There’s a different set of expectations for Trump and Harris, mainly because he runs on not being a “normal” politician, while she leans into it.

I think it is more that every time she opens her mouth, she demonstrates just how stupid she is. She has had a career of mediocrity needing and getting a lot of help along the way. Even as a DA, she was one who only did the easy Pot cases, and old Wille really pushed her career.

Some people on the fence might have thought she was not that bad, then she opened her mouth and so many now are saying holy hell she is as stupid as people say. Harris was +6 to win as Polymarket reported before she started to campaign on the road and do interviews. Yesterday it was 12+ Trump and today it is 17+. The only change to cause all this is simply her talking.

But we have to wonder what would have been said should Kamala Harris had decided to request her playlist and just dance, dance, dance, truffle shuffling about for the best part of half an hour and failing to return to any sort of actual questions?

Need to think that most who go to Trump rallies are old, retired people. The rest of us need to work, take care of kids, etc. I bet he kept going because the old farts loved it. As to Harris, the less talking she does the better for her. Maybe she should have entertainers do 2 hours then she does 10 mins and call it a day. If she did that she might not be -17 points to Trump in the Polymarket.

I bet you buy People Magazine and Entertainment Weekly (and maybe The Star once in a while) when you're in the supermarket checkout.

I see him as an entertainer more than anything else.

You are quite right, and that is the true secret of his success.

Think of him as a screen idol or a pop star and everything that seems mysterious about him when you view him as a politician suddenly becomes transparently clear.

Donald is a superstar. Perhaps the biggest there has ever been in the USA, which of course means the biggest in the world.

MAGA is his fan club. Say something rude about him online and you'll hear a chorus of outrage that sounds exactly like a pack of enraged Swifties flaming dissenters on Instagram or X. You can hear it in this very thread.

I shouldn't be at all surprised.

You do realise, don't you, that big stars, superstars, are monsters created by popular culture. Having failed at being decent human beings, they deny and compensate for their failure by seeking and finding the adoration of the crowd. They usually come to sorry and disgusting ends –– heart attack on the toilet while trying to move their bowels, dead of a drug overdose with a catheter up their penises, naked in a pool of vomit on the floor of their palatial Hollywood boudoir. You know the sort of thing.

You may have heard the phrase 'the madness of crowds'. Superstars are a product of it.

It's a very American thing. Australia doesn't and can't make superstars. Kylie and Mel are about your speed. Lucky you –- and I mean it.

My earlier reply to you was removed by a moderator who (one charitably assumes) misunderstood its contents.

To repeat what I said there: among the 'monsters' I specifically referred to in the post to which you replied were Elvis Presley and Michael Jackson.

I find the thought that these gentlemen were 'leftists' somewhat risible. But perhaps, from an extreme-right perspective, they were.
