Indeed, that is just what we need...another minority to scapegoat. How appropriate that on MLK day we are discussing this matter.
I have a friend who pointed out what Martin Luther King Jr. had to say about aliens, he summed it up pretty much the same, but with a twist...seeing
how we treat each other, who in their right mind would reveal their otherworldly origins? I would love to find that quote for the edification of our
enlightened members.
Another comes to me, one from the Big Book itself, "God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the
weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty; and the base things of the world and the things which are despised God has
chosen, and the things which are not, to bring to nothing the things that are, that no flesh should glory in His presence." 1 Corinthians 1:27-30
If read carefully, it seems to honor diversity and welcome change. My interpretation of "foolish", "weak", and "base" are different in my mind
no doubt from the time they were written and interpreted. Once long ago my mentor said to me, "When everyone knows that things are a certain way,
then they are about to change." So that means the opposite of whatever the circumstances are now.
This is the kind of change we all must experience as individuals before our minds can "open" as NT puts it. It is a personal journey, a subjective
one that I cannot lead anyone through. Those who have eyes and see not and ears but hear not do not have a mind to understand. First comes the
realization, than all else follows.
It is my understanding the greater portion of spiritual growth requires some fundamental perception of God. Perhaps that is why I am a deist, at least
I am told by many that I am. And what about those encounters witnesses have had with the UFOnauts who did not ask to take them to their leader, but
rather what they believed? Why in Heaven's name travel so far and attempt the most dangerous contact just to find out what we believe?
Well, we sent out missionaries, did we not? So these missionaries to the stars are most likely the forerunners of future explorers. The first waters
to test is what the natives believe, and a belief in God is more likely a good thing than a bad one. Its a green flag to the ones who would explore
and settle, and maybe even in the far future we will use the same methods again, I would put money on it.
Oh yes, recall that movie "
They Live"? It was the street preacher that opened up Roddy Piper's eyes with the right pair of shades? "I have
come here to chew bubble gum and kick ass... and I'm all out of bubble gum." Yeah, that be the one.
