They most probably used another operative interface to illustrate what it will be like, hence the errata.

Probably just means that NASA´s airbrush department are not the only ones doing a sloppy job

But suppose this is a smoking gun, how could they possibly use the Clementine-images in this context? The Kaguya lunar material should be hi-res, right?

Btw: I could mail my contact and ask him about this and the NASA connection, if this is of any interest.

edit: I agree with the above poster that they´re probably going to be using the clem data as a location map, or something to that effect.

Excellent suggestion nothing like getting it from the horses mouth, although they do list Nasa as one of their international partners and they are using Nasa ground stations as part of their tracking for Kaguya.

It would be interesting to see what else they are officially collaborating on though.

Good to see that someone is doing their research! I figured as much as to it being official, but as you´re saying it will be interesting to hear whether NASA will be involved f.x in processing the images.

I´ll wait a while and watch the thread for other interesting questions, and then I´ll mail them.

I do agree about getting info from the horses mouth, even though I think the best thing would be to for the ATS community to launch our own lunar probe

Well it's funny you should say that but I have heard rumours from a certain direction about an anti-grav ship.

Still my lips are sealed because I get the feeling someone else maybe chipping in.

You are all very interesting in your thoughts. I can't wait until the next ATS Mix show where Mr. X tells us how many hits this thread got from.......

By all means..
always good to have official word... gives us something to compare to later... in case the story 'changes'

So who is running mission control?

So who is running mission control?

Well refering back to that PDF doc the diagram shows the mission control in Japan with the use of Nasa ground trans/receive as one component of several stations such as Perth and Japanese locations.

So I would put mission control in the hands of the Japanese at the moment.

Can you describe one thing that we understand that has concrete evidence?

I can tell you that mass hysteria is pretty SOLID evidence, if not CONCRETE.

Excellent analysis, NJMooch.

In my career in outsourced call center management, i have had a 3 year stint as a Workforce Manager. This requires quite a bit of reporting. One rule I always had was that if you didn't provide me a number up to the hundredths of a decimal point, you were making it up and playing "loose and fast" with the numbers. I had many, many employees get "the speech" about data accuracy, et al.

I would venture a guess that along the way someone played loose and fast with the numbers at NASA. I doubt the JAXA employees would do this, as the workforce in Japan is MUCH more disciplined.

Think of it this way: you start adding up several items weight and round off the totals to the nearest pound, you end up with a fairly large discrepancy at some point.

Granted, it would take MANY items to create such a disparity, but you can see how simple mistakes can create problems when someone is not disciplined about being accurate within the scale of the task.

Personally, I don't expect anything juicy to be publicly released by JAXA, for one reason alone. Would the Space Agencies alliance publish anything that would give China, Russia or even India an extra incentive to go claim the loot before them? Power and greed by the dark governments and elitists will dictate what is released to the public. I mean if you know something invaluable has been discovered, like an alien mother ship, or a complete abandoned city, with technologies thousands of years more advanced than ours, would they share it with the Moon race arch enemies of China/Russia? My guess is: Nope...

Might also be the main reason NASA has been going through great lengths to hide things from the public.

But that's just my humble opinion

What I read was the first pictures were of a small satellite being deployed taken ten minutes apart. Then I read that the pictures were of an antenna. If it was a small satellite would it take longer than ten minutes to pass out of the field of view? If it was an antenna and the quality was due to the fact that the camera was being used to monitor the state of their equipment, wouldn't they want to be able to see a little bit better than that? I can barely make out what the junque is in the pictures let alone what kind of condition its in. Maybe their "monitoring" camera was damaged. Also, If I had any vested interest in the mission such as my Japanese tax money, I wouldn't want to wait until December to get some return on my investment. Real poor quality photography. Thankyou.

Do you think they will be releasing images today?

Anxiously waiting

According to the site they are in the lunar orbit observation phase and should be collecting data. I can't wait to see what they offer the public. Did I mention that I hate to wait?

Well looking at the project site there has been no press release to say Kaguya is in it's observational orbit.

It was scheduled to be so on the 19th but the actuality has not been confirmed.

Judging by previous announcements they tend to be a couple of days behind with the press release, so I hope all is well.

I was looking for the info that I saw a few hours ago and it is gone. There was a link to a PDF file that said what I posted. I cannot find this info anywhere on the site. I knew I should have saved that file. It also listed that it was in an orbit with 123km and 82km altitudes. So it looks like this isn't a perfect circle.

www.jaxa.jp...
Lists the link that I looked at but it takes you to a page that lists info updated on the 21st. www.jaxa.jp...

Why is the PDF file I looked at gone?

They also say Selene moved into regular control mode and images of the Moon's surface were taken by a monitor camera. One of these pics is shown on this page.

I am lost as to why this info was changed. The press link on the one page also doesn't work.

I found this in my history folder, it is the link to the PDF file. Let me know what you think and why did they take this link off the site?

As promised.... i've bee watching the JAXA site and ...... well its a tiny thumbnail but looks like another image that they have released !

(October 21, 2007)

JAXA

No other pictures available on their site. I looked for a bigger version of this.

They must have more pictures that they are not showing us for this one to be "released" because it wasnt on the list of official photos that they published!

Why dont they just release the full RAW archive of images for us to look at.

Because they do not want to and because they have no obligation to do it.

PS: after writing the above and before posting it I went looking for more images, and although I do not speak Japanese I thought that it could be a good idea if I went looking for images on the Japanese (original) version of the site.

They have a PDF with some images and the names and map location of some of the craters visible on the images.
