Why is a member here allowed to knowingly lie when there have been plenty of complaints?

No prob. here, I get ragged on by BOTH sides of the political spectrum. I don't play that game.

As I said SO, this is just one of many instances of modding that seems to suggest I am not the favourite person of some mods

Well... you DID say you were a hot head.

Ive been following this thread with fascination and what I notice is that you keep hinting at not being liked. To which I respond:

We are lucky that we dont require being liked, right? I mean, who cares if we are liked. Do we wanna be liked or get a message out? Or both? Thats the whole problem with politicians nowdays: They would prefer being liked than telling the truth. And its also the problem with voters: They would prefer being lied to than some unpleasant politician.

The thing that irritates me is being hit with some meaningless 20 point fine for accidently quoting a small 2 line post in a month and a half old thread that I hardly remember.. But guys can post thread after thread about how the moon is fake, or reptilian shapeshifters, etc... Just seems like you're chasing your tail sometimes when you're trying to contribute fact and truth to the dicussions and some guy is getting away with thousands of points by saying "MOONS HOLLOW! ALSO ARTIFICIAL! Don't know how or why, but it is!" Seems kind of ridiculous...

This begs the question, are you here for the points or for conversing about subject that interest you?

But for a much better answer see SO’s post about no planers above

This is why I quote and not just "reply to". Do we care? I do. I'm trying to debate, discuss and find the truth. If people come into ATS and just blabber about what they "think" is the truth and tote it as such, I have a problem with that. Sorry if that offends some. ATS was (and I hope still is) a site where we are supposed to "deny ignorance" right? Well, what you are asking us to do is embrace it. Not me brother.

And as always, I stated in the first page of this thread that I understood the jobs of the mods. I had a compliant. It has been addressed. A few people have lost some respect in my book, but I will not hold that against them. Anyway, I'm just a dumb American who can't remember past yesterday anyway. So, what does my opinion even matter then also?

BTW, I know you didn't say anything about Americans. I just threw that in there for laughs in this thread. It's my opinion we all need to chill. Members and mods alike. Let's take a step back and cool off and come to the table with a discussion. There's no reason for us (me included.....glad I had to walk home and had a chance to cool off...now I'm thinking a little more clearly) to get banned over this. Like I've said a million times. I like ATS and I don't want to see it go the way of jref. I hope I can say that?

I'm actually a lot more carefull about what I post than I used to be - this also applies to how I perceive things. Instead of boiling up, I take a minute to think about things from a different perspective before drawing any type of a conclusion. You might say I've turned over a new leaf

And I cannot for the life of me figure out why some threads are allowed to stand, whilst others are not, in forums related to news stories, especially breaking news.
I can go into specifics if you like

Your thread title implies that there have been "plenty" of complaints against this person, seanm. Considering you stated that you do not have knowledge of any other complaints you either made a mistake when titling this thread, or you lied. I will take the high road however and assume that your title for this thread was meant as a general statement about liars on this site.

Very good point. If you have a suggestion for the thread title, I'm all ears. I will try to change the title if I can. to more accurately convey what I was originally trying to say.

So youd prefer threads that YOU dont deem important to be removed?

I hinted about it happening with a couple of people, not everyone. jeez

I'm only interested if it affects my threads, and what I want to get across - and in some cases it has.
Apart from that I couldn't care less - I don't come here to be popular, I have enough real friends who aren't virtual

I think any points system by proxy creates some kind of caste system. The more points, the more response to your comments or questions, deeming you to new comers at least of your credibility and what have you. I see at least 15 posts (some I agree with, some I disagree with) from fellow members go overlooked everyday that are more than worthy of an applause, but they don't recieve them, though at the same time "no moon guy" is getting ample amounts of credit for something that is so brazenly stupid.

I think it's too late for me to change the title. If a mod sees fit to change it to something more appropriate, then I'm all for it. See, I am man enough to admit MY mistakes.

Now let's not get silly, I didn't say that at all.

I was talking about my own threads and how they relate to other threads regarding breaking news.

At no point did I say that.

Trying to single me out to pick a fight with ain't gonna work - sorry to disappoint you

Yeah it's nothing to get banned over griff. I don't know what I would do with myself if I couldn't come here and beat up on skeptics once in a while. ATS is probably the best thing to hit conspiracy theorists since the Warren Commission, but I guess we all have to learn the rules of engagement here. Glad to see you posting griff

It's getting towards bedtime over here and whilst I'd like to say that it's been a pleasure to absorb the development of this thread over the evening I'm afraid that it has not.

It's been a bit like looking at a car crash for most of the time and the patience of some of the mods and staff in the face of some of what must be some pretty disappointing displays of childish foot stamping and toy throwing has been fairly remarkable.

So, there has been some inconsistent moderating; well, to be frank, given that threads and posts here range from fascinating, challenging and important at one end down to bizarre, offensive and occasionally downright infantile at the other I can't say that I'm remotely surprised that there are sometimes differences in the way that some staff will manage member input particularly in light of the size of the site.

However, to reduce this to the level of some of the complaints posted here tonight has struck me as utterly unreasonable. I can think of a number of far less well managed sites I post on where certain members, staff and just plain old fashioned cyber bullies would have torn some of tonight's whingers to shreds without a second thought and I am more than a little surprised that we got so far through the thread before some significant restraining action had to be taken.

I suspect that there are a couple of members who may do well to take a break and review their input to this thread in the morning when they may think better of some comments which I would be embarrassed to see in my name.

...and what the hell is up with the draft posts thingy which left my half completed post on the board earlier? Jeez, I feel a complaint coming on myself now.

I’m not asking you to embrace ignorance, quite the opposite. No matter how effectively you defeat someone argument some people will still hold some bizarre believes, all I’m saying is why go through the bother of debating them again and again over the same topic? If you know that they are wrong and have shown them so, just move on and ignore them.

Well, I don't understand how John and the rest of the No Planers are allowed to even operate here as virtually everything they say is false and they keep repeating it over and over across multiple threads no matter how badly debunked over and over. They'll make an absurd claim, it will be destroyed... PROVEN completely false, and once the thread has advanced a page or so it's like the green light for them to start making the same claim all over again as if it never even happened.

Maybe this IS the problem. We've discussed before about a forum where you had to back up your claims or not post there. What say you? What say you all?

I wouldn't want to the mod tasked with keeping the score on their ambitions and claims.

I agree totally.

Interesting that most of the trouble that takes place on this site is somehow related to the 9/11 Forum.

It's a very emotional thing for people. I try to curb mine but as you can see, sometimes they slip.

I do have the advantage of (I think) not having witnessed it on tv until about a few weeks later. See, I was in the basement of our lab (right next to Dulles airport BTW) classifying soil samples for a foundation we were designing. I heard about the plane crash and then heard about the other. I really was unaware until a few hours in to it. But anyway, that's getting off subject.
