Apparently Prigozhin has finally spoken out against Putin, saying that he's 'deeply mistaken' in calling him a traitor. Erm, Prigozhin's got tanks headed in various directions, what's Putin supposed to do, send him flowers and a nice note to calm down?

It's been obvious Prigozhin is Putin's biggest threat/likely succesfor for several months but certainly wasn't expecting such a dramatic turn around - I doubt it will happen but this is the closest Putin has been to getting overthrown in his near 25-year dictatorship.

It's confirmed on a few sites they've captured Russia's Southrn military HQ with videos of tanks and troops one the streets and a Wagner video claiming to be filmed inside the captured HQ.

UK MOD is claiming some Wagner units are advancing north through Vorenezh toward Moscow and claim Russian troops are allowing it but the reaction of Russian National Guard and Security Services is pivotal in the next few hours - obviously in UK MOD interests to forment unrest in Russia to aid Ukraine recapturing land Russia illegally annexed but the claims have some meat to them.

Like others I'm interested in what the Russia bots on here will make of this but also worried about what would happen if the 'coup' is succesful.

Prigozhin has issued a response to Putin's televised statement earlier.

It appears to be a direct, defiant response from Yevgeny Prigozhin, the head of the mercenary group, to President Vladimir Putin's TV address earlier on.

A male voice resembling that of Prigozhin can be heard saying: "About treason of motherland, the president was deeply mistaken.

"We are patriots of our motherland. We have been fighting and are fighting now.

"And nobody is going to - as demanded by the president, the FSB (Russia's security service) or anyone else - to admit our guilt.

"Because we don't want our country to live anymore in corruption, lies and bureaucracy."

In his address on Saturday morning, Putin accused Wagner of high-treason - without specifically naming the group.

The thing is that some of the troops are heading toward Moscow if rumors are to be believed.

So let's hope it's a coup de grâce that's on the horizon as opposed to a third world war.

Just woke up to this news so still catching up on it...

First thought that enters my mind is that, a few days ago, when Wagner started to accuse Russia of killing their soldiers and Prigozhin said he was going to revenge them... around the same time Kiev said that the height of the Ukraine offensive is still to come.
Did they make a deal? Is Wagner opening the way to Moscow for Ukraine?

The West supplied Ukraine with arms, with the agreement that they wouldn't be used on Russian soil.

No , Wagner are still supportive of the war their dispute is with the Russian MOD and the way they have lied to Putin and Russia about the war ... plus the fact they have attacked his troops as they were leaving Bakhmut and most recently yesterday when Prigozhin claims his troops were shelled by Russian forces.

There's Telegram footage of a helicopter on fire claiming to be filmed there today alongside claims two unarmed Mi-8MTPR and one armed Mi-35 were shot down. Others report craft firing on Wagner travelling along the M4 Twatter


Though most reports confirm Wagner have control of Vorenezh after mass defections, there's footage of oil depot on fire there Video claiming Russian helicopter struck it and even that Lukashenko has fled Belarus via jet last night (seems fanciful but flight trackers show it leaving shortly after te civil-war/coup began).

On a more comedic note, I couldn't help myself and checked out The Duran YT channel to see what those two Putin lickspittles had to say. It's hilarious watching them twist themselves into knots over the matter. Their hot take: Prigozhin has made a terrible mistake and let his ambition get the best of him, although the initial tough stance of Russia against Wagner and the attack against his forces was also a mistake. You think??!?!?! And of course they're suggesting that recent articles in the west about the breakdown of Russia and its possible collapse were "conveniently timed", and that the west might be involved in this "failing" coup attempt. Oh yeah, and Putin is "Calm, measured, objective, systematic, sees everything, and takes everything into account" whereas Prigozhin is "confused and consumed by his grievances". And no one else is supporting Prigozhin besides a few people in Wagner. What a couple of shameless clowns.

Report of how Ukrainian troops near Bakhmut are treating the news.

Ukrainian army medics, bringing wounded soldiers from the nearby frontlines around Bakhmut in eastern Ukraine, welcomed news of the military rebellion in Russia.

“If there’s a revolution in Russia, I’m going to get drunk!” grinned one, in the small town of Chasiv Yar.

But others were wary about predicting what impact it might have on the war.

“I hope it helps us," said another experienced military doctor. "But I’m not sure I believe it. It seems more like some kind of show, rather than a real revolution."

With Ukraine in the middle of a key counter offensive, there's a possibility that the country will rush to take advantage of the chaos - and the likely drop in Russian troop morale.

Zelenksy's reaction to the news.

Zelenksy, posting on his Telegram account, says anyone who "chooses the path of evil destroys itself", and that "Russia's weakness is obvious".

Although he does not mention Russia's President Putin by name, Zelensky appears to criticise the Russian leader for "throwing hundreds of thousands" into war.

The longer Russia keeps its troops and mercenaries in Ukraine, "the more chaos, pain and problems it will have for itself later", Zelensky says.

This is either starting to look like Ceasar crossing the Rubicon, Russian troops would be very averse to killing their own. They would be more likely to do the easiest thing and join them. Then wait for the situation to clarify.I am suspicious about the detail of the reports from what now looks like a double war zone. We were a few hours ago on the brink of a Nuclear war, and what amounts to a massive withdrawal of troops from a frontline where civilians were evacuated a few days ago. The Country has really deep bunkers in Certain places Moscow for one.

A rallying call has been made by the governor or Rostov region.

A short while ago, the governor of the Rostov region, Vasiliy Golubev, took to Telegram to urge people to stand with President Putin: "There have been times in the history of Russia when some wanted to separate our society and stoke the flames of civil war... it led to a catastrophe."

He added: "This cannot be allowed to happen again. The Rostov region sides with the President! Dear fellow countrymen, we must be united!"
