It actually kind of IS simple, I'm afraid.

Humans are tribalistic, because we're hormonal, dumb apes.

If you give people a group identity,
they will fight other groups for supremacy until only 1 group remains,
then the people who didn't like that group will multiply in secret and revolt and create other groups again,
then the cycle repeats.

We need to abolish political parties completely, for starters, and have politicians run solely on issues.
We also need to understand and accept, as a species, that we are apes, and our
natural state is to be against others and be divisive instead of compromise or agree.

Having teams and identity politics only supercharges our worst nature.

I am beginning to highly respect you.

I am sitting here listening to a certain podcast, that shall remain nameless (for now), the host and their guest brought up a phenomenal point.

When did this country turn to insults/death threats/threats of violence/acts of violence/etc., when you find out that someone else supports the opposite political party as you?

Might I suggest, as a "starting point" that you go back 50 years, or so, and consider the first utterance of the following:

"...Jane, you ignorant slut..."?

Then consider the resultant tenor of public discourse, and debate, in the intervening years since.

Question for electtion 2024, is Gavin Newsom satanic? Or is he just possesed by him?

Newsome is a fool of corruption, low hanging fruit for satan to exploit further for sure, and this plays out matching how far he destroyed California in lives and job losses to his quite evil actions.

And yet there are tons of idiots out there rooting for him like lemmings floundering in their own waste. That's a devil inspired thing if ever there was one.
He cleaned up San Francisco only when it was to impress a litany of communists coming to visit the other day as well. Truly a pathetic and quite evil man.

Who has time for individual values and beliefs?
Westerners that's who, and it's not exactly a phenomena with a lot of history.
Times change, people change.

Xtrozero says it was Obama and AI, he might be right but I'd like to push it back to 9/11 (at least) and the Patriot act. I believe Ben Franklin has a famous quote about scenarios just like that.

Yeah, the president holds power, but it is perceived power, not real/actual power.

I could argue the same illusion surrounds choice too but I'll probably end up blabbering about the human condition. Fact is you do have a choice and you always did. We live in an overly complex world just so power is contained but Plato said law is not needed for responsible people, I'd tend to agree with that qoute so I'm left wondering if the average person is just irresponsible or bad. The answer is as nuanced and subjective as saying how powerful is a head of state.

Nailed it.
What you quoted was some of the first comedy where you could get away with bar room talk like that.
Advance it throught the years, an now it is totally ok in the news to call someone a cocksucker or a #ing asshole, and sometimes, it does not even get beeped.

We have become tolerant of vile talk, and turn around and repeat it to others, as if it is ok.
Well... it is not
Now , we have to live with it, as everyone has a tolerance level of what they will allow someone to say about them or just drop it.... Very few drop it, and some pull out guns.

"Vile talk" has become, paradoxically, the latest "virtue signal".

Any pushback against what once would have been considered unconscionable utterances is now condemned as attacks on the "right of free speech".

It's easy, Obama brought out hardcore racists from the woodworks because they couldn't handle a well spoken black man run the country. Then the right went super far right in the Trump era, even having neo Nazis at the rallies and not denouncing it.

So when you're saying a blue and a red at a bar, it's going to be the red one acting up, in fact there's 1000's of video clips of them doing this. That guy Tizzy busts them all the time.

I think that over simplifies it a bit. Yes, we are apes. But, we also have developed a higher sense of self than our furrier cousins. In nature banding together and fighting as one means survival. For humans it means the opposite.

That is quite an arrogant assumption.

What humans have is a written history.

Wish we were better at learning from it.

When I was growing up, yes you had people who were die hard for one side or the other, but it was never like it is now, at least from what I saw and remember.

How old were you during the Vietnam War and the Summer of Love? Kent State? How old were you when Malcom X, Martin Luther King Jr, Robert and John F Kennedy were assassinated? Selma, Birmingham, New York, Chicago, Watts racial conflict?

Somethings just don't change.
