The UK collapsing fast

I've been noticing this in my town, a small market town, for over 20 years. Someone, whoever it is, are succeeding in dumbing down the town. The way I see it is they just want a residential town, no nightlife, not any sort of enjoyment because enjoyment means people out and about. Result, just residents who they know who they are and what they look like, no reason to leave their houses and if strangers appear red flag flies. Very much easier to police (no trouble at all) and control. And if you leave your house the question for them is where are you going and what are you up to.

Sounds like a lot of little villages and market towns in the 80s/early 90s.

No internet and the likes of social media back then through covent in the manner in which it is today.

Just loads of elderly women out scrubbing their steps and gossiping at all angles.

Everybody's business was out in the open, and halfway around the village or scheme, in two shakes of a Lambs tail as soon as a few old dears decided to hang their washing on the line.

When my mother was born Britain controlled the greatest empire the world has ever seen. My mother in her lifetime bearing she is still alive, has watched and lived in Britain going from the above to what it is today. Heading towards a failed state. In one living generation !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Everything is falling apart and our last chance of being in a bloc of relevance (the EU) has been cast aside by the idiots who were allowed to vote on the issue. The same idiots have now been allowed to vote in a socialist government who will end the idea of foreign investment into the UK and finish off our nation. Unbelievable the pace of this collapse.

The UK has many problems and the UK has many faults.....but the UK is far from being finished.

Strange how so many of these 'the UK is doomed', 'the UK is evil incarnate' or 'the UK runs the world' etc threads are started by non-UK members who seem to have a bit of an obsession about the UK.

I invite others to replace "UK" with "US, and think on this post in reflection to some from other nations that continually post here about US politics as if they were directly involved/benefiting from those posts.

In the past, the Police only had to ask, and the public would generally be happy to facilitate them with everything they wanted to know, at least where ""naughty people"" were concerned, which was a big positive.

But local community policing is a thing of the past or so it seems to me.

No trust where the police are concerned these days, you dont know them, and they dont know you.

Is it really any wonder people are apprehensive where police are concerned?

They still have a job to do through, and the fact of the matter is without police the nation would tear itself apart.

Good and bad sorts in all walks of life which is possibly something for you to consider.

In absolute agreement with you; I'm certain that despite all its faults and problems - and we all know there are plenty of both - the US is NOT about to fall apart anytime soon.
And I'm also a damned sight certain that generally speaking its a far better place to live than most.....exactly the same as the UK is despite all our issues.

Please tell tell me how two threads asking if secession of the states is a possibility and one asking if Iran gaining nuclear weapon capability is similar to The Second Amendment are anything remotely like saying the US is evil incarnate, the US is doomed or the US controls the world.

Please look at those threads and tell me how it shows obsessive behaviour with the US.

And bear in mind, that's 3 threads in 17 years of being a member here on ATS.
Hardly obsessive by my reckoning.

And yes, I do contribute to the odd US themed thread but I suspect if someone were to do a deep dive on the percentage of my posts being in US themed threads compared to non-US themed threads it'd be relatively low considering the abundance of US themed threads here on ATS.

Our Royals and us Brits rule the World and own and run the US economy, military etc.

I know this because I read it on ATS.

Here, a massive amount of Pubs have closed, mainly due to COVID but also due to it being much cheaper to drink at home.

And the rise in popularity of home cooking thanks to TV progs like MasterChef.

I wouldn't write us off yet, though.
