HEY! I have an idea...maybe it was the tool bag the astronaut dropped in space...it was a decent size...if very small pieces of rock can light up the sky, I bet that bag would do a good job.

I bet they're worried about that...if it's traveling around the earth at 17K (or whatever it is) ...

I call shenanigans.

I've viewed all the links from "Canadian" T.V.

I've seen Strange Brew.

I've seen Fargo.

I didn't hear any of these "Canadians" say "eh" or refer to one another as "hosers" once.

Not one time.

This is obviously just some false-flag operation to test public reaction and dissemination times, or some-such. All you guys fell for it.

Suckers.

For what it's worth, I didn't notice here (Big Bend area Florida.)

All I have to say is this... "SCARED THE CRAP OUTTA ME!" That was the most intense meteor I have ever seen. Yes, it was slow moving, extremely bright and about the size of 2 softballs from my viewpoint, with a huge fiery tail. I was on my way to pick my husband up, something caught my eye as I looked up into the sky. It looked like a shooting star at first... until it got bigger and brighter instead of burning out like they normally do. It looked like it was going to hit the area where my husband was waiting. My heart was pounding... it was very scary and lasted several seconds, but was also amazingly beautiful!

PLEASE

Just One damn Cloverfield or Gihdorah

heck, I'd settle for the Blob

and, no offense Canadians, but ... you have it to good, it would be the best Irony if a space monster crashed to earth Not in NYC or Tokyo but Edmonton

No one would have seen that coming...

actually, that would make for a funny movie...

Dont You find it a bit funny by looking at the size of that thing in the video, theres no videos being uploaded to youtube, nothing on the news and no casualties or anything reported that by looking at it had to cause some serious damage

Mysterious bright light seen over Edmonton

EDMONTON - It wasn't a bird and it wasn't a plane, but whatever it was in the skies over the city last night was far more exciting than either of those.

People across western Canada reported seeing a bright flaming object light up the sky around 5:30 p.m. Thursday. It was variously described as green, yellow, purple and blue and appeared as either an explosion or an object streaking through the sky. Sightings came from across the prairies; from as far south as Medicine Hat and as far north as Beauval, Sask., 600 kilometres from Edmonton.

Edmonton International Airport spokesman Jim Rudolph said "the skies east of the airport lit up" at 5:27 p.m.
"According to NavCanada, it appears that this was the result of a meteorite, but that has not been confirmed," said Rudolph, adding that operations at the airport were not affected.

"What we probably saw was a fireball, which is the result of a rock coming into the atmosphere," said Chris Herd, an associate professor in the University of Alberta's department of earth and atmospheric sciences and curator of the university's meterorite collection.

"The big question now is whether or not anything hit the ground."

Though many of the witnesses who contacted the Journal claimed to see something land, Herd said that was likely an optical illusion. Since the fireball was a bright light several kilometers up in a sky, it would have appeared close to anyone who saw it. If something did hit the ground, it's extremely unlikely anyone would have seen it. As the object fell through Earth's atmosphere, it would slow down, and the resulting decrease in friction would cause it to stop burning, Herd said.

"What we know about fireballs is that they're bright burning up for a certain amount of time in the atmosphere but then they stop burning brightly. If there's a rock that continues after that, it's falling in dark flight," he said.

"This could literally be a couple of kilometers up in the air and it could fall the whole rest of the way without giving off any

light. It could drop like a rock to the ground."

Herd said while fireballs are quite frequent, they don't generally happen over populated areas.

"Something as bright as this is pretty rare," he said.

If something did ultimately hit the ground, Herd said, it would be a very exciting find.

"It's not often that something actually lands and is found because of all the factors that are working against you," he said, adding he hopes anyone who finds a new rock in their yard tomorrow would get in touch with him.

For those who witnessed the fireball, Herd suggested that they report it to the Meteorites and Impacts Advisory Committee to the Canadian Space Agency, which can be found at Miac.uqac.ca.

well, it may have been huge, but if it landed outside of edmonton, or, like some reports are saying...even further west near the ab/sask border, there is a TONNE of farmland...so it could have landed in the usual farmers field...or dissipated before it did land? maybe the pieces were too small to cause damage?

Ok as Unknown Truth posted there is a video of it striking the earth.

Internos, is there any way to capture some screenshots from that vid?

I am as well an eye witness and agree with the comments abou the relative size of the fireball.. (From Edmonton) This is not a normal shooting star \ metor shower type thing you normally see in the sky .. this was a very large object. I was looking almost directly east and the object went from sligty north east in the sky to south east. Just for perspective the object appeared much larger than say a 727 would at 2 Miles distance. It was definately breaking up and I would be suprised if pieces did not impact the ground.

I live in Edmonton and saw it...

Was driving south at about 5:30 PM local time (mountain standard time) when out of the corner of my eye in the east the sky started lighting up until the ENTIRE eastern sky was as bright as day until finally I saw a HUGE BRIGHT orange fireball in the sky. It looked about as large as the sun would be in the day-sky, but about 5 to 10 times brighter. That lasted about 3-4 seconds when it seemed to break up and streaked across the sky, still as a large fireball for another 2 or 3 seconds, until it finally looked like a firework being shot up into the sky (but obviously in the opposite direction) and at the same time it appeared to be breaking up into 2 or 3 smaller objects until it finally dissapeared over the horizon.

But anyways the weather at the time was totally clear, it was very dark out as the sun goes down about 5:00 local time this time of the year. The moon wasn't out or anything so it was VERY bright and VERY large.

Someone I know who was driving out in the middle of the country said it literally made everything seem like it was bathed in sunlight.

Edmonton is in central Alberta, but people seen it all the way in southern Alberta, northern Alberta, and even in Saskatoon which is about six hours south east of Edmonton in Saskatchewan.

It's definitely a one in a lifetime experience!

the flash of light doesn't necessarily show that it HIT the earth though...the flash is what numerous people reported, even as far north as here in fort mcmurray...and surely we wouldnt be able to see that flash of contact from here...am i not looking at the right videos?

The vid is fantastic. Did you see the way the tail (debris) follows the flash right in as in slow motion.

Fantastic. Need a copy - First one to post download link wins star

Hey felt like I should say something, I actually saw it happen and it felt like the weirdest thing. It was about 5:25 PM here in Edmonton and I was on an absolutely packed like sardines bus home.

It was already very close to night time darkness and out of the corner of my eye I saw the sky suddenly flare up orange so I looked up out the window and saw what I can only describe as a huge fireball flying down diagonally to the right. I said "ho!" out loud involuntarily when it happened, completely shocked and then I looked around and at the person in front of me and no one else noticed it!

I thought I was going crazy till the first thing my sister said to me when I came home was that she saw a bright green light flare up the whole sky...not too sure how she saw green though because what I saw was literally a huge flaming ball, 2 or 3 times as big as the moon.
