I mean, not to sound dismissive but without the divine spark of conciousness we're just meatsuits.

Since we don't understand the origins of consciousness and the mystery of the mind it's possible these clones might turn out to be nothing but living creatures that just perform the phsyiological functions and operations of a organic lifeform.

In short, living breathing creatures that do nothing but perform biological functions and stare off into space.

The mystery of conciousness still eludes me, it comes from a place and methodology that I am still too primitive to understand, but I can theorize and speculate in a scifi context.

It's kind of like the Jewish Mysticism of creating a gollum, a synthetic creation that becomes host to a spirit or consciousness that can be controlled by the magical practitioner.

Personally, I think human cloning has been in operation for some time, how else do you explain the visual similarities between different people in different aspects of the populace.

Construction workers all have a similiar physiology, almost as if they were created by the designer with the phsyical attributes to handle the work involved,, not to mention the mental aptitude to complete the task.

People with certain genetic traits all seem to gravitate towards destinies that align with their physical characteristics and you can't deny that certain people exhibiting certain traits are given a greater degree of preferance and end up in certain positions based primarily on their looks.

Folks to don't live up to certain genetic expectations (down syndrome, severe birth defects or looking different from the accepted conception of beauty) usually have to be "hidden from sight" because there is a large segment of the population who views them as undesirables or abominations that should be exterminated.

Because human genetics are so unpredictable, it would not suprise me that there is an ideology of some who would prefer genetic manipulation to create a standard and uniform base line system of humans who are specifically designed for specific functions without room for error, and since they have no consiousness or divine spark, abborations and genetic misfits could be disposed of without ethical consequence. It has no spirit, no soul, it's defective.

It's complicated because in a way it's taking things out of the natural process and refining it to where there are no physical defects or abnormalities, but what about the consciousness that "gets installed" or inhabits the creation?

I'm more concerned about the psychology of these beings and whatever consciousness decides to inhabit the meat and animate it.

There is nothing worse than a beautiful sociopath.

and on, and on, and on,

When the only one talking about trans is you.

Until you started, I didn't loose a word about trans, and have mentioned it three times since.

You are obviously obsessed with it.... A quick look at your posting history paints a clear picture...

I've seen this movie.

It didn't end well.

Me too & it was entertaining to watch , but would be a nightmare in reality.
Nothing will stop the steady march towards the machine & it’s renditions of life .
Transhumanism is not good .
Your post made me laugh.
Im sure any future lab grown embryos will be given a right to life ?
Im old & am past my midlife & hope sense will prevail in the future , but I contributed & what the new generations do with it is their thing .

because these are not actually embryos

Why not?

What's diffrent between a textbook embryo and this?

You have to wonder what would happen if this Non Human Biological Entity went full term and then grew up?

Sounds like a "tank" from "Space Above & Beyond".

Your lack of understanding is mildly amusing.

A chromosome is a long DNA molecule with part or all of the genetic material of an organism.

en.wikipedia.org...

Without chromesomes genetic material won't reproduce. Until they develop a Z chromesome we're stuck with the good ol' X and Y.

Ya Turnip!

We could make human replicator ships in the future that travel around by AI control and fling out humans on every planet in the universe, cool, oh and robots and computers on the replicator ships will take care of them and educate them until they are mature and ready for flinging.

This is actually not a model but a real embryo so using it as a living person albeit a CLONE made from stem cells is not only unethical as is their research but also opens up a pandora's box that has all manner of nasty uses.

Now that said I am NOT against cloning of specific organ's such as heart's, liver's, kidney's and lung's etc from a persons own stem cells up to and including even eventually making spinal nerve tissue etc and even limb's but this is going far too far in that it is an actual embryo albeit not one made from two parent's but a stem cell based clone of who ever those stem cells belonged too, that said I personally am of the firm belief that once this foetus began to secret foetal hormones like a naturally conceived foetus and once it was shown to be identical to a natural foetus that it should be regarded as a living foetus.

The fact they are now going to grow human embryo's to use for experimentation is both worrying and gone way too far away from ethical research in my opinion as well as being a damned ungodly thing for these nut jobs to have done.

Remember also that while this was only grown to 14 days old if they had put this in an actual womb it would have produced a real human being albeit one with identical DNA and RNA to the stem cell's donor so once again calling it a model is in my opinion simply a way of trying to get around ethical boundaries by these unethical people.

What if they were able to create a clone of your body and transfer your consciousness into it to save you from suffering a long painful death like having terminal cancer?

You go to the facility, they take your dna and grow a clone of you, and when it's ready they transfer your consciousness into a new, cancer free body.

I know this reads like science fiction but I'm trying to be optimistic.

This technology is still in it's infancy, and I have no idea how long it takes for the clone to grow, I'm assuming right now it's the same time frame as natural development, so in the case of consciousness transfer from a dying person into a new body, it's highly likely they'd have to go through infancy again.

I was told that when you die and go to heaven, you wake up in a body that is exactly like the one you had when you were at your peak in life, refreshed rejuvinated and young again, some people prefer an older incarnation, but whatever the matter, you're healthy and the body is disease free and vital.

I'm not claiming any authority on the matter, as such things are beyond my control, but I thought I'd relay the information for consideration and furthering the discussion.

Whatever ethical considerations you have, God is allowing people to do this and the experiments are showing promise, so I think this might be part of the Greater Plan.

We'll see as time unfolds whether or not this is going to have any validation.

Like I said, I don't know how to transfer a consciousness into a biological housing and I don't know if scientists have that ability or not, or if these clones will simply be performing the functions of the biological machine and stare off into space with dead eyes and nothing to animate them in a positive direction.

It's a slippery slope, and raises all sorts of ethical and spiritual questions.

I think they do something similar in the 1992 movie "Freejack" with a sort of time teleportation medicine flung in for good measure.

The question begs however, would something be lost in translation?

Are we more than the sum of our parts?

I think the likes of Gnosticism alludes to the purpose of life being to enable the "Divine Spark" to be released from captivity in matter.

Or something to that approximation.

Only one way to find out, or we can keep speculating about how Devine life is.

It could settle quite a bit of unsettling questions...

I wonder what some are afraid of?

I don't know, the brain is so complex and I'm still learning about Neuropsychology.

I understand that chemical intervention and surgery can affect the personality of the patient, but I don't know if during a consciousness transfer if the entire memory data set is replicated exactly or modified in some way.

There are case examples of patients who have brain surgery waking up speaking different languages, some have complete amenisia of who they are and have to be told their life history, some folks lose certain skill sets or talents, some gain them.

I can't say whether it's the work of the surgeon or Gods Hand at work, but it might be a combination of both.

It doesn't look very "divine" for some.

Then again perspective would be the ticket.

Unsettling questions eh? To my mind, it's more the unsettling answers some people have problems swallowing.

I think further study is required before coming to any sort of definitive answers or conclusions where the likes of consciousness is concerned.

They are in the post-through if the pace where the likes of neurological science progressing is anything to go by.

Then again there are also philosophical points to also consider.

Agreed.

I'm envisioning all sorts of scenarios to this new development and ways it could be a positive advancement for humanity, and in ways it could be a horrible nightmare.

I prefer to be optimistic about the future, lord knows I'm up to my ears in dystopian nightmares.
