Stupid Azz parents that don’t have their weapons locked away. Gang culture, GTA raising kids, take your pick.

The parents should be locked up too

is he not a citizen? He has the right to keep and bear arms does he not? Question for the far right gun advocates. He is a a citizen, His right to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed. Right?

So a six year old kid has the right to bear arms?
Can't get any crazier than that!

The culture both glorifies firearms, and makes them highly available.

There is no mystery here.

I say social media, especially ones like tik-tok are playing a part as well, but on top of major underlying issues. If te mental health of parents is bad then we are passing that stress and anxiety on to our children as well.

I played all matter of video games growing up. Not a killer and have always known it was wrong. These Things added to everything else aren't helping. I see a compilation of things that need addressing on this matter. And I don't see any one race worse off than the rest. Erbody shootin and killing erbody. And no, it's not just gun violence. I see stabbings and beatings with hands and objects for these violent crimes as well. This is far bigger than a gun issue. But YES! lock your fn guns up everyone. That's OUR responsibility.

Ps. A six year old shouldn't even know there's a gun in the house. Much less where to find it (easily).

Yes, the people who purchased and owned the gun should be prosecuted for their irresponsibility that led to a six year old having access to the weapon.

Firearms, like automobiles, can do damage if used irresponsibly. We train and license drivers, and register motor vehicles, because of this.

Yet we dont have a right to drive like we do to keep and bear arms.

However the education and training. There we agree.

Anti gun rhetoric lead to an education taboo for firearms in schools.

I want to add one more thing and I'll let y'all have at it.
Consider this: we need to put our politics on the back burner, and put the well being of our kids first. Our kids see us bickering about all these issues. Trust me they are paying attention to every word we speak. Yes we need to straighten some things out to ensure our kids have a future at all. If we don't get our youth straightened out we won't need to worry about nukes or whether Jesus is coming or not, bc these kids will destroy everything dear before they even have a chance at any future.

The belt needs to make a strong comeback.

Ok, thats my two cents.

What stupidity is this? Only right wing folks care about gun rights?

Most here want the same thing. For people, especially kids to not die and become murderers.

The issue is the vast difference in how to get there.

400 million guns and rising pretty much negate the elimination of firearms tripe.

Just to round out the information or lack of it that we have at this juncture ...

You all are so eager to blame the child ... what did the teacher do to get shot.

ATS is full of stories of the evil that has entered your schools via some creepy child abusing teachers so ...

The Second Amendment, as written, does not have an age restriction.

Before I react to this story, I would like the full story.

If I was this teacher, I would sue the parents of this child, the town school system, the county, the state and then demand that the parents face criminal charges.

www.news4jax.com... -murder/

Okay, so, I present to you Aiden Fucci. This kid lived in an upper class neighborhood. He's white. He was 14 when he stabbed a 13 year old girl (a classmate) over one hundred times. Why? Because he wanted to. When they arrested him he was in the back seat of a cop car posting on tik tok about it. I encourage you to look at this story. Not sure about this particular article.

The mother was arrested after her son Aiden was. She was arrested for trying to wash the blood out of her son's jeans to cover up his horrific crime.
If you look deep into the story there were many many signs that this kid WANTED to murder someone...by stabbing them to death.
This kid has shown zero remorse.

This is NOT just a gun issue...

I'd like to see parents charge for the crime their kids commit with a firearm they didn't store securely, and their right to ever own another firearm revoked permanently.....and their parental rights if negligence on their part is found.

At six, you don't automatically see violence as an appropriate means to handle situations; that's a behavior this poor kid learned, and it's not hard to reason from where.

There should be mandatory triple penalties for anyone caught with an illegal, stolen or unregistered gun.

The money thrown at getting gun legislation passed might be better spent stopping gang violence.

There's no excuse for any child, let alone a six year old, to have access to a weapon. None.

Except we have no idea where the gun came from...

"We'll get the investigation done, there's questions we'll want to ask and find out about. I want to know where that firearm came from, what was the situation," Drew added.

LINK IN THE OP

You're right; it's possible it didn't come from his home. Whomever it came from needs to be dealt a very serious punishment.

We dont have a gun problem. We have a culture problem. A culture which does not value life or responsibility.

It's a bit of both don't you think? I have no solutions, and as you point out, so many guns now, the horse has left the barn..but you have to at least recognise it, right, wrong or indifferent.
This sh#t is unreal.

No, it's not. I grew up with toy guns, played the most violent video games available, and watched some of the most violent movies available. Access to media isn't the issue. Proper raising of children is the issue. Everyone wants to blame everything but the damned parents; they are no longer parenting. Your six year old tries to murder a teacher, you go to jail for attempted murder, amongst other things.

It's all on the parents, point blank, period.

Only 3 countries, the USA, Mexico and Guatemala have such a thing enshrined as a right.

Guns are primarily weapons, and creating a law that legitimizes the unrestricted carrying of weapons by the populace has consequence, as we can see in this case.

The 2nd also does not specifically reference firearms, but uses the more general term 'arms', even though there were numerous types of arms extant when it was framed. It would be ludicrous to think that the 2nd legitimizes spears, bows and arrows, bombs and mines, clubs and maces, poisons, and other things specifically manufactured as weapons, but it does.

The 2nd also specifically associates with public defense against tyrannical governance, by organized militias, and not personal defense for other reasons.

The US gun lobby has too much power, and over-utilizes the 2nd as justification, which is clearly contrary to public safety, in general.

That, combined with the culture and availability of firearms is leading to consequences such as this news report reveals.

Registration of firearms, training and licensing of firearm owners and users and prosecution of unlicensed people found in possession of a firearm are reasonable because of the seriousness of misuse.
