I just want to highlight this sentence.
THAT right there is BAMN in a nutshell. ANY shady, sneaky, under-the-table deal is A-OK because it's an "attempt to salvage this country". Salvage according to their ideology. It doesn't matter how much you have to debase yourself or toss out what little morality you have, it's all for a "good" cause.
