not to be picky but i'm not sure you understand it either, but there are areas thought will survive, the high weald between the north/south downs is where the gov would evacuate a chunk of london to, its why the area is devoid of major bases or sites of intest/production, no one is daft enough to simply accept the premise of threads as the de facto outcome, its why the gov has built its regional hqs in certain regions.

I understand its bad idea to see it happen, and i am being rather picky there.

We've all seen "threads" nickyw, if its anything like that, which i strongly suspect it would be, x 10 in this day of age, im afraid im calling games a bogey.

Put it this way if you live near any sort of major town or city, nuclear war is apt to ruin your day here in the UK, so that's the majority of us are screwed, and whatever is left standing, well good luck with that, and trying to pick up those pieces.

Be best to go out in the first few seconds by my guess.

i didn't argue against any impact you suggested the uk would be wiped off the map which i said is not proven.. there is a reason we are fed nonsense about water shortages when the greensands under the downs can keep this country going through a 300 year drought and the extractable oil and gas amounts to that already extracted from the north sea, where there should be production there is a void.. resource rich areas are just left fallow.

my history teacher got me into this is the 70s, she said don't believe all the gov propaganda our country is not the weak/nonsense we are told it is, if i push the boat out i spend at most £60 a week on food, its hardly the bank breaking exercise we're told it is, there is the fear and then there is reality.

edit to add, on your last point i'd rather be on a cat heading out to blue water with my kids and grandkids..

Well, you realise that about 3 or 4 Russian Satan 2 ICBM plus accompanying warhead payloads could pretty much target all the major cities and surrounding infrastructure, and thats not even thinking about or taking in to account the incoming cruise missiles if they manage to get their Bears and other bombers off the ground and into any sort of position to launch.

It depends on what you mean by wiped off the map i suppose, but like i said the center of just about every major city would be decimated.

Same as any major military infrastructure and ports up and down the island.

Depends on how much they wish to hurt us but again we don't bode well in any sort of nuclear exchange.

And its one of the main reasons we choose to field ballistic nuclear submarines as a deterrent response force.

Sound but that doesn't change the geography of the island or the fact that she now accommodates 67.33 million people or thereabouts.

Those not destroyed in any sort of initial exchange would most likely tear themselves apart simply trying to survive the first few months.

Again not a game any sane person thinks they could win by my guess and hence the reason i hope it never happens.

Me to nickyw, now i come to think about it.

Lets hope we are all still around so my own kids can give me some grandkids.

Somewhere like Switzerland at least seems to be prepared for such an eventuality with bunkers and provisions all over the place.

Again through, who the feck wants to play Fallout 4 for real? LoL

I do want to play "Fallout London" all the same, still wanting on that one which i hope still materialises.

I don't think any amount of preparation is going to help if the worst comes around.

The late Prince Philip described Switzerland as "Phobic hand washers living in a giant Bank".

New Zealand? Maybe a good bet.

As they say, the only likely survivors are going to be cockroaches, and Keith Richards.

Surviving a nuclear war is an extremely complex and grim scenario, that no country can fully guarantee.

The consequences of a full-scale nuclear war would be devastating for the entire planet.

Which is another reason not to play that game.

Or something similar to James Herbert's Domain.

as this is a Ukraine thread and i know you think the nazi bombers had the run of the country but are you really still suggesting that russia does to, that they have no duds, anything that targets blighty will work perfectly as planned every time and face zero defences, as for the targeting not sure about hitting brighton a pop of 250k what for to eradicate the uks gay capital, the greens will bankrupt brighton first..

the thing again comes back to other countries talking about their defences/targets, while we get a version that we are hapless and helpless in the face of overwhelming everything from everyone else totally self denigrating. not even able to turn back a single dingy, we have an airforce that thinks white people are totally useless a navy that is ona mission to be an ally, and we're subjected to an army of invaders.

we never talk details of this stuff, the slight of hand or the use we put the channel crossers to.. my nan was one in the 30s she ended up in the land army as one if the land girls, most of the others ended up as kings most loyal enemy aliens, the same was true of the huguenot battalions even though they hated the english.

i'm just not that keen on being taken for a walk around the garden.. i might be blond but not a sterotype.

as i'm on the coast the plan whatever, 28 days, zombies or nuclear war is to purloin a 50+ cat with the kids and head to blue water.. that's the only chance i think is the most viable to sit out the initial stages as we have seen not all weapons work as planned or as good as they are cracked up to be..

nickyw they don't need to come anywhere near the country to bomb it from above or lob cruise missiles from afar which is kind of the salient point.

And we don't have any sort of realistic defense against such an attack or any kind of functional anti-ballistic missile defence capability at or disposal.

As to the having some duds, possibly, but i dont think i would want to play spin that bottle.

The dinghies situation could occupy a few threads methinks.

That has to stop, i don't know how through.

I'm just not that keen on seeing nuclear war because where i live my garden along with the rest of the surrounding area would be screwed.

still missing the point i was challenging the assumption of an unimpeded attack, my intention was to provoke a discussion point that aside from accuracy and failure rates we're not utterly defenceless, we have an intheatre abm shield, we also provided a partial shield to poland as part of the wider shield of poland, but it appears you buy the idea we don't have anything for ourselves in turn thus i find it sad you think russia won before we even start. that's the kind of thinking that usually demands peace talks, like the ppu in ww2 seeking peace not war. in other words stands in opposition to the eu on this topic..

i'm on the fringes of the pevensey levels, there is little around here aside from london large urban areas max at the 100k mark.. moat sit in the 20 to 40k mark.. no heavy industry of note which is why i said that the plans where to funnel londoners this way.. as the empty space between the hills.

i didn't fear nuclear war in the 70s and i don't now what scares me more is a biologics like a weaponised ebola where you evacuate your life out of every orifice, thats far more fear generating than nuclear weapons and its far more productive to the winning army to have things to take rather than slag heaps.
