why? why? why?

why would ISI or the pakistani government have anything to do with this?

especially when they know they are being watched like a hawk...

i am not saying there are double agents working with isi and some terrorist organization, but i highly doubt there is any pakistani government connection.

just seems too stupid, to be honest.

I was just about to say the same thing. The red band some Hindus wear around the wrists after Puja, is actually just a string, not a thick band.

These guys have been at it for years and years. Always over the Jammu & Kashmir issue. Had it not been for Bill Clinton's intervention in 2001, I'm pretty certain we would have blown each other up.

True terrorists don't really make demands. They just make political statements while attempting to incite as much fear in a target people as possible. Right?

actually the masterminds(ISI+others) seem to have deserted the active participants who have no idea what they are upto now and are just showing some false courage in the hope that they might get some orders in the near future. Any attempt to communicate now is surely going to be intercepted so they are in a bad position and and only way to relieve themselves is to die in an attack from the Indian forces.

You are obviously not very familiar with the past actions of the ISI. The criticism levelled at Pakistan is the government being unwilling to restrict the power of the ISI.

Even Pakistani media were reporting the nervousness from Islamabad. The 2001 Indian Parliament attack nearly resulted in war between Pakistan and India.

its ok to be cautios and certainly be prepared, but to let fear have anything to do with your daily life is irrational.

if, as an american, you are scared of this then you might as well go and live in a cave. there will always be some sort of outageous murdering going on...unfortunately.

ok. i can understand that. but to be fair and keep a frame of mind that is grounded, I believe it would be a good idea to make distinctions from actual government and/or people of Pakistan and rougue elements of their intelligence agency.

after all if america were judged by actions of the cia (which in some places it is) then who could call us a 'just' democracy or republic?

edit to clarify

Im fearful chaps.

Another unwanted story : www.zeenews.com...

Pakistani troops have violated the ceasefire and injured one Indian soldier on the LoC in Kashmir.

This can only add fuel to the fire. The Indian public have been restrained up to this point, despite sporadic terrorist attacks. However there seems to be a consensus that this attack is very different, because of its overtly warlike nature.

Compounded with ceasefire violations on the LoC; it seems like the government may have no option but to deliver an ultimatum to the Pakistani government, to destroy ISI and cease hostilities or face the consequences.

The last time in 2001-2002; an Indian minister went as far as to say "If attacked we can take a nuke or two from Pakistan, but when we retaliate there will be nothing left of Pakistan".

Edit : And another two bombings in another city. www.zeenews.com...

It looks like the terrorists have somehow coordinated attacks across the country to innundate the emergency response services.

This feels like India's 9/11. This feels like the starting shots of war.

the thickness is what happen when you get plenty of those on the top of each other. very common.

note that it is only observation of the picture, i am personally not willing to draw conclusions or guess theories.
at least for now.

too early.

(beside myself don't believe in religious terrorism whatever the religion stigmatised is, but myself fully believe in the political source of all kind of terrorism. recent history proves it, in india and outside:it is always about manipulation, intel services and hidden political agendas)

Good lord!
That is certainly going to escalate events. Did you hear what the Indian Prime Minister just said?

India would not tolerate "neighbours" who provide a haven to militants targeting it.

Edit: Forceful words from PM Manmohan Singh : "We will tell our neighbours that their territory being used to carry out attacks in India will not be tolerated."

That's one of the most hilarious statement i have heard today. It's very typical of india always blaming pakistan and ISI and than shutting up about it later.Same old crap i guess...

ISI is Pakistan's true power and india knows it very well.

It seems like Pakistan is in the crosshairs again. Let's hope Gilani complies otherwise we are looking at a nuclear standoff as in 2001-2002.

India's 'nuclear' standoff and it's artillary pile up at the borders is a mere joke.Pakistan knows india just talks loda crap but does nothing.

incorrect,

they vary from red to orange, some are just strings, some are larger bands, and many never put them off so they end up with a thick amount of them on the wrist.

A number of hostages have been freed from one of Mumbai's top hotels - one of several sites in the city targeted by armed men - eyewitnesses said.

But the situation at the Taj Mahal Palace hotel remains confused, with explosions and gunfire heard coming from inside the hotel.

Police chief AN Roy says gunmen are still believed to be holding hostages at the Oberoi Trident hotel.

The series of attacks began late Wednesday and have killed 101 people.

Well I hate to be Ameri-centric, but is it coincidence they launched this at the beginning of a 4 day weekend in the US? Talk about ensuring major airtime and attention.

Well yes there is a high possibility of that. The PM did stress on the fact the militants wanted to cause panic.

Regarding how long their supplies will last. If this was very well planned out
perhaps they thought about stockpiling some supplies at the hotels. How good was security? Would it be possible to transport a few cases up to the rooms?

I was just at a tradeshow and let me tell ya we could have loaded several crates of ammo into one of those rooms, hotel security paid no attention (well there really was none).

.. Yes the 'city that never sleeps' was not high on security (only at the airports). Well India has never been a place with maximum security and closely monitored areas like the western nations.
Moreover there is no threat level alert issued by state or some sort of siren warning urging residents to remain indoors. There are no protected public shelters and no emergency warning broadcasts. The self-imposed curfew is of no use as people are still stepping out and moving around which makes them sitting ducks.

So it could be that these militants saw an easy access and a vulnerable city (lots of foreigners..so targeting them along the way) and take over while creating chaos everywhere before the police and the army could react.

This is how the terror attack was probably carried out. This is based on the various reports emanating from a variety of sources and news channels. I have tried to put all this together and this is what turns up:

After 2/3 months of training, reconnaissance of potential targets in Mumbai and preparation under the Pakistani ISI, a group of around 20 terrorists disgorged themselves from the mother ship (which likely came from Karachi) a few kms from shore in two/three rubber dinghies.

The terrorists were armed to the hilt carrying big rucksacks and duffle bags containing small arms ammo, hand grenades, local currency, emergency rations etc. They disembarked from their boats at the Gateway of India near the Taj Mahal Hotel and proceeded to their respective targets in pre arranged/positioned transport like cars pre-positioned by local underground cells . The nearer targets like the Taj were covered on foot. There were a total of about 10 targets that apart from the Taj, were Hotels Trident and Oberoi/Hilton, Café Leopold and the Main Mumbai Rail terminus, among others.

At the given time they commenced firing indiscriminately killing scores of innocent people creating a wave of terror. The group earmarked for the Taj quickly entered the lobby, firing indiscriminately killing the receptionists and creating mayhem in the main lobby by throwing hand grenades. They then went up to the top floor and attempted to blow down the domes of the tower and set the Taj on fire.

At each location, the aim was to make international headlines by rounding up American, Israeli and British citizens whom they segregated and are holding hostage.

Marine Commandos, the National Security Guard (flown in from Delhi) Rapid Action Force, and finally the Army was called in and the time consuming action of searching and clearing each of the 250 rooms, kitchens, restaurants, basements etc of the Taj hotel had commenced by the morning of the 26th, as were the other hotels. The local police cordoned off the rail terminus and the other terrorist targets.

This operation could perhaps last into the night. By 1700h IST as per reports, 8 suspected terrorists have been apprehended and 5 killed.

This was a coordinated Fidayeen (Suicide) attack by motivated terrorists aided by local criminal underground cells who provided the logistics. The terrorists had a one way ticket to hell as it seems they had no plan for extraction.

Their aim? Possibly to swap the hostages they have taken for the hundreds of militants in Indian jails. To also create the maximum casualties and mayhem that would have a deleterious affect on the still booming economy of India. And probably threaten the US to withdraw from Iraq/Afghanistan or Israel to pull back from ‘occupied territories’ otherwise the life of the American/British/Israeli hostages would be at stake.

The Israeli angle may be a stretch, but certainly not the others! It would be impossible for local militant groups to have carried out this strike. It was doubtless planned, aided and abetted by outside forces like Pakistan's ISI, using home-grown terrorist groups like the LeT, Jaish-e-Muhammed etc.

Let's see how it unfolds.

Yes it does have that feel.

My God if India nuked Pakistan, especially the badlands they could wipe out the leaders of dozens of terrorist groups from all over the world.

I recall when they thought they had a member of Al Queda on the run in those mountains, the U.S. forces made a big deal about a "high ranking" individual that had a small army defending him as he dashed away in a convoy. Turns out when they intercepted radio trasmissions he was some Chechen bigshot!

That area is so thick with terrorists you can't swing a stick without hitting one.
