I would REALLY suggest that EVERYONE go on YouTube and watch the K. Lake trial. It is like two or three hours long and not the least bit boring. The majority of the trial is one witness, the 3rd party monitor from out of state who watched our election carefully. Here is the trial:

Monitor: We have concluded out investigation and discovered that one single sheet of paper would clear this entire thing up. I asked for the paper yesterday and they said they would fax it right to me. After not receiving it, I called again to the sole person alive with access to that paper. I got her answering machine which had been changed to a message saying, "I just left town on an unexpected long vacation." I conclude that there is NO REASON to withhold that paper OTHER than cheating the election.

Judge: Well, we needed that evidence today, no later. So I find there was nothing suspicious about the election ::bang bang::

According to him, it's the chapter where Kari Lake extorted him to resign.

In a statement released by the Arizona GOP, DeWit accused Lake of leaking the audio from nearly a year ago, which he called “selectively edited,” to a conservative radio host. And DeWit claimed, without providing evidence, that Lake’s team told him it would release another recording if he didn’t step down.

“I am truly unsure of its contents,” DeWit said of the alleged recording. “But considering our numerous past open conversations as friends, I have decided not to take the risk. I am resigning as Lake requested, in hope that she will honor her commitment to cease her attacks, allowing me to return to the business sector — a field I find much more logical and prefer over politics.”

what if is a children's game. the situation is what it is. The facts are what they are. Your inability to deal with the reality of it is very apparent, but a bit confusing to us as spectators. Why is it accountability a bad thing?? When/If this happens in the Democrat party, would you want there to be accountability for such transgressions by one party onto another??

I think this is a Kari Lake publicity stunt, like the time her campaign reported a "suspicious white powder" in an envelope.

But anyway, offering someone money not to run for office isn't illegal.

It's got more of a "The Housewives of ..." kinda vibe to me.

I have to refine my previous statement having learned its an edited tape (a year old) and not technically a bribe.

But the part about being deliberately leaked to give her that line at the end is still looking likely.

So he resigns for something not illegal and then levels a back-handed concession where he insinuates blackmail and deception on her part? What's going on?

This is something that never has to really be pursued, and ultimately gives her a PR boost. Which may be by design.

She seems very much a product of the TV News industry. This just screams newsroom politics, which are, "Get in my way, bitch? I will send you to weekend daytime special interest pieces. I have that video of you, remember?"

They have a tendency to win, and all hell usually breaks loose if they don't. She is that one woman you don't cross at work, because nothing gets in their way. There are many of those in media in general. And this is the application of that translating to politics. Which goes far being one in the same.

That's my refined position for now.

Bribery is only a crime if the person you're bribing is a public official or a witness in a court case. Lake is neither.

paralegal school didn't do you very well sport.

Bribery Law
The criminal offense of bribery involves offering or giving something of value to another person, usually a public official. The purpose of the conduct usually must be:

To influence that person in their official capacity;
To induce them to do something illegal or allow something illegal to occur; or
To induce them to do or omit to do anything else that would violate the law or contradict their official duties.
Many definitions of bribery also include what might be described as the reverse situation, when a public official solicits or demands something of value in exchange for an official act. It also applies to efforts to influence jurors and people who are preparing to give testimony under oath.

Bribery bears some resemblance to the crime of blackmail, since both are often intended to influence the actions of others. The difference is in the means used. Blackmail, much like extortion, involves the use of threats to influence someone’s actions. Bribery achieves its aims by giving, offering, or promising something of value. Once a bribery scheme is underway, the person giving the bribes could turn to blackmail by threatening to reveal the prior acceptance of bribes.

Here is the exact law. Lake does not meet the definition of public official.

18 U.S. Code § 201 - Bribery of public officials and witnesses
