Sorry if somebody already posted this, but I have been missing in action for a couple of days:

From CNN:

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The U.S. Navy likely will make its first attempt to shoot down a faulty spy satellite Wednesday night.

The U.S. government issued a formal notice warning ships and planes to stay clear of a large area of the Pacific Ocean west of Hawaii.

The notice says the two- and-a-half hour window begins 2:30 a.m. Thursday Greenwich Mean Time, which is 9:30 p.m. Wednesday on the East Coast, and 4:30 p.m. Wednesday in Hawaii.

The timing is also after the U.S. space shuttle Atlantis is scheduled to be safely on the ground.

Pentagon officials caution that the notice reflects the first opportunity to take a shot at the satellite, but it's possible the attempt could be delayed until later.

"We have to make the notification, but it's possible the conditions won't be ideal, or that everything won't be ready," said a Pentagon official who asked not to be identified.

Pentagon officials says if the first attempt to hit the satellite fails, there may be time for a second attempt, but that would only come after an assessment that would be hours or even days after the first attempt.

Because the 5,000-pound satellite malfunctioned immediately after launch in December 2006, it has a full tank of fuel. It would likely survive re-entry and disperse potentially deadly fumes over an area the size of two football fields, officials have said.

The Navy plans to fire at the satellite as it enters Earth's atmosphere at an altitude of about 150 miles.

Officials want the missile to hit the edge of the atmosphere to ensure debris re-enters and burns up quickly.

The Missile Defense Agency estimated the cost of a sea-based attempted intercept at $40 million to $60 million.

Without any intervention, Pentagon officials have said they believe the satellite would come down on its own in early March.

The option of striking the satellite with a missile launched from an Aegis cruiser was decided upon by President Bush after consultation with several government and military officials and aerospace experts, said Deputy National Security Adviser James Jeffrey.

"If we miss, nothing changes," said NASA administrator Michael Griffin. "If we shoot and barely touch it, the satellite is just barely in orbit" and would still burn up somewhat in the atmosphere, he said.

"If we shoot and get a direct hit, that's a clean kill and we're in good shape," he added.

Hello,

Just wanted to know what type of "deadly fumes" do these satellites carry anyway?

They said that these hazardous fuels can spray up to two football field lenghts?

Are these like Hydrazine based fuels or what?

Here`s a thought fo you all:

china recently demonstrated full working ASAT capability by shooting down a real sat in orbit - i must ask , this sat the US wants to shoot - can you honestly say it is faulty? or does the US want to show to the world

`if you can do it so can we`

If SM-3 misses then scrambled egg all round i feel.

Why are they waiting for the shuttle to land? Surely if they are accurate enough to his a satellite in the first place it is very unlikely that the shuttle will get in the line of sight at the crucial moment?

On an occult note, could this be wormwood? A 'comet' seen and causing terror before impact?

I still think the danger to humans is a fantasy, namely due to the fact that the government said there is a potential threat. You should know by now that if a threat is announced, it doesn't in truth exist.

1000lbs of Hydrazine in a reinforced tank.

I have a question about the debris (If any). What if some of the debris landed in someones backyard. Can that person do whatever he/she wants, or does Uncle Sam still own it. Might be a possibility that someone in Hawaii might get some scraps.

It is government property and most of it is classified since it is a spy satellite.

Aside from the potential danger of hazardous materials, radiation, etc. it would be very unwise to touch or move any of the debris.

I bet you see something turn up on Ebay anyway. Lots of people going to try and cash in. I'm going to start watching and I bet something turns up within hours

I just hope it's not one of these.

archives.cbc.ca...

Probably a real good reason not to touch any debris.

Is it just me, or is there a bit more than coincidence that the shoot-down will be smack dab in the middle of complete totality for the eclipse?

wattsupwiththat.wordpress.com...

I am curious as to what any conclusions or conjectures "end-timers" may be drawing from these events? It certainly does seem odd...

Matthew Delooze made a connection between the return of the Genesis space probe and the massacre of some russian children in this article, implying some kind of sacrifice:

www.matthewdelooze.co.uk...

On his site he also discusses at length the supposed use by secret societies of music festivals and concerts where he suggests that human 'energy' is harvested.

So maybe the satellite being shot down, during a lunar eclipse, co-inciding with the UK's biggest live music awards ceremony, the Brit (goddess Britannia) Awards.

Then again, probably not.

I, too, wonder what the end-timers have to say about this! I heard a news report on MSNBC about how the moon will appear to have a reddish glow to it, due to dust in the atmosphere. Red moon + "dangerous" satellite in orbit being shot down = interesting Armageddon theories!

Also, I wonder if the eclipse will help or hinder bringing the satellite down? Or no effect at all?

The timing is "freaky-weird-gonzo"... who writes this stuff? The confluence of events is just weird... we're maybe a bit hyper-sensitized to this sort of events-chain but it does seem out of the ordinary to me. Like cactus sticking out of a snow bank.

You might want to watch a landing of the Space Shuttle to gain a better understanding on the toxicity of fumes.

Next I have to ask why didn't the government have a self destruct sequence
in this satellite. Most of the orbiting sats come armed with all sorts of options.
Ok to answer my own question ... all the electronics got fried, making it impossible.

This really is not my subject so I am pretty clueless.

If you were to see the object as it is fired on, what would you see in the sky on impact?

Also, how much debris will be left after a "successful" impact?

If the satellite were to be hit and only partially destroyed, would they fire again?

Likely all of it. LOL. Some smaller points of lights... maybe a burst of light if anything detonates.

All the mass plus that of the "hit-to-kill" EKV. What goes up... almost always comes down unless it's converted to energy.

They're American... they can't not resist to "do what they said". It'd be a loss of face. Condi would not be pleased to have a diplomacy asset left under-utilized or become a liability.

Should cross NA this pass SW to NE... 15 - 20 minutes or so.

Cheers,

Vic

Now is this the USA-193 thats getting shot down???
I tracked it last night on that ny2o website and it was over the west coast of Australia at an alt. of 166 miles above Earth.

Is this the one that there going to zap?

If we could see it, (Weather is partly cloudy good overhead sunshine but lousy viewing toward the horizon), something better than Bush 41 Thousand points of light while something less than the Death Star blowing up in the skies of
Endor in Return of the Jedi.

Hi,

Now what would be a similar spy satellite closest to the USA-193 (since it will not exist anymore) from the list below in this link?
