Does the punishment fit the crime?

Are they going to try and flush her?

I had a miscarriage in a toilet -- have you?

Okay?

How is this relevant?

It's relevant because there's hormonal craziness going on and you aren't thinking clearly.

I would have flushed the fetus if my husband had not retrieved it.

I bet this happens hundreds of times a day across the world.

Again, I am not absolving this woman -- but how it was handled.

Did you read the link in the OP? For the 3rd time, she went to the hospital twice. The hospital stated her water had already broken.

“This fetus was going to be non-viable. It was going to be non-viable because she had premature ruptured membranes — her water had broken early — and the fetus was too young to be delivered,” Sterbenz said.

You do not realize that women are sent home all of the time to miscarry?

The pathologist confirmed the fetus was dead before passing through the mother.

States with restrictive abortion bans are making these and life threatening situations more common. Hospitals are afraid of being charged or sued. This woman should have received a medical abortion at the hospital when it was determined to be a non viable fetus.

So you think the prosecutor is liberal?
And they saw this as a test case to challenge Roe?
Election year Tom foolery type of stuff?

It makes no sense to prosecute her with what we know?
By the reactions here, which are all political, it looks like this case is a political motivated story.
It makes no sense to prosecute her.
I see no prolife challenges here.

Don't know. Is there some sort of protocol that you are supposed to follow?

The hospital sent her to deal with it at home. There was no birth of a baby.

I'm furious that anyone thinks abortion is any of their business in the first place -- unless it's their own.

How many aborted fetuses do you think get flushed down the toilet? Plenty, I'm sure.

I just by accident looked down and saw mine floating in the toilet. I didn't think to fish it out. My husband did.

I am also surprised when i murder a person and get charged.

I mean its no ones business but mine if i decide to kill someone.

Fascists running this country just wont let me have my autonomy.

Take it up with yourself.

My business is not your business.

No I don't think it's a challenge at all. I think it's a bad decision.

Ohio has been trying to pass a law to require burial or cremation for all fetuses. No matter the gestation. So, burial of a 6 week fetus would be required if miscarried. They could then charge if you can't find the 1 inch fetus in the toilet among the blood and mucus. It's just another way to make women suffer emotionally.

Exactly! My decision to murder someone shouldnt be anyone elses business but mine!

Where does the government get off telling me murder is wrong! Its a personal choice and they need to stay out of it!

Finally we agree!

Now maybe we can unite in our mutual love of dead people and stop these crazies who are trying to curb our right to autonomy!

Let me get this right, she went to the hospital twice and was told the baby is dead and was sent home where she miscarried a 22 week old baby into the toilet which she tried to flush and clogged the toilet.

Police show up and arrest her for abusing a corpse.

Miscarriage is a bodily function for women. So that isn’t the reason for her arrest and isn’t the focus.

The focus is the mishandling of a 22 week old baby that by law is considered a baby for the sake of abusing a corpse.

Now someone muddied the waters with who is allowed by law to abuse a corpse…..think autopsies or a coroner when talking about who is allowed by law.

Back on topic, the argument is;

Is a 22 week old baby any more or less a corpse than a 21 week old baby and what business is it of the law if this is a miscarriage, a normal bodily function to expel what the body doesn’t want.

Let the law figure it out not political leanings and definitely not about who you vote for.

She deserves her day in court with a jury of her peers and in this case they will most likely see it for what it is, a miscarriage.

The social media jury sucks on anything like this. Opinions, political leanings and pure hatred of one side for the other are a poison to the system.

It must be nice to live in a state where the crime rate is so low that the justice system can expend their resources on something like this.

"Well, what have we got today? No murders, drug deals, illegal immigrants, or anything else? Hey, how about going after an emotionally vulnerable woman who just had a miscarriage on a technicality. That'll show that we're tough on crime."

So who called the cops?
The plumber?
I have to admit that would be gross.

I feel for her loss but it was handled extremely poorly.
One could argue criminally.

Wtf you expect her to do? Pay for a funeral?

Her handling of the baby shows she was pro abortion. There was no love for a lost child.

The vast majority of miscarriages go down the toilet.

You live in a state where drug deals and illegal immigration are still investigated?

I know here those things ( along with the "anything "else) have ,mostly, been done away with.

How do we define that?

It seems to me the "bad" part of this case is that the community i.e. a plumber, apartment handyman, neighbors, landlord, who knows who, had to deal with the gore of a dead fetus in their pipes.

It's all so strange as to why the hospital wouldn't do it. What is a person supposed to do, throw it away, or bury it in the backyard? IDK, but the scene must have looked rather heinous when the cops showed up as to whatever she did.
