As long as it is smaller than yourself ("nothing bigger than yourself" in the OP)...

But if you had that, you would only need the coordinates to the Planet and not a lift...and you should be taking over the Universe if you got one of those anyways.

Send me a picture of that thing - maybe the more hardcore skeptics here can let us know if they have seen that particular model, and whether or not you are getting the best bang for your buck....

It's technically smaller than me...

A guitar. I'd be afraid that guitars might not exist on another planet, I'd bring it with me and have an alien learn to create them, so they're in buying abundance, then in 5 years if it's not mission accomplished... back I go!

A laptop, filled with digital books.

My way of fitting an entire library. Almost cheating.

Realistically the only thing I could consider grabbing to go to another planet would be a bugout bag, although that's really more than one item. If i had to take one it would probably have to be a swiss army knife or something like that.

I would bring genetic samples of animals from earth in the hope that I could be enhanced.

Damn this is a hard one...
oh oh i know. I would take a small case filled with dried seeds of most of the flora of earth. The aliens may be advanced may be able to provide us with food but there is no other remedy or substitute then growing your own forest or patch of flora.

I would prolly take along with me ipod..... but without a way to recharge it there's not much use. Other then that I reckon I'd take paper and pen/pencil just so I could still draw and make art while I'm away.
