Hi All!
My son picked up a webcam for me and helped me pick out a software package and get things set up. We actually had it monitoring last night and it
activated several times. It was a good exercise to test the sensitivity of the camera/software and to learn how the software archives. I'm
currently testing out a trial version of WebCam Monitor 4.2 and I like it so far. I will probably end up buying it unless some one recommends
something comparable in price with more features.
Okay, we ran into problems - lol. ALL of the activations were due to two things: moths on the outside of the window and the wind blowing the
branches of the trees that occlude an illuminated bush about 50 yards down the street in another yard. SO! We're going to have to block the window
off at night when the camera is monitoring to prevent those activations. We'll probably either hang a towel or place a piece of paneling in front of
the window.
I've uploaded one snapshot the software took so that I can show you where some of the historical events have taken place.

Okay, you are looking to the west. We have not remodeled the kitchen so you are looking at the only cabinet space I have
. On the left of the
picture you will see a wide shallow drawer just below the countertop. That drawer is where I had placed the fork wrapped up in a towel, and where the
spoon "appeared".
On the right side of the pic you will see a vertical column of 4 drawers. The second drawer from the bottom is the one that I keep my kitchen towels,
dish rags and table cloths in, and that is where Springer's wallet "appeared" after its long absence.
Also, almost dead center in the kitchen window you will see a blue-green glow - that's the illuminated bush down the street. It's causing issues
because it is partially occluded by the branches and leaves of one of our trees, so when the wind blows our tree it causes motion in that occluded
area and it triggers the camera.
We'll get the window blocked off and try again tonight to see if we get any activations with those sources of movement removed.
