The current state of ATS should make you cry.

Yes, then again, not really.

When regular members were "up-in-arms" over attempts to shame them, in a humorous way, for block ads and hence, income, that was the beginning of the end. It was a full-on gut-punch wake up call for me.

That being said, given pre-sale conversations about ATS, and post-sale assistance offered the buyer's tech person -- the current state is highly unexpected.

ATS is definitely on the way out......
There is NO ONE in charge. NO owner. No IT guy. No one to call or email.
So, either the day the domain $$ is due, or the day the server $$ is due, or any day a hacker come through. Or a glitch when the database crumbles further.

Could be today.

To remain true to oneself.

It’s like a zookeeper who loves the zoo and its animals… you promised to look after them; if the zoo is destined to shut down, you will continue your work until the last day, and not just say, sod it, and let the animals eat each other.

I was once a supermod on a different site for ten years… it becomes a part of you and that sense of duty and responsibility doesn’t subside, if anything, it becomes even more ingrained and unwaivable… even if unrewarded and often spat upon by others.

lol, I remember the ads days. It's to bad ATS peaked before things like patreon and twitch they might have been able to fund the whole thing on memberships and donations and still have had the basic forum as ad free content.

It's fairly easy to keep them separate, at least for oneself: Staff aren't allowed to moderate in any threads in which they participate. When staff moderates, they do so as measured against the T&Cs, not their own views.

There's no one in charge of the asylum anymore.. I love the staff and as far as I'm concerned, they can do whatever makes them happy.

Not allowed by ourselves, in reverence of a pure place that once occupied this space. The current ATS staff are presumably the last generation. We have all lived and operated by rules whose primary base was: Consensus of staff in accord with the T&Cs. That prevented rogue operators from actioning things personally, and it encouraged us all to discuss actions. We have always been an eclectic group, and to use consensus to determine actions ALWAYS errs on the side of the member. That is, it requires egregious posts for the most part to elicit a moderator action.

Those of us still here, do the job in honor and reverence of a damn near holy place that once was. It was sold to someone who treated it as a toy, and threw it away out of impatience. I will never forgive you SO, for having spit upon this place that you created and once honored.
