On October 13, 2008, The Daily Record (Glasgow) announced that bookmakers in Scotland, United Kingdom had suspended betting on whether an extraterrestrial spacecraft would appear or not. Rupert Adams of William Hill, commenting on giving one bettor 1000-to-one odds, was quoted as saying, "This is the first time an internet phenomenon has affected our business," remarking "We now have seven-figure liabilities if the ship does appear. We have decided to duck any more big bets until the 14th has passed, hopefully without incident."
It has been estimated that bookmakers will have a payout of £1million if an extraterrestrial spacecraft appears as predicted.
No space craft has arrived and her personal blog has been removed from public access.

What scares me about this is the fact that so many people either believed it or wanted to believe it. Why does this scare me? For the simple fact that it proves how gullible and desperate for hope so many people are. I hope that people that seriously believed this take this as a lesson learned and realize that a lot of times, they just want you're money.
