Here is the exact law. Lake does not meet the definition of public official.

18 U.S. Code § 201 - Bribery of public officials and witnesses
and yet the law doesn't specify that anyone involved must be a public official.

BTW, that's called a strawman.

It’s astonishing how quickly these clowns will condone crooked, or at the very least, unethical sh!t when it goes against people they don’t like.

I would think that whether it’s criminal bribery or not depends on who the ‘people back east’ are.
If they are politicians or a foreign government it’s going to be very ugly.
We need names.

I don't care what the GOP does to burn their own party to the ground. Just pointing out that bribery is only a crime in certain instances. This is not one of those times.

Bribery Law
The criminal offense of bribery involves offering or giving something of value to another person, usually a public official. The purpose of the conduct usually must be:

To influence that person in their official capacity;
To induce them to do something illegal or allow something illegal to occur; or
To induce them to do or omit to do anything else that would violate the law or contradict their official duties.
Many definitions of bribery also include what might be described as the reverse situation, when a public official solicits or demands something of value in exchange for an official act. It also applies to efforts to influence jurors and people who are preparing to give testimony under oath.

Bribery bears some resemblance to the crime of blackmail, since both are often intended to influence the actions of others. The difference is in the means used. Blackmail, much like extortion, involves the use of threats to influence someone’s actions. Bribery achieves its aims by giving, offering, or promising something of value. Once a bribery scheme is underway, the person giving the bribes could turn to blackmail by threatening to reveal the prior acceptance of bribes.

Sorry but a Justia link giving a brief overview of bribery law does not trump the actual law in question.

By the way, from your link:

The federal bribery statute prohibits individuals, businesses, and others from “giv[ing], offer[ing] or promis[ing] anything of value” to a public official, or someone who is awaiting final approval to a government position, in order to influence him or her in carrying out official duties. It also prohibits public officials from seeking anything of value in exchange for influence.

so the law you quoted is THE bribery law, and all bribery charges fall under that law? Or is the law you cited SPECIFIC to elected officials?

Yea, that part is also problematic for the DERP brigade. If there is only one law for Bribery, and the only way bribery is a crime is when elected officials are involved, there might be some trouble with the elected officials that forced Jeff to pressure Keri through a bribe to drop out. Sure hope they aren't dems.

But your lack of integrity won’t let you admit that the offer of money to keep Lake from running is shady AF, if not a crime.

It is one of two federal statutes pertaining to bribery. The other one, as your own link points out, pertains to bribery of government-funded programs, which clearly doesn't apply here.

that is a relief. Since it could be construed that Keri pressured Jeff with the threat of releasing more damning recordings. She is in the clear! Thanks to you.

Not necessarily. Blackmail falls under a different statute. If there's evidence of Dewit comitting a crime in the remaining recordings and Lake told him she would release it unless he resigned, then she would be guilty of blackmail.

Isn't SAF the basis for Donny's entire platform?

This whole thing is shady... And a lot of it is coming from the side of Ms. Lake. It stinks of Project Veritas

I guess we'll see. Or, at least - some of us will

How do you figure that?

America First is only shady to the people that hate America.

Let me ask you a question: what is it about America that you love?

With the Democrats in charge, there’s not much to love at the moment.

I know having an actual conversation with people you don't like is difficult, but sometimes it's worth the effort
