You know Josephus was a Jewish historian, born in Jerusalem, who's father was a Jewish Priest...right?
Of course, he learned history from the Torah.

Not the question. You asked:

BTW...WHERE do you think Josephus and other Roman and Greek historians found their material?

Josephus was an historian, not a philosopher or a rabbi. He got his "material" from personal observation, interviews and government records, as he was commissioned by the Romans.

After becoming a Roman citizen, Josephus was commissioned by Caesar Vespasian to write an account of the Jewish revolt against Rome.

For someone who dismisses myth as potential history...you seem to ignore the fact that Josephus also considered himself a Jewish Prophet, who experienced Divine revelations.

As for being "commissioned by the Romans"...Josephus was a captured Jewish soldier, taken as a slave (after the rest of his garrison was massacred by the Roman army) and it was only after he swore allegiance to the Emperor...that he was freed by the Romans.

Think it was in Josephus' best interests to tow the Roman line?

I'm not implying we exclusively force Christianity and the Bible, I'm just saying it should be included. Remember, the schools are letting pornography and grooming material into libraries.

Do you honestly think that would occur, if Christian morality and Common decency was still in the school system?

Do any one of you reading this, honestly believe that it's better to remove Moral guidance, and Values from child development during their formative years?

Solomon’s advice to parents is to “train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it

We see evil, immoral things today, because people have forgotten the Commandments of God. They are not suggestions.

You're able to exercise your free will...do so wisely.

I do not want for any one to be forced in to any thing, ever.
I do want people to have the best honorable and morally correct choices available.

Today's pornotopia and value less society, only leads to the rotting of a Nation.

God would reward us all, for living a moral life.

How many nation's has God punished for being immoral?

The world needs Jesus, Jesus does NOT need the world.

I am a Christian Nationalist, I love Jesus and our Father in Heaven for giving us all another day to repent, and for his grace giving US ALL Free Will.

I don't claim to be better than anyone...
Even as a Christian I fight sin, only in Jesus name am I saved.

I believe children are our future, and personally I want to see them set up for success, not failure.
Spiritual success especially.

Yeah, Josephus was the original George Soros!

Why the need to disrespect the works of Josephus?

I brought him up as an example of someone who is considered an historian.
Remember?

Moses? Not so much.

Opinions are like rotting garbage, every one has some and it all stinks.

I was nine years old, when I started reading a college theology book.

My passion for reading was vast, and once I started studying world religion my mind and imagination flooded with ideas mixed with a unique understanding for a preteen.

I'm 45 now, my understanding of religion is not opinion.

I've read the Koran, many Bibles, been to every religious service except Jewish.

Having been around the world once, my perspective is not singular or based on my hometown experience.

I do not claim to be a worldly person, I am in the world not of it.

When I offer an opinion, it will be clarified as such.

Hopefully this will help us understand one another easier.

I want the best for everyone.

Who's moral guidance? Yours? Isn't moral guidance the purview of the parents?

Why insist on putting the US Constitution in the classroom bible, if you're going to deny its 1st Amendment?

We see evil, immoral things today, because people have forgotten the Commandments of God. They are not suggestions.

And therein lies the problem.

And what does the Bible say about pride?

Romans 12:16 ESV
Live in harmony with one another. Do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly. Never be wise in your own sight.

Proverbs 16:5 ESV /
Everyone who is arrogant in heart is an abomination to the Lord; be assured, he will not go unpunished.

just sayin....

I see that my use of logic and fact to systematically destroy your argument(s) has upset you to the point of resorting to just becoming Silly now.

It appears you've had enough...so we'll just call what was initially a fun discussion...a wrap for today.
Thanks for playing.

Glad you pointed that out.

Never claimed to be wise in my own eyes, just clarifying that my understanding is more than simple opinion.

Only by God's grace and mercy do any of us wake up another day.

Feel free to keep pointing fingers at me though, surely none of you are perfect, which no one of us is.

Only a fool would be so delusional.

In that day the remnant of Israel and the survivors of the house of Jacob will no more lean on him who struck them, but will lean on the Lord, the Holy One of Israel, in truth. A remnant will return, the remnant of Jacob, to the mighty God. For though your people Israel be as the sand of the sea, only a remnant of them will return.

I think the poster was just saying that Josephus was considered the OG PR man for Caesar. He wrote history in such a way that made Romans look cool. Historically he defected, took a Roman name (and Caesar's family name) and helped Titus destroy Jerusalem and the Second Temple. A lot of his works have been critiqued as overtly positive for the Romans and not totally accurate. As to his writing on famous people of the time that had nothing to do with the wars, I have not see anything for or against their accuracy, so they are probably fine.

What difference does it make? I have opinions about Texas, New York and Hawaii as well.

How many of the New York and California haters live there. Their opinions matter as well.

This is why we need to get rid of the Dept. of Education.

If a state wants and elects to have books teaching gay sex for children, then that is their right, it's sick, but that is their right.

If a state wants to have bibles in school, then they can vote for it.

Federalizing education has been the worst thing for children. Since the inception of the Dept. of Education, passing levels have steadily dropped.

What argument is that? That the only ancient record keeping done, was done by Moses and the Judaic prophets? That the first 5 Books of the Bible are just as historically valid as Josephus works?

What exactly is your argument here?

The Iliad was vindicated by actual archeological evidence and cross overs from other sources that pointed right to where Troy and the Trojan wars happened.

The Bible, not so much. We don't even have solid evidence that the temple of Solomon was actually built, or that the isrealites even lived in Egypt for the like 400 some odd years as claimed. It's all stories based around places that existed, but a bit hyperbolic.

Elephant island begs to differ regarding a jewish presence in Egypt.

Yes. I thought my point there was reasonably clear.
