If we are to take everything told to us at face value, then if they risked the capital involved in the purchasing of ATS, only to lose it then their pockets must be pretty deep.

Deeper than say hocking crystals to an audience that may be interested.

It was stated that the new owner is a huge BC profiteer.

Doesn’t surprise me that they lost interest. Probably on a yacht somewhere.

Years back, there were several posters that heavily invested in BC when it was low, and spoke about it here.

We could probably find them by looking at old posts. Because I highly doubt the person that bought the place was not a member previously.

What I cannot understand is someone buying this place to let it die !! Especially with the amount it takes to pay for just the operational costs then add on the purchase price and a easy 200k , something tells me that person has a lot more than a few million to their name .

Maybe a Musk ,Gates ,Zuckerberg type

It really is sad to see it all go up in smoke. 22 years is a hell of a mark to make on internet history.

It sure is.....I'd love to see some stats on that myself.

How many similar datasets in size and active contributors are there? Not many is my guess.

In a social simulation the subversives are the hardest.

Their dataset is least accessible, and making up a very small percentage of the population.

We were all aware that our data has become a valuable asset, long before ATS was sold, we just didn't understood what for.
Hint: it was for training AI. That crap was worth alot in the initial stages of AI training.
Like with resources, price rise when supply is low, and ATS sold around the time you'd think the mainstream datasets had been mapped, and they went for the precious metals...

All this makes for a very profitable moment to sell it, money has motivated the most dedicated to sellnout...

What if the end of this site coincided with most things discussed here being true and divulged and no need for the site any longer
. I lurked a long time before I joined. This is going to suck. I’m hoping someone has an ATS 2.0 in the works or whatnot, a big part of me is going to be lost

I remember back in 2010 - 2012 time on this site and we were discussing AI being loose on the boards back then with stupid nonsensical posts popping up all over the shop , even a foreign poster could not come across like what was being posted back then .

If they rolled it out to Joe public how long did they have it ? I remember a poster here talking about AI at his work NASA ? & and it would have been 20 years ago that he was talking about and it did not seem a great deal to him , it was like I have Google on my phone kind of deal .

But I do notice how ownership of a few CT sites seem to have changed hands very quietly and the new owner pretending to be the old owner , or the owner just up and vanished ?? .

Strange days ahead dude , maybe time to go grey

A source with different opinions about a topic is not good for AI, AI needs consistent data to give consistent results.

And bumping threads that are a day old,
and 'conveniently' dropping threads that don't fit
with with CIA IDF agendas.
ALL programmed AI,
OBVIOUS
AND who do they say owns this site ?
just asking

Bump ... LoL !!

JK.

I have a memory, don't know how true it is, of a time just before the sale of ATS over a year ago.
In this memory : one of the three original owners, said that they would not sell, unless they had confidence in the new ownership.
And then they mentioned, that they indeed did have confidence in the new ownership.

If that memory is accurate : then at least one of the ex-owners, has some measure of knowledge of the new owners.
So please, without telling us whom they are, just fricken poke them, and tell them to get-off their arses, and sell it to someone who cares.

Maybe they have to poke a lawyer, whom will have to poke another lawyer, whom can then poke the new owners.
How much does it cost to poke a lawyer in 2024 ?

Thank-you, and good wishes of peace.

Last time I checked, £250 an hour and that was for a fairly mediocre solicitor but you'd be looking at something around that to write a snotty letter BUT you'd have to have a legal basis on which to poke. Are the owners actually doing anything wrong - in the legal sense?

Not anymore. There was a brief period after the passwords were disabled that even mods couldn't log in to moderate, when 18+ porn was inappropriately posted on a site that's supposed to be for ages 13+. But after a few days of that, the mods got their accounts restored, and the porn was then removed, apparently.

I do remember the old owners saying a major criterion for selecing the new owners is that they needed to feel confident the new owners would take good care of the site. Somehow, it seems that objective failed to be realized for some reason.

I should probably start archiving some of the best threads here, because this site has a treasure trove of information that's not readily available elsewhere on the internet. If the site goes down for good, I will feel the loss of access to that information.

As much as it pains me to say this, it s not "if", but "when".

I did mean currently but fair point there was a short time when rules were being broken. Personally, I thought the porn was the least of it but as an LLC the site would be subject to the laws of the state that that was registered in, so the porn may factor, but also the hate speech, sexual harassment and threats of sexual violence. However someone would have to idntify as the victim, make a complaint and a statement. While I am sure many of us took screenshots during that period and since, otherwise most of those incidents have been deleted, including the porn. Do the Mods keep records of violations that may be criminal or have criminal intent? Are any of those who took screenshots willing to go public and serve as witnesses in a case against the owners for a failure of over-sight? Especially given that there is a disclaimer on the site stating, or words to the effect, that the views of members do not reflect those of the owners etc.

Unless it was in the contract that both parties signed it doesn't matter what the expectations were and if they were disappointed.

Best of luck with that and with wherever life takes you once this ship has sunk. I have enjoyed your contributions.

All the best

ATS is doing weird things on the 'recent' listing. It's saying that threads have been active in the past ___ minutes (put a low number in), when in fact it had been many hours since someone had posted in the thread. It's been doing it for a few days. I've never seen this before. Weirdness.
