It's not really ALL the American people. It's the 20% of voters in the middle. I'm the one she needs to convince of her border policy. And I think the better late than never bipartisan effort was fine. Maybe lower the closure trigger criteria, but that's about it. Keep it. Clear amnesty backlog. Works for me.

She had no border reform policy until she had one, now if she plans to keep that in place it could be enough for those in the middle. She learned her lesson on lax enforcement. You won't buy it, but swing voters might. It will appeal to the same type of Republicans who co-sponsored the bill.

She WAS terrible on the border, now she's reformed with a bipartisan effort. She need only tout that bill *BECAUSE* It's not trying to convince the HARDEST to sway you're up to challenge at the border, but the EASIEST.

I've been peppered with calls from the national media about my "relationship" with Kamala Harris, particularly since it became obvious that she was going to fun for president. Most of them, I have not returned. Yes, we dated. It was more than 20 years ago. Yes, I may have influenced her career by appointing her to two state commissions when I was Assembly speaker. And I certainly helped with her first race for district attorney in San Francisco. I have also helped the careers of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Gov. Gavin Newsom, Sen. Dianne Feinstein and a host of other politicians. The difference is that Harris is the only one who, after I helped her, sent word that I would be indicted if I "so much as jaywalked" while she was D.A. That's politics for ya.
