Why was chat just closed??? I was just there, and I didn't notice any T & C violations, but the chat window now says that it's closed due to excessive abuse...

I have a few theories, none of which I'll put here because I know the same people frequent the forums and that would just make matters worse. At this point I won't blame the staff if they leave it closed, people just couldn't leave well enough alone and had to act a fool.

We've had a series of complaints from members that chat had become a vulgar and childish place. After a review of the logs, I can't say I disagree.

The "spirit" of the Terms and Conditions were being trampled upon rather regularly.

Chat abuse and I happened to have been in the room and not one person noticed, they just kept on with their poor behavior

Not to be a goody 2 shoes here (much lol) but although I was logged in I was looking at other stuff at the time... Had I noticed things going to far I think I would usually say something, last I saw people were talking about tattoos and the branding and scaring body mods... Didn't see anything to bad in that.

Ho hum, hope it all blows over and chat is back again soon, it's a nice way to get to know members.

I don't mean this in a personal nature but couldn't you have said something to the effect of "hey, you guys need to tone it down" or something along those lines, elevatedone is prone to direct quotes of the T & C in chat when people get out of line while hes in there and it seems to work well, and when it doesn't he gives the trouble causers the boot post-haste without further warning. Either way its a little late for it now, shame to see its come to this yet again.

there was some talk about drinking etc, but people were having a good time, there was 1 person however that wasnt, and apparently thats all that matters.........

As long as 1 person isnt happy then the rest of us have to pay the price for it.........this site is going down hill.......andill probably get banned for saying that......

But ive been going into the chat and for the most part its been great, it seems to me the logical thing to do would to be to ban the person causing the issues and leave everyone else to enjoy themselves..........but apparently thats not acceptable anymore on ATS

Instead of having to close chat down, and I wasn't there BTW, a mod should have the option of booting the offenders out of the room so that everyone doesn't get punished.

Assumptions are never the logical thing.

This is not a new issue, nor is it isolated to one person "not being happy."

There have been several occasions in the past where the tonality of chat got out of hand, and the spirit of the terms and conditions where being ignored by a select few at first, then a broader group as our apparent inaction was taken to be interpreted as tolerance.

In the past, when this happened in chat, the problems often spilled over into posts on ATS... which is the primary reason we do not allow a more lax interpretation of the terms and conditions while using chat.

Chat will return, but the minimum required post-count for entry will be increased.

Most of the time i am in there (and i am there a lot), there is a mod present.
So the T&C reason seems a bit strange to me, but then again i am not always there.

I do want to point out that the ATS darkcorner is for serious topics and discussions and that ATS pub is for goofing off, within T&C ofcourse. That does not seem to be common knowledge, there would be a lot less frustration if it was.

Im aware that there have been issues before, from what I hear..........

Can we elaborate more on what caused the closure, or was it compounded by repetativeness of the offenses over multiple days rather than an isolated incident?

I have to be honest. I've contributed to some of the vulgarity in the chat room. Things do seem to have changed as far as the content in there is concerned. I'm not sure which straw has broken the camels back this time, but i'm surprised this didn't come sooner.

I guess I (I really can't speak for others) forget sometimes, that not everyone is over 18 in there. Regardless, the age is irrelevant. Some content is just not appropriate for any age.

Sincere apologies to those that do respect the T&C and are inconvenienced because of the people who do not.

Yup and some groups of people even use the same user names on skype. It's a conspiracy!
