can it be closed now?
Where all all the devout believers? hiding under a rock no doubt.

the only garbage posted in it if you had even bothered to read through even ONE single page is by people like you. you just prove the point i made on page 11, but of course you wont bother to read that one either will you, or any other poster who already has and will continue to rubbish this thread because they think they are 'clever'. so go ahead with your silly comments and prove my point!

Its garbage due to whats written in it. I have read every single one of the posts on
all 17 pages, and most of them are telling us how the world will end or how a major
disaster if gonna consume us all. And guess what, none of it happened.
There were even people saying they've stocked up on food or even taken the week
off work.
Incidently, i made a post on page four.
I assume that must of slipped you by.

what i said on page 11 (amongst others) must have slipped you by. or you are just a selfish and immature member who just cannot stop themself, as i stated then?

You certainly did read all the posts did you? If you did, there were some people like me trying to find out reasons why this dooms day prediction is untrue. As I have observed, most of people were thinking of 'what' rather than 'how' of the assumed 'apocalypse'. Nice entertainment though.

if you truly had been following this thread for 11 pages then you would undoubtedly have read several times the request that people like you stop making comments like this in a thread which had a serious purpose and intent. i already stated there were many other threads which you could make your useless comments in regarding aug 22nd and asked for serious participation only of events which MAY indicate foreknowledge of an event.

there is an immense difference between foresight and hindsight. would you have scoffed at people (like, say alex jones) who predicted 911 would happen simply because you didnt think it would? its very easy to look back on an event and say 'i told you so' but unless you and the other people making really useful comments like 'nothings going to happen' and 'your all stupid' comments are actually psychic then you cannot possibly claim to know such a thing.

so, like i said before, some of you members are acting like children and cannot comply with a simple request to stop making pathetic ner ner ner comments and stay out of a thread which has been plainly lain out before you as a place to post 'evidence' of any foreknowledge. if you really cannot manage to do such a simple task as that, then PLEASE by all means create yourself an 'anti-aug 22 wierd stuff' thread and post you comments in there, or be my guest and show your real immaturity and selfishness by replying back in this one.

id also like to thank again the few people (especially cosmo dag) who have participated in or taken an interest in what this thread is trying to achieve in a positive way.

so, IF you can contribute something important to this thread then by all means do so. now can we get back on track again please?

sigh

So this is the crux of your argument then eh? Boo hooing because someone didnt
happen to agree or believe all that has been written in the posts? Just because
they happen to think that a major catastrophy wasnt going to happen(didnt) on the 22nd?
Dont make me laugh, if you didnt want people to have an opinion on the subject,
then why start the thread in the first place?
There were people on this thread who did believe something was going to happen
to the extent that they were taking the day off. Isnt that being paranoid beyond
belief? Dont be so touchy just because i disagreed with a post that wasnt even
yours.

And? Canadians hate Harper, Americans hate Bush, french hates Chirac... what's you're point? Ahmadinejad will not blow up the world, he's not that crazy, only medias portrait him as crazy, don't let the medias, run by neo-con Murdoch, fool you.

Okay, nothing big happened yesterday except we got our response from Iran (another prolific written statement I believe).

So, good morning world, everything is just the same, or is it?

Marines Involuntary Recall

The number of U.S. troops in Iraq has climbed back to 138,000, driven up in part by the need to control the escalating violence in Baghdad and the decision to delay the departure of an Alaska-based Army brigade.

The increase comes as the U.S. Marine Corps is preparing to order thousands of its troops to active duty in the first involuntary recall since the early days of the war.

Note this is on the tails of many troops who thought they were coming home now being held another four months with little notice.

Odd thing is, I think this is the type of thing this thread was really started for, to report these types of occurrances, but this only hit the news today, although..

President Bush authorized the recall on July 26.

So this strangely enough comes to light the day after the response from Iran, though no mention of Iran is in the reasons for the recall. Guess they thought if it leaked out any sooner there would be an all out panic.

Anyway - make of it what you will.

Can anyone speculate why the Marines have issued an involuntary re-call to active duty? This is rare these days. They say it's due to recruitment levels.

Also, what's going on in DR Congo? Things are getting hot down there. Didn't Iran have a shipment intercepted from them, or something?

you know relentless, this thread has really sadenned me with the attitude of some of the members who have repeatedly rubbished the thread despite being asked from post number one not to do so. they must be the type of people who ring the emergency services with crank calls whilst someone with a real emergency might not get through because of it.

i asked several times for help from the mods to keep the thread on a serious level and even asked once for the thread to be closed because it was turning into yet another multi-page mess from members who cannot respect another members request for a serious debate nor the rules of this site. whilst a couple of mods did actually choose to paste links to terms and conditions, no action was actually taken against those who persisted in ignoring them. and yet, here we are on page 18 of a thread which ought really to be one or two pages of serious discussion still having to explain the intent of the thread and requesting that members act in a mature and respectful manner.

i used to enjoy this site, but sometimes i just wonder what direction its actually heading and if anybody really cares. if putting up with infantile and disrespectful behaviour is to become the norm here then im not sure i'll be participating for much longer.

Don't be so discouraged JustyC. I think you should be proud of this thread. It's earned a front page banner ad for goodness sake!

There are always going to be jerks in the world, and if a bunch of people took a thread with a very unique twist on a predicition that DID turn into current events (HEY PEOPLE - this whole event was being seriously discussed on network news, it wasn't just another run of the mill prediction).

It was a hot topic, it got more than it's share of immature responses because of that. Thicken your skin, it was a good contribution even if it has led to a bad experience for you, please don't let it get you so down we don't see more from you.

I agree with my fellow FSME, you should be proud of this thread inspite of the efforts some expended to try to derail it. You should learn to just ignore them instead of dignifying their posts with a response. If you were not aware, that is the raison detre of the troll - to illicit a response to their insults.

Even you yourself got narky with me because I expressed a doubt over the veracity of your unsubstantiated claim. I apologized (which I was not obliged to do so since I expressed my doubt in the form: "I hope this isnt another hoax") after independantly verifying the story yet you still saw fit to continue to make an issue out of it. It's that type of behaviour which derails threads too. Relentless nailed it, you have to grow thicker skin.

Also I personally started a thread in the Staff And Council Pub forum over some of the comments in this thread for the mods to keep an eye on. So I know first hand that the mods have been all over this thread and if there was an infraction that waranted a warn they would of dished them out.

Marines Involuntary Recall

I was surprised to see the word ' involuntary' used in a media title, and was curiousl to see the source; however, I don't believe they used that word in the report. I apologize if I missed it, and would be happy to read it again if I did.

I believe that word is out of context as the U.S. military is still voluntary. They are just reactivating some of the personnel who are currently inactive. This is no surprise to the soldiers and is certainly expected. The only troops they expect to return are the ones who are still contracted. As long as the contract is still valid, both parties are responsible for the contractual fullfilment.

Note this is on the tails of many troops who thought they were coming home now being held another four months with little notice.

It's too bad they are disappointed, and I definately feel their pain but I'm not going to focus anger or resentment on anyone. If the soldier had no intention of fulfilling his/her part of the agreement, then he/she should not have signed it.

I'm sure many of them are angry at themselves for agreeing to a contract with obligations they no longer wish to fulfill. But to be angry at someone other than themselves is just a waste of energy.

Actually, I got the word involuntary from seeing it on TV, then I just came on and linked to the first article I saw instead of going to the source I heard it on. (Cut me some slack - it was 5 AM
)Not trying to be misleading.

So here it is from MSNBC which is what I was watching.

Marines to issue involuntary call-ups

Yep - they used the word.

Better yet, if you dont have anything to contribute or something that can be used as evidence to show things are developing, then why post here in the first place? Like i once told here, people should always look at the word "prediction" to get an good impression of what this thread is all about, its like the weatherforecast, clouds can change directions.

Also, i've told that ignorance, disbelief and sarcasm can make a discussion crash, most importantly this should be avoided when things do turn out rather ugly. True, most dates discussed on ATS turn out to be false, but does that give people any reason to bash other predictions and class them as rubbish? Instead, contribute in the thread by posting counterevidence that proves people wrong, and sometimes reassure people that nothing is going to happen, yet share something that signifies something, not nothing. Do this, and you might concider yourself getting better participating in discussions like these.

Following the lowest part of your post, i should let you know that having an opinion is good, hell yeah, its basicly sometimes the backbone of discussions. However, these opinions must not interfere with the ongoing efforts of ATS members who do care about the subject in a particular thread, and actually contribute something that keeps things moving.

OK, I would like to get back on topic and I have a few things to say.

This whole thread was created from a published article by Bernard Lewis in the WSJ on August 8th.

He gave specific reasons to expect a major crisis and suggested it could start as early as August 22nd. Understand...this was just a possible start, nothing concrete. However, the rationale for his point of view still exists.

The Iranian President is on the record stating that Iran will be instrumental in establishing conditions to bring out the 12th Imam. These conditions will be total chaios and major loss of life. He feels it is his divine destiny to bring this to happen.

He is also on record stating that the 12th Imam will return within two years!

These are the reasons why this thread is significant! August 22nd was only one possibility. However the clock is ticking with his two year window.

justyc and others, just because you may not see a warn or a ban, does not mean action, consultations and warns weren't given to offending members.

There will always be two extremes to every situation and thru experience on this board alone, many of you have already come to realize that this is just how some people react. Ridicule, repeating the same thing over and over, not reading or getting facts for themselves is all part of what the culture of many message board members participate in.

If an attack is personal and you feel a mod may have missed it, send a complaint or u2. We may not always see things in the same light as others, but without communication we will not know. I'm not saying just because a member doesn't like what another member says or their opinion on the situation should warrant Moderator action, because we are not the thought police. We will however do our best to enforce the Terms and Conditions of the site and guide others to the ways of proper net etiquette.

Again if there is something that you feel the moderators have missed, please send a complaint and remember moderator action is not always visible to the entire board.

I find the ignore button a wonderful tool for 'responding' to trolls without responding and fueling their insatiable appetite.

This is a great thread and you should be proud of it! We just need to get you to use the ignore button more effectively.
