India Under Terror Attack! At least ten people killed in Mumbai shootings: TV (now 125 +)

Could this actually be a precursor to an attack on U.S. soil over the holidays? Maybe I've just had too much free time lately, but it seems that the timing would be ideal, right? I mean just one day away is the annual Greed frenzy of "Black Friday". Also, with the given state of economic upheaval in the U.S. and pretty much everywhere else, combined with the POTUS transition. Is it just me or is anyone else getting the feeling that each day they wake could be the day they will see some crazy stuff like the events unfolding presently before the eyes of these Indian people? I don't want to contribute to any conspiratorial mayhem......but the tension does seem to build.

Poor Ghandi must be rolling over in his grave right now...

I hope justice prevails...Maybe Kharma or 'God'...Anything...

Two explosions at the Taj Palace Hotel, BBC journalists report explosions. Apparently, according to NDTV, the terrorists carried visa credit cards the names are either Indian or Pakistani

How could they differentiate between Indian or Pakistani names?

Do Indian and Pakistani names have a different ring to the than all the other middle eastern countries?

Interesting update.

The IL-72 is an Ilyushin heavy lifter transport cargo plane. What capacity is that being used in? I think they are probably carrying NSG commandos or Rapid Action Force units.

all the ghandis have been cremated dude...so they wont be doing any rolling anytime soon...

NSG is ready with its rocket launchers and are making way towards the Nariman House, the Israeli hostages seem to have been rescued but not yet confirmed, but the NSG has marched in with their weapons and are about to open fire at them...

Yes the IL 72 is used to carry the NSG commandos from Delhi to Mumbai...they are bringing in 400 more as per some News Reports

also has it been confirmed that they came in on fishing boats?

this rumour is direct from bombay, my work colleague has family in the surburbs

Yes, you can tell where a person is from by the nature of their name. Indian names are linked to a person's ancestry, which in turn is inextricably linked to the region that they are from.

eg. The AntiTerror Squad chief who was gunned down was called "Karkare" which is indicative of Maharashtrian Maratha heritage.

RAW (Research and Analysis Wing) = Indian Intelligence know what they are on about when it comes to names. They will no doubt have an innate understanding of the terrorists' backgrounds when they are questioning them.

Incidentally, Stratfor's interrogation specialist was reporting that the terrorists who were captured are currently (as he put it) "under considerable duress" = torture. Apparently RAW are trying to press out any information about any further planned attacks which would be designed to catch paramedics, police and fire services.

Sky News are reporting that the Indian Navy are boarding a vessel and they've recovered a dinghy that may have been used. Speculation is the terrorist came in by sea.

That doesn't paint a high level of optimism for a successful outcome. Using rocket launchers to rescue hostages has the potential to create a blood bath.

I'm in another city in India. So far the above posts by you guys are pretty much the same as what I've gathered from the newspapers this morning and the various news channels.

They supposedly went around checking the passports of people. They were targeting both British and American tourists.

The news reports that the group behind this called themselves the "Deccan Mujahideen". It's probably a cover for some other group. But the cops have arrested both Hindu and Muslim extremist nutjobs.

It could be the same group of people behind the previous round of bomb blasts in New Delhi and Bangalore.

The reports are so conflicting. I doubt the NSG would use rocket launchers.

Then again, other reports have said that the hostages have already been rescued; in which case a rocket strike might be a more calculated option than sending in commandos.

I have been to all these places and just cannot imagine such a situation. It is too scary.

Eye witnesses say all these men were young (in their early 20's) and they did not look like your average terrorists instead they looked like normal young lads..!

I am dying to know some information about these people. At some point yesterday I heard that there were 9 of them captured alive. But that piece of information seems to have disappeared.

about the name stuff, it is true for hindus only that you can get origin only from the name.

muslim have muslim names (khan, pervez, hussain etc and you cannot say much about geographic origins from those)

At this point I would take specific details about who these terrorists are with a agrain of salt.

Not that we will get contradictory stories in the future.
