Iranian State Tv Airs Video of Captured British Troops

www.foxnews.com

LONDON — Iranian state television showed video footage Wednesday of a British servicewoman and a group of seized British sailors and marines.

The video showed the sailors and marines eating. The woman, 26-year-old Faye Turney, was shown wearing a white tunic and with a black headscarf draped loosely over her hair.

"Obviously we trespassed," the woman said on the footage broadcast by Al-Alam, an Arabic-language, Iranian state-run television station that is carried across the Middle East by satellite

Yes.

The British media feel that the troops have been put under pressure, the government probably feels the same too. You could see it in the statement that the girl gave.

I agree, I just don't see anything good coming out of this. But, if they are forcing it, why would they let the girl go tomorrow? She would testify that they forced a confession. Or would it not matter cause they would deny it? Maybe they won't release her. I don't know, either way it will be interesting what happens after this......

FOXNews have a theory

she is being release because the men will be kept for a very long time. let the lady go for reasons of ethics.

isn't it against some UN mandate that prisoners are not to be paraded around on tv?

I wouldn't put much stock in any confessions made and the woman's might have been in exchange for her release. I guess we'll find out soon enough.

I think thats part of the Geneva Conventions which I believe Iran is a member. That deals with POWs though and I dont know if these sailors are considered Prisoners of War since Iran and the UK are not at war.

Spies for example are not protected the same way as POWs. Like when the Soviet union showed U2 pilot Powers on TV. He was considered a Spy.

Makes me wonder if any men from this unit would have said the same thing if they would have a quick release either today or tomorrow. It's already known that by torturing someone that you can get them to say what you want. She thinks they will get tortured, so she says what they want, they have no use for her now, so they release her..

Iran wouldn't torture a women because of there would be an international outcry over it.

Well, the last time they did this part of the conditions of the release of the British personnel in 2004 was that they would confess on Iranian television. They did so and were released.

Hell, if that's what she has to do then go for it. I think the world is clever enough to work out that this is probably forced.

But that was within 3-4 days. We was dealing with a moderate government and didn't have to break diplomatic links, prove evidence and threaten to take them to the UN.

I am not sure on military conduct, but I honestly don't think she should have given anymore information other than her name, nation of origin and rank.

She is discussing her military mission with the enemy, and is publicly tarnishing Britain, whether true or not, I do not see it in her place to say. Maybe that is just me.
