nickyw unless we have a right good few type 45 destroyers in place, and on station, we dont really have any sort of active ballistic missile defence capability that could realistically take down an ICBM, thats just a fact.

Were not utterly defenseless and might be able to destroy the likes of incoming cruise missiles.

But again no real hope of stopping modern Russian ICBM like the Satan 2.

Find it any way you please but there could be no real winner in a nuclear war, certainly not on this little island.

The only thing Russia would win would be our nuclear subs launching in response, never mind the rest of the NATO nuclear powers.

In other words nuclear annihilation and World War 3.

It would be silly not to fear it i suppose.

I certainly did not think my kids would be facing the same sort of cold war era times we grew up in put it that way.

Suppose the world spins and yet still somewhat manages to remain the same.

Same crap slightly different wrapping paper, rinse and repeat........We just don't want to learn by my guess.

Given the state of poor maintenance of Russians hardware as revealed by this war and the sheer corruption that's been going down I'd have to guess that some of their nukes may be duds. But given the numbers, probably won't be much consolation.

Apparently, strategic warheads can be traveling at speeds 4–5 miles per second on the way back down.

Even a dud is apt to make a hell of a mess should it manage to stay on target i suppose.

Essentially you have a highly radioactive rod from god.

Suppose the best that could be hoped for it that they blow-up on launch, down to poor maintenance, or simply never make it to their target area.

I lived thru the cold war, and the Cuban missile crisis.

Never before has this seemed more real.

if we cut to the chase and hand over some of that land I can see multiple ways that play will benefit the alliance more than continuing the conflict.

If The US was invaded and the only solution for peace was to hand over American territory, would you agree to it ?

You mean like if Mexico wanted the other half of their country back...or the Hawaiians wanted all of theirs back (and an end to the military occupation)...that sort of thing?
