Well, I don't know about the bigger picture as of yet but, I will say this. That first vid, who ever those folks are better not plan to fight the way they are doing in that vid or they might as well plan to die lol! That was one of the most uncontrolled small unit tactics I've seen in years. And they seem to have no worries at all concerning fire discipline and ammo use lol! I am convinced this vid is staged. Otherwise, this is a vid of poorly trained weetards

US condemning Russia. I love it when the pot call the kettle black. We would NEVER go into another country and kill civilians.

Yeah, the coverage by the US media has been pretty inadequate. I don't know if it's because the media doesn't want to cover it, doesn't have anyone there yet to, or knows that most of the US could probably care less. Throw in the fact that far too many Americans probably can't find the Georgia that is a part of the US on the map and there ya go.

Big news there, it's not an area I'm know alot about so I'm having to do some research into past history. Those that seem to know it best here also seem to be apologists for one side or the other.

I'm sure what's going on is being discussed by diplomatic and national security types in capitals throughout the West this weekend. I imagine these events are especially worrisome to places like Ukraine, Latvia, Estonia, and Lithuania. I also would suspect that this is being taken very seriously by former Warsaw nations who have cozied up to the west over the past 2 decades.

Many people here have, pretty acurately IMO, described how Russia could see this as payback or blowback over Kosovo, creeping NATO encirclement, missle defense shield, and other real or percieved threats and slights. Barring some type of Machiavellian back room deal involving a quid pro quo vis a vi Iran, I can really see only one potential silver lining for the west. There could be a strenghtening of the NATO alliance after this. The Bear is definately out of hibernation, and I bet one thing Western defense and diplomatic types are no longer debating is the relevence of NATO. The North Atlantic Treaty Organization no longer seems like the anachronism it sometimes did less than three days ago.

I think it is pretty clear many elements are now spiralling out of control. This just may be the Ferdinand of the war to end all wars.

I doubt this will escalate into something bigger. The ones talking about a world war because of this doesnt seem to know that there are constant conflicts like this going on all over the world. Just because a superpower is involved doesnt mean that a large scale multi nation war is coming.

I dont think we'll ever have a World War again in the same manner as WW1 and WW2. Small conflicts all over the place, sure, but not nations going together in alliances, putting on full scale wars. Everybody knows that the only end to that sort of conflict is everybody loses.

Some people here on ATS seem addicted to being afraid to be honest.

From my point of view, we are actually in World War 3 right now. And its small time conflicts and false flag attacks, not the full scale war Hollywood would have us believe it was going to be. The war is fought against the people (the "terrorists") and their freedoms to create a global surveillance union.

There are many people like Bush around the world, paranoid and afraid of what they dont know. They want to build walls to feel safe. They dont realize they will never feel safe, because its in their own nature to feel afraid.

Afraid to be honest. Honestly the Russians have been having knippers over the missile shield thing. I hope you are correct. And I am wrongo. For the worlds sake.
So much for Georgie looking into Putins eyes and seeing his soul.
'The war is fought against the people and their freedoms'. Tell that to the white phosphorused Iraqis. We'll bring freedom everywhere. Freedom of the mortal coil.

Here you go here are some latest NEWS.

The confrontation has sparked alarm in the West and led to angry exchanges at the U.N. reminiscent of the Cold War.

Georgia said that overnight, Russia had landed 4,000 troops by sea to the coast of Black Sea Abkhazia, the larger of Georgia's two breakaway regions.

Utiashvili said in the past few hours Russia had brought 6,000 troops into Georgia and a further 4,000 troops by sea. "All of them are waiting for dawn to start active actions," he told Reuters.

Putin said Georgia's bid to join the Western alliance NATO -- anathema to Moscow -- was part of the problem.

here's nice link as well

You need conflicts in order to make people feel afraid. All the new laws in the US (patriot act and the other disgusting ones) are coming because the government has managed to make people feel like they are under attack. 9/11 was the best false flag attack yet.

The Iraq war is not intended to be won, its intended to be a constant source of conflict so Georgie can continue to come up with new ways to build walls around the prison (the US).

Maybe you have noticed how the entire world now talks about terrorists like it is something new and dangerous? They are all falling for the scam. We have had terrorists since forever. Its the same old world.

To see the truth, you need to look at the facts, not listen to the officials at eather side. Georgia blames Russia for killing civillians, but all refugees from Southern Osetia are in Russia. You not running to somebody who's trying to kill you( espetially when Georgia is much closer!!!) Georgia knew what it was doing very well, they got Russia into a war, and now playing innocent while hiding behind American strong back. Europe gonna do nothing, nobody wanna get in between Russia and America( that's what it's acually is)

Cossacks from Russia, many of them untrained civilians, have arrived to aid South Ossetia. They could have made up that unit in the video, and they have lots of bullets to spend, that's for sure.

Apparently Georgia is suing for peace right now but Russia is going ahead with the war. The USA will probably be done in Georgia soon.

The Russian military machine is massive, massive, massive.

Whic is the problem of a lot of ATS

What will be most sad is when those who have not prepared are caught unaware. Catastrophes, both natural and man made (if you can tell the difference anymore), are a certainty. Prepare for the worst and hope for the best.
-----------------------------------------------

Back on topic, it does seem that the conflict is ready to spread, and Turkey getting involved is very bad news indeed. With Bush and Putin arguing at the Olympics, even global theatre has been supplied. I'm AFRAID that the globalist endgame is afoot.

Russia is not the monster we think of it as.

They only have 142 million people living there.
The United States has 304 million people living there, documented.

Despite Russia's large size, the USA outnumbers them 2 to 1. When it comes to strictly military, size of the army and such, this may be different, but we all know the USA has better technology and weaponry, with the exception of just a couple of 'fringe weapons' the Russians have.

Russia cannot exert its' military power that far to be worried about. Sure, they could occupy Georgia in its' entirety if they really want to, including Abkhazia, and heck, they could even take out Azerbaijan and Armenia if they REALLY wanted to. But from there, they'd have a tough fight on their hands with Turkey and Iran, not to mention the USA in Iraq. I don't think Russia could even invade the Middle East all the way to Jerusalem and occupy it even if they used ALL of their conventional forces..

Why does it bother you? If I truly have no attachment to someones view and think it's silly, I just chalk it up that way and move on. Your protests reveal something else. Maybe a 'survival envy'?

This conflict spreading is no surprise at all. We have encroached on Russia since the Soviet Union fell. Walking away from the ABM treaty was utter foolishness. Trying to park ABM's in ex-soviet states was the height of arrogance. Pride goes before a Fall.

Eastern European nations who are not to fond of Russia are starting to send Georgia support, this could cause Eastern Europe to enter the war, which would drag the EU into the war.

Damn shame to. Hopefully ya'll wont drag us in on the whole deal for a third straight time.

Turkey is sending an "armada" to a Georgian port to protect the pipeline and it's citizens workers in the area. This puts the Turkish fleet within a stones throw of the Russian Fleet. Turkey is a NATO member, so NATO could be dragged in.

And the damn thing is, oil prices were just now starting to go down.

Edit: Uncomfirmed reports of Israeli "advisors" assisting the Georgian Army. Additional unconfirmed reports that U.S. "advisors" that were already in place are responsible for the shootdown of Russian aircraft.

Thats technically cause for war against the US if its true. I dont think Russia wants to get spanked though.
