Yeah, but they're guitars are tuned down a bit.

They're extraordinarily boring though. Seriously, who thought it'd be an awesome idea to play a downtuned power chord and sustain it for 10 minutes?

Dethklok (from Metalacolypse)

Yes, I know it's a cartoon, but that doesn't change the music.
I have the cd and play it all the time in the car...

Makes Metallica sound like elevator music...

How about Exodus? 'Atrocity Exhibition: Exhibit A' is one of the heaviest albums I've heard in years.
My fav is Megadeth though.

If you love Dethklok you should check out Zimmer's Hole. Gene Hoglan drums for both bands. They also have similar lyrical topics, ie parodying metal cliches.

heavies:

the sword -- they create a wall of thick guitar. really tight live show too

clutch: nice and chewy and heavy guitars.

sabbath: obligatory heavy

high on fire: lesser known heavy

Yes, I did!
On page 4. Here's the video again with better quality:

Manowar - Bridge of Death (1984)

Btw, they're not the heaviest. But from what I've heard, there's a piece of something extremely heavy (1 tonne) inside of the bassdrum, to prevent it from moving while they are playing...

By no means am I a heavy metal expert, but growing up the strangest things I have ever seen by any music group were done by Gwar.

Some strange birds these cats are.

Plus they had their own action figures.

Black Sabbath may be a great band, but there's no way they are the heaviest.

I would say Nile for the heaviest metal band, but Cannibal Corpse's album "Kill" could redefine any metal lover's opinion of what is heavy and what isn't.

If all you care about is how heavy your music is, listen to these songs:

Nile:
Sacrifice Unto Sebek
Cast Down the Heretic
Lashed

Cannibal Corpse:
Make Them Suffer
Five Nails Through The Neck
The Time To Kill Is Now

I dunno how you missed out Death Walking Terror. That's easily the heaviest song on the Kill album.

I second the people who mentioned Lair of the Minotaur, Anaal Nathrakh, Strapping Young Lad, The Berzerker, Gojira, and Meshuggah.

However, people are also forgetting Intestinal Disgorge, The Dillinger Escape Plan, and Anal #. Those bands are beyond brutal. Mayhem was also pretty extreme during the Deathcrush era.
