It isn't religion (belief) that the populace fear it is the manipulation of religion and of them as a result.

It isn't the belief in of itself, no.

It's The Church, and the kind of 'soldiers of God' that is produces. It's the hate that is instilled into the churchgoes that many people fear. It's the fact that these people are on 'missions' to convert people to The Church.

oops!

Just realized that I too was thrown off by the thread creator's (what is he even saying, i don't know) title and inital posts. But I see now what the actual UN stance is..

Well, it's simply absurd. Dunno what else to say. I am not surprised

I love how everyday we loose sight of what Freedom means.

This part is very interesting

"WE THE PEOPLES OF THE UNITED NATIONS HEREBY VOW

* to save succeeding generations from the scourge of organized religion, a folly which has brought untold sorrow to mankind through the division, hatred and conflict it engenders, and

* to reaffirm an individual's right to freedom of belief, freedom of conscience and freedom of prayer, and

* to establish conditions under which these freedoms can be privately exercised."

So an ongoing theme is that you can have your spirituality, but you can no longer organize in/or with different religious buildings or have a clergy class, but if you really want to, the UN will control it. They will have there own buildings as well. I saw a interfaith UN flag once but I can't find it on the web anymore, if anybody has seen it please post it.

The UN has their own spiritual caucus
www.spiritualcaucusun.org...

you know, that´s actually a really good question.

you have free speech which basically says you can say and express anything and everything. is there subjects or things that should be censured?

The snippet above says "defaming" which to me means that they would no longer tolerate criticism of religion or interpreting it for your self. Could somebody please post what is ok to believe in and what is not?

The Vaticans wet dream.

This is a push for pro-Church. This forces the idea that you need an intermediary to God e.g you are not worthy or capable of understanding the Word of God yourself, you need a priest ordained by the Church to do that part for you.

it is possible that religions will be banned...
due to problems of different beliefs which leads to war...
and also due to economic problems of every country,
countries will see that a lot of treasures, money, real estate
were owned by religions. which could saved lives and maybe a countries
financial, economic problems...

from the vantage point of a central location in the western world, imagine how much money could be extracted and used for helping the needy and the needs of society such as food, shelter, clothing, health care, agricultural development etc...if all the gold and silver in the churches such as the crosses and such could all be melted down and sold at market rates (given the current price of gold/silver this could yield quite a lot) and the vast holdings...if you liquidated the assets of say the Catholic and the Mormon (Church of Jesus Christ of Later day Saints) we are talking about billions and billions of dollars...

Time magazine had a cover story on the Mormon’s about ten years ago or so...they are one of the largest land owners in the world and have a team of Wall Street executives that manage their vast portfolio holdings of stocks and investments...

Do they not see the hungry people in the world? Do they not see the sickness and malnutrition and social plaques that humanity face? Yet even among those who do, they continue to horde and amass these giant wealth holdings. My question, is how does holding on to the vast empires help the needy?

The new mantra among Christians should be "melt the gold cross idols and give to the poor". It's obscene what organized religion does...yeah they do outreach activities, but much like the big corporations it's strategic activity in many cases and the resources that are given, end up right back in the church coffers. And notice how the pope always stops short of saying we need family planning or birth control, and all the while the planet's population continues to grow at astronomical rates and STD's continue to flourish. And now with billions of people in developing countries now coming online (onto the fuel and energy grid) the massive population explosion is like the chickens who finally have came home to roost...energy and food prices are going through the roof, soon we will see massive riots (we already are in parts of the world), and yet the church looks the other way! It's insane!

Something for ya'all to think about this Sunday on the drive to church, or while standing there at the gas station filling up the mini-van or SUV.

NEW YORK, NY (PRWEB) January 27, 2004 -- A draft resolution which aims to secure global peace and stability at the expense of organized religion is today being submitted to the United Nations in New York.

The resolution is being proposed by Antony Last, founder of formulism.org, a site which claims that freedom FROM religion would be of far greater benefit to mankind than freedom OF religion.

Freedom from Religion | Proposed UN Resolution / Charter Amendment | Version 1.1...

WE THE PEOPLES OF THE UNITED NATIONS HEREBY VOW

* to save succeeding generations from the scourge of organized religion, a folly which has brought untold sorrow to mankind through the division, hatred and conflict it engenders, and

* to reaffirm an individual's right to freedom of belief, freedom of conscience and freedom of prayer, and

* to establish conditions under which these freedoms can be privately exercised.

AND FOR THESE ENDS WE UNDERTAKE

1. To outlaw, with immediate effect, the public _expression of religious beliefs, including the use of symbols, clothing or markings which are synonymous with any currently or previously existing religions.

2. To outlaw, with immediate effect, public acts of worship or religious declaration.

3. To outlaw, with immediate effect, private gatherings of three or more people for the purposes of engaging in acts of worship or religious services.

4. To outlaw, with immediate effect, the publication of books, literature or articles which seek to promote religious beliefs or encourage adherence to religious doctrine.

5. To outlaw, after a period of amnesty, the personal ownership of books or materials which seek to promote religious beliefs or encourage adherence to religious doctrine. (Books of academic or social interest will be made freely available to schools, universities and public libraries).

6. To outlaw, with immediate effect, the celebration of religiously significant dates.

7. To begin, with immediate effect, the destruction or reassignment of predominantly religious buildings, such as churches, mosques and temples.

Well, this is pretty scary...of course this resolution was presented over four years ago, in 2004 and apparently didn't pass the general assembly. However, just the thought that the UN would actually even consider such a wide sweeping ban is really frightenng. I'm sure it will be re-submitted sometime soon, though.

lmao, don't worry, i don't think this will be passed - there'd be protests in the street for god's sake, and you can take me literally when i say that.

If they want to ban religion they WILL. As you already know they dont need our vote, they'll just impose it....same way Bush got his second term...just on a larger scale

for sure there will be a lot of protests, but more will agree with the resolution...
it is true that our vote are not needed, because it will be the representatives of
every country who will vote...... which will surely pass the resolution. due to the problems we are having.... a lot of people goes to church but the people who don't , is much more bigger,, because they know most religions are only after the donations, power in the political arena.. i'm not a atheist.. but it was the truth..... too hard to find the real one... religions do some help to the poor, go on medical missions.... but the truth is, they only want more donations from the businessman, politicians, corporations.... a big part goes to them... let the government get all those treasures and give help to the poor...dont use it on making nukes.... pleasee......

Most people believe this is the year that things are going to go wrong for the right reasons,

Only God will decide if this is right for mankind?

Is this the last of the sunsets we will see for now?

China, Burma and Germany?

I've seen how the UN "keeps the peace." Do some research on Katanga (Congo Crisis). Look what happened in Rwanda under Secretary General Annan's leadership. I don't like their brand of peacekeeping.
