Only people who dont know the genre say that. Common does not sound 50 cent. T.I. Does not sound like Mos Def. Talib Kweli does not sound like Snoop. Ice T does nt sound like LL Cool J.Eminem does Not sound like Paul Wall. Trina does not sound like Lil Kim And your telling me they sound alike??? You prob dont know who half of these people are.If you think they do sound alike then you are ignorent to the genre. Sure songs sound like b/c they are prob. in the same subset of the genre. ep. Most snap music sound the same. And if dont know who or what I just talked about once again you are ignorant to the genre.
BTW MTV isnt the best source for a varity of rap songs

Shots,
I wonder if you'd say the same about Sylvia Plath, or Edgar Allan Poe. A negative outlook on life is common in poetry, and should be expected, especially when surrounded by negativity.
And that's not to say the artist only wrote sad poetry either. This one just happened to be about some of the darker parts of his experiences. Just as feelings vary, so does the art.
Would you like me to find one of his happier poems?

Why is it that sooo many rappers/regular people dont trust the police enoughto help them?

Can we please discuss why he does not trust the police? I feel like we are seriously sidestepping the issue. Attacking rap and rappers when thats not the point. Why is it that sooo many rappers/regular people dont trust the police enoughto help them?

Why should he have to play by their rules, which you agree with?
Lazy pigs. They always want to have someone else do their work for them.

My point was that rappers are not going to help the police who have a track record of not doing anything for them or their family.
You're making it sound like they wount help just b/c its the cool thing to do and thats not the case.
All I know is I wouldnt say a damn word....why just so they can leak my name..put my life in danger ..I think not.
How about when one of Jeffrey dauhmer's victims tried to seek help...

So what I'm seeing from shots and jbondo are judgments and assumptions based on little to no knowledge of the genre.
I thought the point of joining ATS was to deny ignorance.

I think rappers don't trust police because of the whole Tupac and Notorious BIG murders. That's not the only reason, but I'm sure it has something to do with it. In today's rap world, it's unpopular to trust the police because if you talk to the police you are seen as a "snitch" and that is one of the worst things you can be in the rap world. I mean, go back to NWA and the whole "F*** Tha Police" or Ice T's "Cop Killa". Hating the police has been around since rap started (Not the initial Big Daddy Kane rap movement, but definitely Public Enemy and NWA).
Also, most rappers (regardless of race/gender/whatever) usually grow up in poverty. They feel that they have been wronged by the system, and the police are part of that system. If you look at lyrics by Dead Prez, one of my favorite rap groups, you can see the lack of trust (If we don't get em, they gon' get us all, I'm down for running up on them crackers in their city hall). That can be seen as a perfect example of their lack of trust in the system
Besides, if anyone is a fan of Cam'ron, which I am, they will tell you that he's all talk. His image is that of a tough guy/gang-banger even though he's probably never sold guns or committed any robberies
