I don't know if everyone is aware of General Taguba:

The General’s Report

Taguba knew his report would make him unpopular: “If I lie, I lose. And, if I tell the truth, I lose.”

How Antonio Taguba, who investigated the Abu Ghraib scandal, became one of its casualties.

Wikipedia

If you can read his whole story, most likely you will have an idea on who are those really responsible for this. It goes up to the highest person in charge. The men behind the scenes.

Before I start I want you all to know that I in NO WAY condone the way these detainees were treated, It's deplorable and Inhumane. That being said. What did you really expect to happen?... These are not corrections officers. They are soldiers that were put on a detail. I was in the Marine Corps and you are taught to dehumanize the enemy because It is hard to kill someone once you think about the fact that he is a human just like you with a family wife and maybe kids with hopes and dreams. These Soldiers were set up for failure from the start. Brainwashing + Stress plus pressure from higher ups combined with Zero training and a lack of morals and a mob mentality equal the abboration that is Abu Gharib. Look at those pictures, look at their eyes... THAT ladies and gentlemen is EVIL...THose soldiers were'nt BORN like that, the Government MADE them that way, they WANT them like that...They were pawns to do the dirty work that was needed and now that pics leaked and the world knows what is going on then they are disposible and serving time in levenworth. It's sad that this had to happen but maybe we need exposure and graphic pictures so that the sheeple wake up and cannot deny that this happens.

I also need to say this however. Most of the Soldiers in our all volunteer Military are brave, decent people serving a country they love which has given us opportunities beyond our wildest dreams. No doubt we will experience jealousy (hate) from some.

So were the men of the Wehrmacht in nazi Germany. They were misinformed, lied to and misled.

That does not make them any less dangerous or wrong.

I will agree prisoners worldwide are probably largely abused and we should look at the worlds prisons in a whole and not just Iraq. But this is just nonsense, these people aren't living up to any standard that they enlisted for; the american army seems to get more and more facist by the day from the acts we see. An it is sad because not all the soldiers in Iraq are doing this sort of behavior and we'll never hear about the men and woman who spoke out about it. We'll only see the men and woman who are smiling next to decomposing bodies and beaten men: I wish I could have 5 minutes alone with any of the soldiers pictured and teach them the true meaning of the eye for an eye complex. Sorry that rant is exactly what probably got these soldiers into this situation in the first place. I'm just becoming more and more ashamed to call myself American.

Why does everyone focus on this prison so much? I'm sure that we have American citizens in prison for much less crimes that get treated much more harshly than this. Aren't we at war with these people?
I guess it's just the liberal mindset of this country now. We can murder unborn children but we can't kill murderers or torture terrorists for information that may save innocent lives. Give me a break people.

Well said

You all should review the video of Mr.Perlmans beheading for the sake of fair and balanced reporting.

or watch agent provocateurs behead nick berg for super balance.

or, just search for pictures and videos of limbless kids crying in pain on hospital beds in hospitals where there is no painkiller in countries where there are no prosthetics(or electricity or water, 'cause it's all bombed to hallelujah).

you REALLY want 'justice'? count the pennies, and the dollars take care of themselves.

Totally disgusting. This is what the war in Iraq has made of the West. This is demonic and inhuman.

This is being done in the name of Americans and democracy.

Demonic and inhuman: absolutely. But consider how many people are easily manipulated into becoming inhumane creatures? Too many to count.

We live in an age where the mental fortitude and moral foundation of the average citizen is all but extinguished. These are the people who commit atrocities, and the people who argue for the existence of detainment camps etc. "They're only hurting terrorists. Only insurgents. They're all guilty."

Unfortunately, America is split in half for this reason. (I actually think it is more a 1/4 split... but the media doesn't want us to know that the majority of us are good.) The majority of us are sane individuals who would never put ourselves in a position to brutalize other people etc... we know the war is BS and we know that the people committing atrocities in our name are worthless individuals. Unforunately, the other 1/4 of our population are the worthless individuals. They are either incapable of using sound moral judgement concerning their own country, government etc. or they are so corrupted that they actually encourage and endorse the mania of our demonic government, our highjacked military etc.

As long as the 1/4 continues to be painted as the average American, the rest of us don't have a chance at convincing the world that we are not all evil etc. It's too late. We need to seperate our identity entirely from this country and our military at this point. We need to disown our leaders and disown our government. But there's no peaceful way to do that. And the 1/4 would be more than willing to kill us for being 'traitors'.

seems about right

what potential their is for freakin chaos in this country and the world

should the economy go down, the riots and violence will make people want to get "chipped" for safety.

What a freakin world, i just can't wait till bush gets the F#(k out

i am hopeful obama could get in, and i 'm taking the bait that i can at least believe that he will give a more truth ful account of the # were in for

I saw it and not plausible according to their speculation based on a post-mortem death and other "evidence".

This is pushing a convoluted double psy-op action by terror itself.

"Evil eats itself"......

Sad but so true.

I don't know what the HECK humanity is going to do. We're at the mercy of those pulling the strings and I'm pretty disgusted at how we're all being used/ABUSED.

THIS IS NOT AMERICA.

This is the most disgusting, vile, inhuman thing I've ever witnessed. If America is responsible, REAL PATRIOTS- unconditional believers in life, liberty, happiness and TRUTH, need to spread this so we can END IT and remove those responsible.

I AM TRULY SAD FOR AMERICA.

In fact, based on the official report, we have not seen the worst of it:

I learned from Taguba that the first wave of materials included descriptions of the sexual humiliation of a father with his son, who were both detainees. Several of these images, including one of an Iraqi woman detainee baring her breasts, have since surfaced; others have not. (Taguba’s report noted that photographs and videos were being held by the C.I.D. because of ongoing criminal investigations and their “extremely sensitive nature.”) Taguba said that he saw “a video of a male American soldier in uniform sodomizing a female detainee.” The video was not made public in any of the subsequent court proceedings, nor has there been any public government mention of it. Such images would have added an even more inflammatory element to the outcry over Abu Ghraib. “It’s bad enough that there were photographs of Arab men wearing women’s panties,” Taguba said.

Taguba decided to keep the photographs from most of the interrogators and researchers on his staff of twenty-three officers. “I didn’t want them to prejudge the soldiers they were investigating, so I put the photos in a safe,” he told me. “Anyone who wanted to see them had to have a need-to-know and go through me.” His decision to keep the staff in the background was also intended to insure that none of them suffered damage to his or her career because of involvement in the inquiry. “I knew it was going to be very sensitive because of the gravity of what was in front of us,” he said.

Well if that is the kind of rationale you want to use to justify the premise of your logic, then HEY!! Let’s just start televising us cutting their heads off!

they want us dead at any cost and don't fool yourself on that one....

If that is true,, then I guess we should just nuke the whole damn lot of them eh? Then we won't have to be looking over our proverbial shoulders sleeping with one eye open.

a world without Christians or infidel's is what their mission statement is and has always been since the beginning of their religion my friend.....

Yeah,, that's the same agenda many Atheists’ have for Christianity too, does that mean we should round them all up and torture them too?
Many of them have the attitude that Christians are alive merely because it is illegal to kill them, otherwise who knows what would happen.

Keep in mind WE INVADED THEM

They didn't invade us

Does it not occur to you, they have every reason to say what YOU, are saying? That all Christians must want Muslims dead? After reading your post,, I keep hearing they want us all dead.

I can say unequivocally that's a lie and have spent a lot of time in Israel, Turkey, Iran, Iraq and Egypt. Iranians were some of the most gracious and considerate people I had met back then. In fact,, they seemed to love America.

Then things began to change,, and I am pretty sure the change in attitude about what they think is a Christian Nation was not without provocation.

What you seem to be missing in this whole argument and I refer to some of the things newworldover alluded to, is this;

To treat human being's to abuses that would be a felony doing to domestic dogs in some states; one has to bring themselves within smelling distance of sociopathic psychosis. This indoctrination doesn't come from looking down the barrel of an enemy's gun day in and day out, albeit it works to help rationalize it,,

it isn't what makes a person heartless.

It takes indoctrination and the acceptance of data much like the information you keep trying to spoon feed the rest of us because it is what they fed you and you believe it because you have seen it.

What you have seen isn't what you think causes it however it is for those engaged in it on both sides.

I know what it takes to "de-humanize" people to the rank of animal. We did it with the American Indian and called them "Savages" while the motivation for us was the Calif Gold rush. We came damn close to a complete genocide of an entire people for greed behind the guise of killing them because they wanted to kill all of us.

We did it again kidnapping entire tribes of blacks from Africa treating them "Human Beings" as animals and worse then the family dog.

What concerns us as a people is we have to accept people who are quite comfortable treating human beings this way (and again for "greed") . back into OUR society and think they will be compassionate to humans again.

I know War is ugly and am a 6 year Vietnam era veteran but their is a fine line between sociopathic and psychopathic states of mental health.

One would and should see those pictures as a red flag and not just for the human rights of the prisoners, but to get those soldiers OUT of their for the sake of their own mental health.

It is one thing to be ordered to to something as debased as that is,,

It is quite another to do it and,,

ENJOY IT

- Con

This is how I figure: this whole prison abuse thing is less about the abuse and more about the unfounded and illegal occupation upon which it was (and is probably still is ) carried out. WMDs in Iraq were a lie, and an estimated 100,000 civilians and many American soldiers have died as a result. That is the issue that you should be focussing on. I would turn away from hate and fear my friend, they will do you no good in your fabled afterlife in heaven--also known as the multi-verse where your past deeds inhabit you.

[edit on 28-2-2008 by Silenceisall]

But don't forget this "illegal occupation" was agreed upon unananymously by our own government. Did we honestly expect to assault Iraq and expect to leave in a couple months? That is also arrogant.

We have done little else in Iraq than waste ridiculous sums of money, get lots of our own servicemen killed ( I am a disabled veteran myself), occupy the nation to prevent a civil war that is inevitable, and prolong the real war on terror which is Al Qaeda and extremist groups like Al Qaeda who want to kill Americans by the truckload and have begun to regroup.

The war on terror will never be over, regardless of whether we acheive victory in Iraq or not, therefore we will always be in danger. Americans must be willing to allow our intelligence agencies to take measures which could quite possibly prevent another terrorist attack on american soil and (god forbid) a nuclear terrorist event in our country. I think most people would agree. The problem is that this is the same old Bush administration / government we do not trust. Therefore we, as citizens, question the judgement of our intelligence agencies and military as we shouldn't have to.
