake.

I've never seen such information before, what do you guys make of it?

THE SHORE LINE... SHOWS ANOTHER INCREASED LEVEL OF INTENSE UNDER GROUND PRESSURE OF MORE UNDER GROUND DISTURBANCE TAKING PLACE. THIS MOVEMENT IS ALSO BEING FORCED NORHT DIRECTION COMING FROM THE PETROLIA CALIFORNIA LOCATION OFF SHORE. WE ARE IN A 5.5 MAGNITUDE LEVEL FROM THE COASTAL AREA OF BANDON ON UP TO LINCON CITY AREA. RISK LEVEL IS 65% RANGE. THERE IS YET MORE WEATHER STORM ACTION ON THE WAY MAKING THE UNDER GROUND PRESSURE REMAIN IN A HIGH LEVEL. DURING MORE WEATHER STORM ACTIONS WE ARE REMAINING IN A QUAKE RISK TO THE COASTAL AREA.

To add..has anyone else noticed that unusually very bright star in the early evening that hangs at about the 2 o-clock position? Of course it will appear at a different position depending on where you are located, but here in Casper Wy, that bright star is prominent and clearly much much brighter than the other stars that show up in the evening.

Researching.

Cheers!!!!

You are seeing a planet, it looks extra spectacular in the early evening because it is low on the horizon and goes through more atmosphere

Indeed, as to which one, well I am going to confirm that with the sky plotter later this evening around 6p MST, about the same time I saw it the other day.

I dont rule out anything until absolute.

I think that anyone who writes in capitals should be ridiculed, and then killed in the face with fire. It demeans everything they've written,it's akin to writing out your email adress in green crayon.

Guess I should have widened my angle of the projected path a bit.
I'm guessing it's about time to hold on to your hats for more to come soon.

The planet in question is Venus. It has been around for a while in the early evening in Ireland.

Although I am still compiling data on the links and solar system influence to all of this, Im also watching these graphs to try to keep updated with that. I am finding some very interesting linkage to alot of this. At this moment I am going over some HD physics papers done by Russian scientists. Im not for certian, but I am seeing a link that is not just outside of Earth or the solar system influencing things, its in another dimension.

If someone could, plot those paths and links and see where the most active points are and their coordiantes. Im taking a much needed break for a bit.

Cheers!!!!

It's a tad bigger than the typical ones we see there, which during the past year or so have not run over a mag 5, but on the other hand it's nothing startling. If we see something in the mag 6-plus range down there it would be of some concern.

Here's a list of all the quakes within a 200-mile (320 km) radius of that quake's location, from Jan 5 2008 to Jan 4 2009, mag 4.0 or higher, from the NEIC database search facility. There have been 12, none of them over mag 5. Since Jan 05 1999, though, there have been 36 quakes in that same radius of mag 5.0 or higher. Link to NEIC data

So, nothing specially to worry about....if taken in isolation...

Relating this to Yellowstone -- that being the topic of this thread -- as several members have pointed out already, it is helpful to keep an eye on what is happening elsewhere in respect of seismic activity, especially where distant quakes' P-wave signals might be picked up by helicorders in Yellowstone. The Afghan quakes are a good example as they were picked up very well and showed rather "long wave" traces that had some members quite concerned because they were apparently unaware that distant quakes could produce exactly those sorts of traces. I posted data and links to show that not only were these pick-ups common, but for that (Afghan) case, some Yellowstone stations were even logged in the P-wave detection list on one of the Afghan quake's scientific data pages.

Simply put, before jumping to conclusions that something "must be" happening in Yellowstone because the helicorders there show unusual traces, it's not a bad idea to check the trace times and then see if there have been larger quakes elsewhere in the world whose P-Waves could be affecting the readings.

Just to clarify, I'm in no way denying that things have been going on in Yellowstone; I have many posts on this thread relating to what might be happening there. And as has been mentioned by several members, scientists (including the oft-quoted Dr Bob Smith) acknowledge that distant quakes in some regions (eg Alaska) have been known to cause quake activity in Yellowstone, so we certainly have to keep a broad watch.

Cheers,

Mike
