Sebastian Gonzalez-Hernandez, the parent of a six-year-old child who was in the class when the shooting happened, said she "screamed at her kids to run away" and added: "Even after she'd been shot she was thinking about the safety of her children."

Wow... I have no words right now...

The kid is Latino, his name and a picture was actually released on AP but quickly pulled

I canny see why the race of a 6-year-old should matter. As to why his name was pulled, i can only speculate as to possible legal reasons.

I don't see why it was ever leaked because it is common knowledge crimes involving children their name and identity is not released to the public.

That would be my understanding also, maybe to many people, aka the kids at the school, and now all their parents, and friends, know the identity of the shooter, hence pointless to attempt to cover it up, would be my shot in the dark there.

I was not raised by abusers, I was abused by a family friend and my parents at first didn't believe me but when I had to show actual marks after the abuser completely escalated the abuse and they noticed, I was scrutinized and checked on daily, mistrusted and declared the black sheep.

Not by words but by actions.

Please do not burden yourself by feeling sorry about me. I can deal with it today, or else I would not have posted. Theres almost no emotional attachment to that. Hence the trigger warning, that I never do, because I am desensitized about it via rapid eye movement desensitizing therapy, I do not have a filter. It's part of my life, I acknowledge how it affected me and my path but other than that, I was somehow able to find peace with it. Life has to go on.

Also most of the real pain came after that, many other children had it a lot worse then I had, so I do not want to come over like whining. It's really ice cold logic and retelling for others to read. I hope it may help those that are affected by such things and decided to ignore the trigger warning. I dislike the word "trigger-warning" as it has been watered down by being overused, by the wokes who demand trigger warnings for daily life struggles.

Stay strong and you will definitely help others at some point in time. Wish you a nice evening, I am going offline now (3AM)

Agreed race shouldn't matter, that's my thinking exactly...

Unfortunately we don't live in that world and if this teacher was anything other than white it would be pasted on every headline nationwide (I don't know how it works there) "Black Teacher Shot By" ect ect.

Deciphering the press is odd, if an ethnicity isn't mentioned then 10 times out of 10 the perpetrator or suspect in a crime is black or another minority, they're protected/shielded from public scrutiny.

We share this in common.

And again, yes, I have heard stories that made mine seem like a fairy tale disney movie. Things that make your soul cringe. And same for that person, no where to go, and no one that would help. After it was exposed, they too were dubbed the "black sheep" and exactly as you said it, "by actions not words." That was my end result as well.

Indeed, especially when the age of the little fellow is the variable that pops right out, by my reconning anyhoo.

And yet the teacher is white, and the news story has made it across the pond in a matter of mere hours or a day.

It's maybe not front page, stop the press, or mainstream news in the USA down the frequency that such events happen to take place.

Again im not sure as to how many of your NEWS networks happen to have covered the story but FOX appears to be one of them, i cannot imagine the others will ignore the story.

I canny really comment there, public opinion in the USA regarding certain matters like those above are sometimes hard to gauge from 1000s of miles away.

Has anyone stated what we are all thinking here?

It takes a good 6 year old with a gun to stop a bad 6 year old with a gun!

We all know it!!

Solutions people!

I strongly believe it's culture and video games that play a huge part in these juvenile gun slingers. All these killing games that children have access to today. Has anyone seen Grand Theft Auto ( GTA)? As for the culture, I'm not going there because it would be long rant.

Not sure if anyone has made this leap yet, but anyone on Drudgereport.com can see that the Sinaloa Cartel and other cartels are now using children as killers in order to exert control over various communities and their people. This would include children in the US being groomed to be killers. Perhaps since the child in question is Hispanic, could this child be one of those children of a parent involved in a Cartel?

Because 6 year old kids if told that their parents will die if they don’t do what they are told, generally will follow instructions to the letter in order to save their parents.

Just a thought that occurred to me after reading today’s headlines.

It is not the video games. If it were, my part of town would be filled with discarded game consoles. It’s a lot of other factors that I can go on an equally lengthy and insightful rant that might turn into a lecture. I live in a poor part of town, and surrounding me are a lot of criminals whose children are also criminals. It’s a multi generational thing and I can tell you that if it were truly video games, then why aren’t white people and Asian people far more prone to violence? Are you telling me that black and Hispanics play video games at a much higher rate?

It is not video games that make kids do stupid things. a reply to: Thunderkiss75

Yes, i know you dont like us having guns. And my answer is the same now as its always been.

I dont care.

Guns arent going away but we can do better with culture as well as education and training which Ive stood behind for years.

I am not advocating a blanket ban on all guns, for all people.

Clearly there are some firearms types that should be restricted (high capacity automatic and semi-automatic weapons).

And there are some people who should not be allowed to carry and use firearms (those dealing with psychological issues, and/or those with a felony, drug addiction, or previous firearm misuse on record).

so we should make some laws covering this type of thing? Why not just make it illegal to hurt other folks? Oh, we already have those laws in place. Why, it's almost as if the #ing CRIMINALS don't even care about the laws. That sure does put a wrinkle in your pontification.

Perhaps rather than coddle the criminals, we should prove that breaking our laws, results in real punishment and make it bad enough that nobody would risk the punishment, so they would refrain from doing the crime. But that makes the feel good liberals all giddy for the rights of the criminal. Well, I suppose we tried, On with the indiscriminate killing.

In this instance, the child having acquired a gun, took it to school, and shooting a teacher would seem to be the problem.

We don't even know where he got the gun yet.

How about waiting for the full story before you start throwing his parents in jail (or worse).

My take on unexpected gun violence is that in a nation of over 300 million people its inevitable that some are defective and we need to learn to live with it because guns and crazy and bad parenting are all here to stay. This nation was born of violence and armed people and they're never going to disarm, any attempt to try to do so would result in endless piles of dead bodies on both sides. And don't argue any horse # with me about how the government has nuclear bombs, they're totally irrelevant in asymmetric warfare. Look at Northern Ireland, Iraq, Afghanistan, and Vietnam and tell me how they worked out for nuclear armed powers.

There is always a chance of armed teacher or security person shooting an armed student, regardless of their age. If it was a police officer being threatened by an armed 6-year-old they would shoot without hesitation. Heck, they even shoot barking family dogs!

Yes, some cops are pathetic cowardly assholes.

There needs to be full investigation of this kids family/guardians/caregivers. From experience in the UK there's only a handful of kids that age group that can't be trust/let near knives in forrest education settings and they're the worst of the worst cases of child abuse/neglect.

I don't see this as a gun control issue as kids that age are more than capable of understanding such things are for looking, not for touching and there's been a major violation of the gun owner's responsibilities by leaving it (presumably loaded) where a six year old could get hold of it, steal it and take it to school for a few hours without them noticing which caused the tragedy.

For the thread: It takes a village.

Nope. Screw that. The government has far too much power to take kids away fro their parents. The Village has ZERO property Rights in the children, for better or worse, they belong to the parents. Period.

I think you took that wrong. It means it takes all of us to raise these children. It's a team effort. We all have our part in the future of this world and it's in ensuring our kids have proper guidance from all of us. "It takes a village to raise a child" (an old saying).

So are you suggesting that the chance of a school staff member shooting a child without cause is greater than the chance of a criminal shooting the school up?

One of the biggest problems with arming teachers is that they need to have the gun somewhere that's easily accessible to them, but not to anybody else. Just look at the number of times that cops or air marshals have left their guns in rest rooms.

Can you imaging if a teacher did the same?

This is ridiculous to even entertain!

CCW is concealing a gun on your person...

Are we going to further dive into the what if's some more?

What if the school janitor left a bottle of cleaning solution in the bathroom and some kid drank it? See how silly this could get?

If a teacher wants to conceal carry in school, they should be allowed to do so, but it should not be required or a condition to employment.

And that firearm should never be not on the person carrying, such as left in a classroom or office, even if "locked".

I think it'd be wiser to make sure gun owners don't embarass other gun owners by being outwitted by a six year old instead of making it acceptable for people who may shoot six year olds to teach kids.

Though this tragedy is so incredibly rare I'm guessing it was an illegal firearm.

When I was young, my community did not have cell phones. We had party lines. If you don't know what a party line is, and I am sure that you are way to young to have ever used one, so look it up when you get a chance, if you want a laugh.

No one had a TV yet, so the community pastime, was looking out your window. My mother and father both worked over 75 miles from the house, yet when they got home, they knew every steps us children had made. Every home we visited, every step around the community, if we went into the fields, or if we went to the beach. Every neighbor felt they had to report our activity to our parents anytime our parents were away.

If one of my neighbors or any older person caught us doing something we had no business, we would pray they would just spank us and get it over with. Because if they told my Father, not just a spanking was coming, you would be given a chore punishment that would take days to complete.

The neighbors always had their eyes on you. They would chastise you and tear your little behind up if they caught you being disrespectful, destructive, or stealing from the wrong fields, or stealing from the crab pots. They usually did not say anything to our parents because they knew we would get another spanking topped with a punishment. Unless it was something that they knew would get back them from someone else.

We grew up being raised by the village, and the same thing went with teachers. They could spank you, and they could call your parents. Again, you prayed they wouldn't.

I think Police or social services may have inquired as to where the child got the gun by now.

Probably one of the first things they asked him.

Also, the fact that the kid somehow thought it would be ok to shoot his teacher certainly doesn't bode well as to his parents teaching him what's right or wrong now does it? No matter where the gun came from.
