Looking at the stats (26,765,939 posts, 1,325,279 threads and 367,151 members) and assuming some record sizes we get, for example:
With an average of 7,600 bytes per post, 1,000 per thread and 1,000 per member
7,600 x 26,765,939 + 1,000 x 1,325,279 + 1,000 x 367,151 = 191 GB

It's possible the 8TB number was inferred out of discussions of the -- at the time -- capabilities of the bare metal server(s) hosting the site. We had, at the time, an 8TB RAID0 array partitioned for maximum performance.

There are a number of relational tables that make (at the time) display of content as quick as possible, so that needs to be factored into the total size. The last time I looked, the total of all the db tables was approaching 500GB. That's not counting uploaded images.

Well, it wasn't a "lot of money."

From what I knew at the time, the new owner had multiple business interests and was a long-time fan of ATS and had a heartfelt desire to see it live and improve the underpinnings. For the first few months, I was helping with insight as the new tech team came to grips with ATS, and progress seemed highly probable.

My best guess is that one or more of the other business interests took priority.

Before I became active on ATS, I was semi-active on RumorMillNews. Before that, ConspiracyZone on CompuServe. While contemporary conspiracy debate has sunk deep into a poisoned well, thanks to social media, one thing has always remained the same: conspiracy buzz always appeared to come from the opposite political affiliation of the current oval office occupant.

Until Trump, that is. Trump was/is a wrecking ball.

Do you regret the addition of the dedicated political forums on ATS in hindsight? I, like many others, feel that's where we went south. It started with ATSNN and kinda spiraled out of control after that. Although there was some politically tense moments even before that on ATS. Freemason and Colonel might have killed each other too had they actually met.

No.

Politics had already poisoned too many other forums. It was a way to provide a separation between politics and conspiracies.

What I regret is that conspiracy-minded people couldn't see the political game for what it was.

I dont think we are sinking.. Someone is keeping us up and running...not only that we are add free and have less censorship than every before. There is a lot happening in the world these dates. ATS is an information portal.

What duplicate? The list shows three posts made by that member on that thread and the thread does have three posts by that member.

Let's suppose 5/18 comes and goes and the website is still up and running, and renewed -- I need to know who the money is coming from before I volunteer any more participation here.

I guess I can wait two more months and see if there is a new owner, or if the real ownership continues to operate from the dark. That's not good enough for me. I need to follow the money first so I understand the agenda.

Why? I'm curious. Who cares who pays for the sites fees as long as I can freely use it to post and read as I see fit.

I guess I can wait two more months and see if there is a new owner, or if the real ownership continues to operate from the dark. That's not good enough for me. I need to follow the money first so I understand the agenda.

The only agendas that remain viable must account for the total abandonment of the site by the owners. The proposterous "follow the money" claim made ignores that there is no money to follow and the site has barely paid the bills for years. The obvious implication that were supposed to read into this whole thread is that the ownership is now evil right wing extremists.

It's no coincidence that this moral stand against participation happened in the midst of them letting their own mask slip and revealing their agenda for being on the site.

In effect they said they were just here to educate ignorant evil Republicans. That's not what good faith discussion is based on, but is what political activists do. Their "participation" is not in good faith. Their post history is full of condescending political propaganda and hypocrisy that started long before this sock or these owners, so their history offers little evidence in their defense. I let them know that their statement wouldn't just be forgotten. Their disgust for the site is so great that they had to admit they were not here legitimately to distance themselves from it. That's not something we should forget.

I doubt they'll resume posting unless their desire for global censorship is realized and their past statements are no longer fair game for use in hamstringing their agenda. What all fans of censorship covet the most is its ability to silence criticism and remove discussion of their past statements.

People that advocate for sites like this to be shut down and for my opinions to be criminalized can lie to themselves about their moral high ground, but they shouldn't act suprised when they're no longer taken seriously or their reputation suffers for it. Dishonesty is not a political position and those that use dishonest tactics are obviously not trying to advance an honest discussion of their political positions.

I hope 2024 continues to be a year where propagandists and liars are metaphorically castrated in full public view. Let their impotence be a lesson to others that dishonesty and bad faith are never winning propositions.
