I don't know, look at people's actions rather than their words. On one side we have the 'good guys' who are rallying behind a man who has indiscriminately shelled civilians in a large city, whose troops have reportedly been grenading cellars to clear out survivors and who has declared war on his neighbour.

On the other side we have the 'bad guys' who have sent troops to protect the civilian populace and drive out an aggressor following a declaration of war. Another of the 'bad guys' is calling for peace and offering to mediate in an effort to stop the killing.

I'm sure it's not that clean cut in reality (unlike the way the western media is reporting it) but things are looking a little backwards to me right now.

I don't really know what will happen.

and I hope it fizzles out, too many have died already in such a short time.

This is a minor skirmish - nothing more. Georgia will quickly back down when they realise they have annoyed the Russian bear. The US and NATO would be INSANE to help Georgia in any way militarily. They have nothing to gain and everything to lose. They would also be crushed by Russian military.

Plus, how would the NATO members suddenly be able to logistically provide armaments, troops etc to the region in such a short space of time. Surely there would need to be endless meetings, diplomacy, etc?

World War 3 ?

Have nothing to gain? There is much about this that apparently you aren't paying attention to:

You can start here:

debka.com...

Yup, this is about oil, and quess what? Oh yea, the CIA has meddling in Georgia for quite some time now.. supposedly fighting Al Queida under the bed. Unbelievable.

This not what is seems folks.

The oil pigs and globalists are at it again in a big way.

I think the BIG question we all need to ask ourselves is what the h#@% is the CIA doing meddling in Georgia? GREAT, we are now attacking Russia by proxy. For what reasons?

You better hope this dies down.. Don't forget that Russia has enough nukes to turn us into a glass pit. Or did you forget that already? Looks like the people who run our country have.. how convenient.

Its all about the drugs. Georgia is the drug route for the Opium coming out of Afghanistan on its way to Europe. That explains why you seen our drug czar in every meeting with Putin and Bush during the Olympics, When Putin was there.

I'll check out the thread. I know drugs are definitely a big cog in the wheel but oil is bigger with currency creation being the biggest. To me this is all about the globalist drive towards world oil economic hegemony.

Right now I'm trying to figure out all the 'interests' in the caspian oil and gas pipelines that run through georgia. Apparently, there are those who want this oil and gas to go somewhere else other than the Russian network and apparently, the CIA has been meddling and attempting to shape this 'agenda' as well.

It's amazing what happens in the name of "oil". Sad really.

We need to be more concerned about how to get off the oil addiction than trying to protect the sow. As this all makes more sense to me the more sick I get. Our national security shouldn't have anything to do with big oil and it's NOT our job to compartmentalize the world oil market to suit our interest OR our security.

Bunch of garbage!

Amazing video othehitmans. The hypocrisy of it all stinks to High Heaven.

I just found this on CNN:

www.cnn.com...

Apparently the Russians are not too happy with the basically CIA installed Georgian president. (The CIA fomented the "rose revolution") That along with the fact that it looks like Georgia started all this ('cleansing' their opposition, the South Ossetians) so you can't really blame Russia for what they are doing.

Now, the UN and US along with Bushi are whining about it:

"This is completely unacceptable and crosses a line," said the U.S. ambassador to the U.N., Zalmay Khalilzad, who made the allegation.

Zalmay? Why don't you sit down and SHUT UP.

When America 'removes' a democratically elected official it's ok right Zalmay?

www.dissidentvoice.org...

In 1953, the CIA and British intelligence orchestrated a coup d’etat that toppled the democratically elected government of Iran. The government of Mohammad Mossadegh. The aftershocks of the coup are still being felt.

This type of incident has happened since then but I mentioned this one due to it' notoriety and relevance to what's going on now. Mossadeqh was basically knocked over because he nationalized the oil fields and refused to allow BP what they wanted.

As you can see these types of shenanigans have been going on for quite some time now.

Of course as you can see it all backfired and is now coming back to haunt us.

Im embarrassed by the NATO and US response to this aggression. Russian troops haven't seen action since Afghanistan if im not mistaken, where as our troops have had a steady flow of combat experience, and battle hardened and far more superior technically. We should send a frank harsh warning to the rusty Russian bear, either get out within 72 hours or face a large scale military intervention. Its time the Western powers put their money where their mouth is, whats the point in flexing Military muscle against countries who we can easily defeat, if we don't have the resolve to go for a real fight.

Russian was using the guise of 'peace keeping forces' for their military presence in Georgian territory, well i say we send in some of our own 'peace keepers', to keep the 2 sides apart. Georgia provided troops to Iraq, and this is how we repay them?...Its nothing short of scandalous, it sends a message to all the worlds nations that if you ally yourself with us, we will not protect you from a Russian (or more than likely Chinese) attack.

Mark my words Putin is a dangerous man, he's a criminal and has criminal plans for the expansion of the Russian area of influence. The American and European peoples have ni more stomach for war, the Russians have sensed this and this is the first shot in a series of tactical maneuvers to re-draw the strategic map.

Our cowardly western leaders are shameful, while a Democratic aspiring nation like Georgia is under the Russian storm trooper boot, George Bush is munching on club sandwiches at the Beijing Hilton, and as for the rest of Europe, we can be sure to expect the usual chorus of 'strong words', well talk is cheap.

Watching the Olympic coverage on NBC a short while ago, I saw GWB join Bob Costas for an in-studio, live interview from Beijing.

Bush repeatedly mentioned that he's spoken with Putin and "the Russian president" [named Medvedev, Mr. President], yet made no mention of speaking with Georgia's president Mikheil Saakashvili. Essentially, he was telling the viewers that he has no admonishment for Georgia; Russia is at fault.

Bush expressed his opposition to the Russian presence in Georgia, even though the Georgians initiated the conflict by attacking ethnic Russians within Georgian South Ossetia.

Yes, it's about oil, Iran, the "New American Century", and as a previous poster pointed out, even the opium/heroin trade!

2012, here we come!

Nope, Georgia was hoping that it could get membership of NATO but it didn't happen.
Every commitment to the support of Georgia is verbal only.

E.g.
Georgia: We want to be a member of NATO.
America: We certainly support your right to ask to be a member of NATO.
Georgia: We demand support.
NATO: We certainly support your right to ask for support
Georgia: Help! This isn't working out so well.
America: We certainly support your right to ask for help... etc

hahah -sad but ture

O/T (slightly): is it me or does Putin still seem to be the front man for Russia, and the new President hardly heard of? Just what is the deal with that?

Back on topic...

How does oil enter into it? Does Georgia get to say where the oil goes? I didn't think they were an oil producing nation, or is it control Georgia, get to dictate where the oil goes? I can't quite see how that would work.

Putin going to war over losing 7 "peacekeepers" is about as unRussian as them smuggling bluejeans and Beatles albums. The Kremlin will throw 40,000 soldiers into a wood chipper to prove a point. The Reds never have, never will, go to war over losing 7 soldiers. Putin's trying to grab the Oil, he could care less about Ossetians. Just like the Arabs could give two f**ks about Palestinians. They are just a pawn.

Well, now, that was really intelligent and added to the theard.

You do realize this thread is about the fighting in Georgia, don't you?

I don't think your rant had much to do with it.

I read mention of 1000 US troops in Georgia since tuesday on a training exercise. Have they been withdrawn? Any news of them at all? Would they be the catalyst to draw the west into this conflict?
