You're on.

I'll try to get it and post the results on photobucket as soon as it gets dark here in the UK. Thats about 4 hours time or so.

I'm definitely gonna do it so watch this space - can't pomise what I'll get tho - and no accusations of hoaxing. LOL

Do you know where that dial is? it faces the front gear stick, there is no way it can reflect onto the windscreen, the only dial on a mini that can reflect on the windscreen is the one above the stearing wheel, rev counter, which looks nothing like this. But even if this were a reflection of the speed dial wheres the rev dial? which is above this or sometimes next to it?

I too have a mini so will try and get a reflection of the speed dial in the windscreen too, I dont think it can be done though... but I stand to be corrected as my mini is 3 years old and the new ones could be very different.

IMHO, we should assest in what car ACTUALLY she was...
Now the one of the Mini was just an example, but i'd guess that once we'll know what car she was on, we **maybe** could be able to rule out the speedmeter/other accessories option: NOT before, IMHO.

Thanks for the responses to my questions guys.

BUT...I'm still not entirely convinced this is a reflection of the speedometer Having said that, I also don't think this is a real UFO either. If the speedometer was reflected in the windshield like that, wouldn't that be totally distracting to the driver? I guess I'll wait for more_seratonin_pls to take some pictures for us tonight to try to recreate it.

For now I'll sit on the fence and enjoy the fact that there are some extremely smart people on this forum that can figure this out!

I can't help but laugh at the thought that this could very well be a speedometer reflection and us "common folk" debunked it within a few minutes while the "expert UFOlogists" sit scratching their heads.

I think the worst part wasn't only that they tried to pull this off at all... but they made sure to mention that the person who took the photos was an academic!?
What the hell does that matter to the article?
It's like they are trying to make it more true because some girl who goes / went to Uni took this crap tourist photo.

'IF' the dial IS reflecting on the windscreen it would depend on exactly where the camera is held, such as right up against the windscreen and towards the right, (accross the windscreen at an angle) etc.

All angles will obviously produce a slightly different outcome.

I am not saying that this is 100% a mini dash, I have never been in a mini (I am not keen on small cars) it could be any dash, it could be a deliberate hoax taken through the screen of a couriers motorcycle as most of those only have one dial.

I am going to wait patiently for more_serotonin_pls's results on his reconstruction photo's tonight to make my mind up 100%

Good luck with the shots later more_serotonin_pls try a few different angles too; to account for every possibility,
in your search for truth!

Absolutely!

My imediate thought as soon as I looked at the photo (within a second) was a mini dashboard reflection, I dont know why, as I said I have never been inside one but I have seen one in passing, it could be any dash realy although you have to admit that the twin edge design of the mini speedometer is consistant with the outline of the object photographed.

Michelle129 The reflection on the windscreen is only distracting when you become aware of it, it is visible in most cars but most people only become concious of it when there are no street lights or lit buildings around, I live in the countryside and there is very little light around so I am nearly always aware of it at night in most cars I have been in, including when I myself am driving at night, although I am an extremely visual person.

Good luck with the photography II HAL II and more_serotonin_pls lets put this to bed one way or the other.

Thanks... I will try every angle possible in the passenger seat, I will even lay on the floor looking up lol, however looking at the new mini, it's speed dial is slightly different so I'm starting to doubt myself... it could be the mini dial after all... just not from my version.

However I still cant imagine a speed dial that faces the driver reflecting onto the windscreen like that?? with no other dial reflections.

Be back in 4 to 5 hours with pics.

Frankly, i've been impressed by the resembleance:

my guess is that it's a reflection coming from a source located inside, and the fact that other optionals aren't visible means nothing, since we're talking about a surface that acts like a concave mirror, that has an inclination and besides the position and the orientation of the phone are unknown due to lack of visual so anything is possible and nothing can be ruled out so quickly. Of course, so far the theory of the dashboard component reflection is the most convincing one: not conclusive but compelling, coherent, likely, etcetera

Best wishes to II HAL II for his empirical experiment, and thanks to Enceladus for sharing this one (star and flag), whatever it will turn to be

I think it's pretty obviously a reflection of an overhead light in the window. This is often the case in the "we didn't see anything at the time" cases.

I'd put it down as high probability, zero strangeness.

Internos -
I understand what you're saying but it's worth a go isn't it? Plus I have driven a LOT of cars and the mini speedo is pretty unique. It's all about being inquisitive isn't it really?

Who knows - we may figure something out and be able to say - hey - this is a clear misinterpretation and we spotted and figured it out.

Isn't that what we're here for? To get as close to the truth as we can?

Anyway, just waiting for it to get dark.

Might as well have a beer while I wait. :-)

Catch you later folks.

ooh, nice picture they got there. It blends right in with all the lit objects.

I don't see any reference to them being in a mini ?

The images - taken around 3.50am - were taken eight minutes apart as Karolina and two pals drove through Central London.

The first thing I thought was they were in a London Black Cab. Above each door in one of those things is a large oval shaped courtesy light. Tried a GIS, but can't find a pic to show what I mean. That makes more sense to me than a dashboard speedometer reflecting off the windscreen. Aren't dashboards designed NOT to reflect like that ?

Nicely done, Internos

Plus, we can now see the parts of the dial in the original, too.

A second thought on the speedo.. it may not have been taken through the windscreen. It could have been taken from the rear passenger seat through the drivers window, from the passengers seat across the driver or from the nearside rear passenger seat across the driver through the drivers side window. There are many angles that these photo's could have been taken from. Reflections would be different from all of these vantage points.

There are some UFO REPORTS online which specifically state that the people observing or being observed are unaware that they are not alone, until it is documented on film. The assumption being that the photography processing was more finely tuned than the naked eye....GO FIGURE!

so what inside their car would give THAT type of reflection? Maybe the ufo was inside the car with them...
