U.S sent a convoy into Georgia

Are you sure that's not Envoy(as in Diplomatic core)? Convoy would indicate military and I just don't think the U.S. is gonna leap into this with two feet right off the bat.

Obs out

All on fox news man...

Are you watching Fox or on the site? I can't find it on the site and can't watch cause I'm at work.
Not making accusations but I just can't find the info on the internets

And the difference between an Envoy and a convoy is enormous!

Here is an interpretation of events from someone who has been following this conflict for quite some time. I will make it very brief.

There is basically an area between Russia and Georgia that these 2 countries have agreed to disagree on. This region is called Ossetia. I don't know how to really describe it but it's kind of like a separatist movement towards Russia from Georgia. Around 90% of the population in this area has Russian citizenship and most likely pro-Russian.

Conflict has ensued because Georgia in the last couple days has began invading this region to reclaim it as its own. Since Russia has the predominant support of the region and has interests here they are supporting this breakaway region's pushback of Georgian forces. This video that was posted earlier in this thread (www.liveleak.com...) is not showing a fight between Russian and Georgian forces in reality. This is fighting between peacekeeping forces in the region and Georgian forces. Russia is simply moving to support the peacekeeping forces already in place.

Lots of propaganda is being thrown around on both sides:
-Genocide by Georgian forces
-Russia attacking Georgia territory with aircraft
-Russian planes being shot down

PLEASE don't pay attention to the propaganda.

What do I think is happening? At most I think Russia may be hitting Georgian reinforcements to the main areas of conflict and sending support troops/tanks to aid the breakaway region.

Who is at fault? In all reality it kind of points to Georgia for stirring the pot. This region has seen some conflict as of late but this major push by Georgian forces into a predominately pro-Russian area is a bold move.

What do I think will come of this? Nothing long lasting. I think both sides will agree to a ceasefire and things will continue as they have been in the last couple of years.

MOSCOW (Reuters) - A Minister in the Georgian breakaway region of South Ossetia said more than a thousand people had died in overnight shelling by Georgian forces of their capital Tskhinvali, RIA news agency reported.

"According to our information, as a result of the night-time shelling of Tskhinvali, there has been a large number of victims ... the number of fatalities is more than a thousand," the South Ossetian Nationalities Minister, Teimuraz Kasaev, told the news agency by telephone.

Thats allot of people! I don't like the way this is unfolding.I'm still waiting on Bush to make a statement.

I hope you're right. But anytime bullets start flying and the conflict involves at least one of the major powers, there's a chance of an escalation. In this particular case, Russia is invading a would-be Nato member, one that even has a small US military presence.

Right now, I'd say that the chances are relatively low, but certainly not zero.

So, counter to some anti-us posters-member and mod, lets look at what's really going on.

Part of Georgia wants to breakaway.

It just so happens to be a VERY mineral rich region.

Georgia won't allow this and is using its military to prevent this.

Russia, is sticking its nose in another countries "INTERNAL" business-I wonder if they would care if the region did not have oil/mineral resources.

Russia has sent planes that have bombed Georgia proper- a reported 4 have been shot down.

Side note, Georgia has asked to become part of NATO-they are not being forced.

Now some anti=American ignorant people want to blame the US for what Georgian separatists/and Russians are doing.

Last point, some people find the Russian interference ok or good.

What if we were to replace Russia with US, then the actions would be evil, empire.

Now, if it is ok for Russia to send planes/troops and tanks into the area, does that make it ok to have NATO (remember NATO 26 countries, not just the US) send troops/tanks and planes to defend Georgia from the Russian attack???

NATO countries-NATO Countries Could Tutor have been right??????

Anyway, back on topic.

Like I've said on several other threads. While the world focuses on their mania about Bush becoming a dictator and the "imperial" U.S., Putin actually has become a dictator and russia is very much the same brutal regime that the former soviet onion was.

According to them FOUR planes have been shot down.

And since Georgia is the third largest contributor of coalition forces in Iraq... Me thinks the U.S. is now in a very awkward position... Obligated to help but unwilling to take one for the team.

This is very very bad.

Titor spoke about it.... The general break down of the world I mean not this event specifically. Still, if things do escalate ... one doesn't need much imagination to figure out what happens next.

Sorry if this Guardian video has already been shown but it basically states that war has already begun (according to the reporter).

In the video, the reporter states that russian jets have bombed an airport near Tiblisi and tanks are moving into position.

''The EU and NATO are flapping'' - what else did we expect from those monkeys!!

The fire is heavy according to the video - no turning back now it does seem. Good luck Georgia - you're going to need it!

Guardian video and report

P.s. It's a Guardian report and video so I don't think it will link via Youtube or Google.

I'm not sure why you are dragging the Shrub into this, but if memory serves me well, he did invade Iraq w/o ever declaring a formal war, under shakey pretexts which turned out to be a pile of lies.

In a letter addressed to his "fellow citizens" Friday, Saakashvili said he had mobilized tens of thousands of reserve officers and that the mobilization continued.
tens of thousands! Not good.

The Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) said it was sending an envoy to the region immediately
I hope they can do something to stop the bloodshed..

Just catching up but right now on the BBC news it says that Russia has NOT confirmed that it has used any of it's airforce yet and the Pentagon have said that they have NOT been asked for help by Georgia

A Russia MIG-29 shot down an unarmed Georgian UAV back in April. The video is amazing and shows Russian aggression even at that time. Russia is inserting it's influence over a former territory and it's clear to me now that they be using this latest conflict to reclaim some of that land.

BBC article on the incident

Even when Russia poisons and assasinates leaders that don't fall in line with their way of thinking, somehow some idots on here will still blame the USA.
