She is discussing her military mission with the enemy, and is publicly tarnishing Britain, whether true or not, I do not see it in her place to say. Maybe that is just me.

Agreed.
Iran is trying to humiliate them and we should not stand for it.

For anybody that doesn't believe that this was either a forced confession or at least a false confession to aid her release then I refer you to my last thread. She could not have confessed to something that she didn't know.

What I feel may have happened here is that either it was forced from her in some way or the lads had a word with her that went along the lines of "you are a mother. You do not need to be here. Just say that we was in Iranian waters and get yourself realeased. As for us, were staying silent for the time being"

I am not sure on military conduct, but I honestly don't think she should have given anymore information other than her name, nation of origin and rank.

She, nor anyone else on the whole of HMS Cornwall, has been trained in facing interrogation. Only the special forces, rescue teams and air crews get that kind of training.

Would you court marshal her? If the men start "admitting" to illegally entering Iranian waters, do they then deserve that too? Those captured in 2004 admitted to it, should they have been kicked out?

Mostl likely.

The Iranians probably are letting her go because of her gender and she is a mother. Plus, the lads probably kow they are in this for a long time and its best to get her out asap. especially if they face a trial and jail.

Just a thought, But if and when she makes it back home, I hope there were not threats of mis treatment of the 14 others if she tells she was lying, she will obviously tell the government she was lying/told to say those things (if it turns out is the case which IMHO IS) Will the government not let her speak to the media and start another conspiracy situation. You know, The government wont let us see her so Iran must be right. kinda conspiracy. Would be smart of Iran if they did and draw the common man to re think who's telling the truth

oh my god, they are ok and will be returned.
Lets freak out some more over what was likely a misunderstanding.
Good thing the US with it's John Wayne R.O.E. didn't get caught up in this crap.

President Bush spoke to British Prime Minister Tony Blair over a secured video conference call about the standoff Wednesday.

"The president fully backs Tony Blair and our allies in Britain," she said.

Agreed…Brittan alone is a threat to the Iranian regime; add pressures by the EU, coalition nations, NATO, UN pressure etc. plus the US Navy roaring immediately off the coast of Iran…Imo, Iran’s scant international creditability (if there ever was any) is running-out…

Their provocative move simply backfired.

Add to that the obvious evidence of dictated statements is rife as to publicly (and rather pathetically) attempt make the Iranians story cohere eg:

"I wish we hadn't [crossed into Iranian waters] because then I would be home with you right now,"-- Leading Seaman Turney
BBC

“Home right now”…in her own handwriting...what junk...especially coming from Iran which makes knee-jerk claims other nations are "arrogant" (perhaps they mistakenly thought "ignorant").

For someone of the Royal Navy and with English as their first language, the choice of words seems basic, don't you think? if you read the whole letter through, its pretty basic English.

That was such a set-up. Who the hell would compliment someone that arrested you. Looks scripted. You can see at one point she was trying to remeber her lines. Then she looked down at the end like she was ashamed of herself for telling lies. lol

Thats a good point,

she did keep looking down, like to remember something. and when the troops were eating, all looked at the camera and quickly got stuck into the food.

The film was made for internal/regional consumption.

My guess...by her (female) openly smoking….this may invoke a cultural repulse or have a significant/cultural meaning to those views that believe her comments as fact.

The smoking was an intentional addition by the Iranians.

I highly doubt thats what she wears when shes in the UK on leave.

Iran law sets tough rules on press photos of women.

I even think in Iran's legal system, womens testimony is at best worth only half the value of the testimony of men
