good friends, has'nt he gone to more spiritual type music?

ColoradoJens-- That should be awesome. I think he is on tour with The Dukes. The live album I have of Steve and The Dukes ("Shut Up and Die Like An
Aviator") is one of my favorite cds. I saw Steve solo at Bonnaroo a couple years ago, but I would love to see him with the band.
Rustami-- Yeah, Steve is one of those artists that is constantly evolving. I haven't yet heard his latest album, "I'll Never Get Out of This World
Alive", which I believe that song you posted is off, but I am certainly a big fan of the Hank Williams song of the same name so it must be good.
And I am an even bigger fan of Earle's mentor, Townes Van Zandt. The second video here is Steve covering one of my favorite Townes songs.

I have his first album with the Dukes...the guy is great! Did you check out that Trey Anastasio video? Once it get's going, very toe tapping.
Finally, you mentioned Townes. I am repeating myself here but -
Yeah, haha, I know Trey. I have seen Trey solo at least 30 times, and Phish over 200. I used to follow Trey & co. around the country when I was
younger. Although that video was the first time I listened to Trey solo in a long while. I don't really listen to Phish much either anymore
(listened to nothing but them for 2+years a decade ago), but I do go see them since it's more of a live ritual/religious type experience for me. I
only see them sober now though, which is the exact opposite of my former life's goal.
As for the Townes, I wish I could star you more than once. Both songs are great of course, but "To Live Is To Fly" is one of my all-time favorite
songs and is very close to my heart. A really great choice.
Here is a link to a thread I made about great artists that were doomed by a label.
You all should check it out, there are some damn fine tunes over there, as well as an opportunity to support your favorite bands that never got their
due.
That was a pretty good tune. I have never heard of the guy before, so I thank you for that...his wikipedia page profile says that
his main influences include The Rolling Stones, Ryan Adams, Nick Drake, Bob Dylan,
and Elliot Smith, so he must be a man after my own heart. Thanks for sharing.
