Former President Donald Trump told a group of evangelicals they "cannot afford to sit on the sidelines" of the 2024 election, imploring them at one point to "go and vote, Christians, please!"

Trump also endorsed displaying the Ten Commandments in schools and elsewhere while speaking to a group of politically influential evangelical Christians in Washington on Saturday. He drew cheers as he invoked a new law signed in Louisiana this week that makes it the first state to require the Ten Commandments be displayed in every public school classroom.

I'm sure The Satanic Temple will be all over this in no time. Booking the flight 2 days ago.

I know "the government" doesn't necessarily refer to the states, but this seems like a blatent move to make a specific doctrine compulsory. Could they just as easily enforce The Lord's Prayer after The Pledge of Allegience?

Do states have the right to instill a theocracy. Is that exempt from the first ammendment? Will they have to allow the winged transgender goat have a poster too?

I'm all for free religious practice and states rights, but this seems destined for The Supreme Court. I can't wait for the argument how "The State (of Louisiana) Establishing a religion" is constitutional.

So I'm gonna ask it, because compulsory religion troubles me, does making America great again, also mean making America Christian again? And if so, would this be happening if it wasn't for the attempted woke normalization.

Is 10 Commandments in every classroom a round-about response to 38 genders?

I fully support Trump on this issue. Moreover, I hope that this will become a trend and fashion trend in America. Brothers, Russia is with you! For freedom!

So when a first grader asks, "What is adultery", should the teacher explain it's when Trump has sex on his third wife with a porn star and then pays hush money to cover it up to win an election?

And yes, I would expect other religions to sue the State to get access to the same "audience" that Christians seem to want to convert.

And we fought a revolution to escape this EXACT THING.

I find it odd that the Constitution and the Bill of Rights can be totally shredded over the last few years, but then there is an issue when Trump supports a law that would be against the Constitution.

Americans need to make their minds up to be for keeping and adhering to the Constitution or not.
Right now, it is just being used when convenient and ignored when convenient.

I find it odd that ANYONE would find this a good idea.

We all know this opens up a HUGE can of worms. Just like overturning Roe V Wade.

But CHAOS is all Republicans have to offer. Well, except for hate.

Oh no!

We can't expose our children to any kind of code of ethics, that would be terrible.

Definitely stick to letting guys in thongs and clown makeup shake their asses in the kids faces instead.

Just as I disagree with states teaching 5 y.o.s about being gay and the joys of sex, I disagree with the premise that the 10 commandments should be in schools too. Just as teaching the Koran. Or a satanic statue in a public building. Etc etc.

I imagine it opens the doors for a lawsuit based on a child of a different religion reporting to Mom and Dad. Discrimination and such.

I wonder if they’ll try and keep it secret the way they do when co-opting your child’s sexuality.

Regardless. On premise and basis alone. This ain’t cool.

But then again state’s rights.

Sure has gotten extreme in the US with regards to beliefs.

So you would have no problem if Michigan passed a law requiring the Five Pillars of Islam to be displayed in every classroom?

I remember codes of ethics. And the pledge. And colored discipline cards for correcting behavior.

I would have objected to the 10 commandments.

The Establishment Clause applies to the states just as much as it does the federal government. The ACLU is already working on a lawsuit.

This law will never go into effect. A stay will be placed on it while the case works its way through the courts before being struck down for being blatantly unconstitutional.

Personally I would use Bill Clinton.

Different strokes for different folks.

Speaking of laws with kids and education.

Why are states like Hawaii allowing the government to steal your child and force them to have gender reassignment?

Is this okay?

Seems pertinent to familial beliefs and rights.

Does the ACLU only work against religious interests?

Just curious.

Sure, have them posted next to each other. But the pillars of Islam aren't a code of ethics, they're instructions for activities.

I'm not religious at all, but there's nothing offensive about the 10 commandments.

Lots of kids today have never been told not to lie, cheat, or steal and it shows.

I agree to a degree.

But if the state wants kids to know them, then mandate church and become a theocracy already.

Otherwise tax-payers have a case for not paying taxes to schools that endorse a certain relationship to a certain god.

The ACLU currently has over 1400 ongoing cases covering a wide variety of issues.

In The Courts

Where in the Louisiana law does it allow for doctrines from other religions to be hung in public classrooms?

This is a clear violation of the Establishment Clause.

That’s not what I asked.

Are they suing the US government on behalf of parents that have, been charged by Uncle Sam for child neglect, had CPS kidnap their child and mutilate their genitalia?

A bit more specific. But thanks in advance.

Considering the state is 34 in literacy or thereabouts they better hope the weans can read the posters.

Of all the things taxpayer's money is getting spent on, some posters telling kids not to lie, cheat, or steal is the least egregious.
