My notebook, i can't live without internet

Honestly, I'd bring a pornographic magazine. I couldn't bring DVD's, VHS tapes or data CD's because I'd have nothing to view them with, so I'd have to go old school. Since I'd be going the rest of my life without having contact with or even seeing another woman, I'd have to have some method of relieving those natural urges. If I can't do that in any way, it's going to be a very, very long life, and I'll probably be jumpy and edgy the whole time.

As for all you guys saying laptops, DVD players and other portable electronics, do you really think the aliens are going to have 120V grounded AC outlets to use them with? And what good is a DVD player without a TV? Earth electronics would be completely useless on another planet. The only other option is to bring a battery, and in that case, it looks like you'll only get a few hours out of it.

That's easy, I'd take a packet of seeds so I could grow my own. HA HA

I'm going with the crew members who bring the TP and Vodka.

That is a really interesting answer, and it made me re-think mine...don't want to come off as being fatalistic, but you are right, what if things just don't turn out right.

Traveling to another planet would be a once in a life opportunity and the experience would be life changing, but being prepared for the worst possible outcome seems wise as well...

Smart.

I would take a photograph of my family.

Okay, so I'm sentimental. Stuff doesn't do it for me. I'd like to have my family close to me, even if it's only as a bit of paper.

I would bring an extra large military backpack or dufflebag. In that I would bring survival supplies.. knife.. 357 revolver with several boxes of ammo, lots of c-rations and a large container of water. It would allow me to survive for awhile if things hit the fan. If the planet had no safe water to drink, no edible wildlife or plants.. Well iv got my revolver to end it rather than dying of starvation. (Though if the ship crashed or something.. this may sound incredibly savage to some of you..I would eat any of the dead passengers to survive, You could survive for awhile on one corpse, if there were many you might just have enough food to last until rescue if you dehydrated the meat.) Disgusting i know but hey ill do whatever it takes to survive, unless all reasonable hope is lost.

hmm, and If I couldn't take a filled bag.. id probably just bring a leatherman multi-tool.

Good thread.

I'm sure your laptop would be quickly forgotten when you realise that their version of movies and games are slightly more advanced

I don't think anything I could possibly imagine taking would be worth anything as their tehcnology would be (if you are being taken by aliens that is, and not just going to another planet with nothing on it) much much more interesting. Except for a pet, which I wouldn't take anyway.

I'd take a grenade, for myself and the aliens if things don't go according to plan.

Rav....the premise was what ONE thing would you take!!

Your intent is obvious....you are a throw-back, and would never be invitied in the first place.

The point of evolution is to advance....but, a barely naked monkey using weapons....well, guess that's the problem.....because that's how others would see us, if they were watching.

How sad.......

The only thing in the op suggesting we would be going to an inhabited planet is the 'they have all the energy you need thing which doesn't mean its aliens.. other humans could have gone ahead and setup power plants. Other than that I assume it would be an uninhabited earth like planet. in which case you would be a fool not to bring any survival supplies and instead decide to take something trivial like an ipod or a cool hat.

and I said if i absolutely could not take my pack I would bring a leatherman tool. I guess you would rather not have something and hope you don't need it later than have it and not need it knowing there is the possibility of needing it later. We would see who would survive longer if something happened, the guy who brought a leatherman or the guy who brought a picture of mom. If it was an alien planet with cities and such, I would simply put my pack away in my room and go about my regular business. oh well, two different views two different people, Neither is really correct or incorrect. I understand your view, hopefully you can understand mine.

I bought my 1st Leatherman in Wurzburg Germany (663 Ordinance) and my 2nd at Ft. Campbell, KY (3rd of the 101st - Aviation); I even bought my Father one for the Holiday Season...he loved it.

I cannot think of a better all in 1 Tool...that thing came through with the goods so many times.

Sorry....the 'Star Trek' transporter has a limited range.

I think it's about 300,000 km

Of course, I'm not a 'Trekker'.....

I'd still just take my mind....that's one thing that I can count on......

first choice was camcorder but as soon as i posted it i would be ragged to death. so i would take a empty needle to extract some alien dna to bring back and clone it. not sure if they have hair or well blood for that matter, but one way to find out!
