That part about the scientist being very excited is another thing that makes me wonder if it was an error somewhere, because of the three sentances she spoke about the report one of them was how excited the scientists were about this find.

I got rather excited at the prospect of the mainstream media releasing details of an artificial structure or vehicle on the surface of Mars... then read that it was nothing to do with it.

I suppose I shall go back to hoping.

Ok to those who saw that I think I know whats up. the commercial just came back on and what she said was very missleading. they say how a mars ship found something that has scientist very excited. Anyways the way she says it does sound like what I originally reported except its a matter of where you put the comma. She says it fast so it comes out like an audio optical illusion of sorts where half the people would see one thing and half would see the other. I now would like to say I am truely sorry for wasting peoples time with this one. I am someone who is really interested in finding the truth of the things we talk about here so when I saw the report I thought it would be good to pass on. I never thought it would become as big of a deal as it did but I can admit I was wrong and I am sorry.
I now bow my head in shame.

No reason to be in shame, Everyone makes mistakes. And I know how fox likes to spin things. A lot of people may have had this happen to them from time to time. Thought they heard something then it turned out to not be the case. Anyways, Welcome to A.T.S and hope to see some good post's from you in the future

I totally agree.

there is no reason to be ashamed by questioning the media.

Good grief I work in the media, and I question it everyday. Granted I am in a position to follow up on those questions more than the average person, there is no reason you should feel bad about making a post.

We live and we learn, else whats the point?

Aaaah! I got all excited for nada. It's cool OP. These things happen to the best of us. I just can't believe someone actually got me excited to see FOX news.

Yes its all good as long as your intent was one of truth.

Only read the 1st page and then jumped back here to see how it is going and I see now mystery solved. Good catchy thread title though.

Fox tends to lie and spin, I challenge you Scott. Give me one good example where Fox News has lied, not mistake, an out and out right lie? If you cant then I would have to say Scott is the liar and spinner. But dont worry Scott, fox news is number 1 and if they lie and spin then maybe you can be number one.

No upcoming local FOX news commercials are ever live.

They are shot hours in advance so your local station can get them in the system to be cut and ready for air.

*edit* haha, I forgot to mention that I direct the morning news at my local FOX affiliate.

If there is breaking news we do a live cutin giving updates and teasing the nightly local news. If there is no breaking news we will do it like 20 minutes before it starts airing and it airs randomly throughout commercial breaks from 8:20 in the morning to like 3 or 4 I think, not positive, they might air longer.

I'm not sure if you would consider it a commercial though, but I we have made lots of mistakes on these before, a few times we have even aired cutins from other days because Master Control got the wrong tape. There is definately a chance for unnoticed mistakes to slip through though, by the time we are doing the cutins it's been 3 hours of nonstop shows so everyone is burned out and fiending to get them out of the way.

We don't do any post production though, we shoot it as if it was live and just tape it, no editing.

If a reporter or anchor accidentally said a ship on mars instead of water though, the director would most likely stop them and start all over again, not sure how something like that would go unnoticed but it's definately possible.

Yeah i wasn't considering cut-ins, thats a different animal all-together.

every local station handles their situations differently, except when it comes to actual "live" events, then its almost cookie-cutter across the board.

I see you are a fellow station employee, welcome.

Why has every other thread mention something about fox news spinning, I have watched Fox cable news forever and cannot remember one thing they lied about. I feel like Im watching some youtube spot with Rosie Odonnell, or reading the editorials out of the New York Times. Wait I have seen spinning on Fox News, I think his name was Alan Combs...see how ridiculous I sound. I wish ppl could leave politics out of there post and just talk about the thread, thank you guys for leaving your partisian views out, see someone may agree with you but as soon as they see your partisan rant they may just tune you out, so its to your benifit.

Thanks, I'm pretty new to the whole industry. I've only been working there for about a year and a half and I've gone from being a studio camera op to directing an hour of news.

As you can tell our station is hurting so bad they have part timers directing, haha.

Do you work at Fox News Channel or a local station?

I saw and head the exact same thing on the commercial today. It did sound like she said "ship found on mars".

media is all spun thats how they drum up revenue headlins sell news and are often spun very misleading not just fox but all media even some less news oriented things this pitching a show they play it up dress up the truth as i like to put it headlines are about marketing and their aim is to get u to listen way to follow through OP and let us know whats up
alot of posters would have not said anything if they had found themselves to be wrong

So half of this people that you say were likely hitting the hippie lettuce?

Lesson learned: Don't watch TV while you are eating some magic mushrooms.

Nope no drugs involved. All I ment by that statement is that the way it was said it could have easily been misconstrew and interpreted the way I did. It was a sort of play on words I guess you could say. I just saw the report it was the ice, interesting little 30 second report. A question to anyone who saw it which mars pic was that at the end of the report that looked like it could be a structure when they were talking about possible life on mars? I thought I had seen all those pics here on ats but I didn't recognize that one.

But on a side note yeah I wouldn't be surpirsed if a good half of the people were hitting the hippie lettuce as you put it. But then again I haven't seen an actual official percentage on that so I can't be sure.

A fine example of why people should be totally sure of what they've seen or heard before posting sensationalist threads. Perhaps the Op was mistaken but I hope he has learned a valuable lesson from the experience.

I followed this thread without posting as it was dubious. Now I learn my suspicions of the Ops misunderstanding were true... And true waste of my time!
Though I forgive him, I will be hesitant to click on any of his threads, let alone contribute in the future. That's life huh!
