Now I'm really curious if anyone here doesn't.

I mean, it takes a certain measure of balls and brains to come to this site and post.

Lol... no, it doesn't. This is basically Reddit for angry bitter republicans and UFO enthusiasts.

So all the lefties are just angry republicans?

Nothing of the cryptozoology folks?

Methinks you're watering down a large part of the site just to make a silly point.

Balls and brains?

I thought it was just a lack of effs to give.

Hey, I have F's.

I don't give them freely but I still have a few!

Because my chatter is basically nonsense, and makes it more difficult to fall asleep, and it goes away if i eat brainfoods. This is why i think its a fixable problem, and not normal.

next time you want the chatter to stop, pay attention to your tongue, chances are it is pressed against the roof of your mouth. Relax your tongue and the chatter stops.

I'm not sure why it works but it has something to do with speech-brain-tongue connections.
I've tried it and it seem to work most of the time

Ask him if he has much of an imagination next.

It seems to be a tool we develop, some need to build things in their mind's eye to imagine. Others just see. I developed my imagination around the same time I developed a monologue.

Can you have an artist sing songs in your head so to speak? I'm guessing your husband doesn't.

you're right, he doesn't and he can't.
Although he says that when he reads, he can't hear himself, but he can see what is written

I'd have a hell of a time denying that!

There are distinct processes, one is more a Dialoge with myself where I process things that happened or are to happen, the voice is always mine, even if I fill in others. But then there is a whole set off apparently not me voices that when they talk I wondere where that comes from. I can have a dialoge with them and the response is very unfamiliar, unlike when I have one with myself...

What does mental health, in a sick society, say anyways anymore?

I think I know what you mean with the 'whole set of other voices' that you have no idea where it's coming from, although for me, they still sound like me, but not in my usual way of thinking or even vocabulary (if that makes sense?)
Happens a lot when I'm writing stories or poetry. At the end I read it over and it feels like I didn't write it. Make you question your own sanity! lol

But maybe I’m better at predictive tasks since I can run through simulation like conversations in my head.

And there is another thing I thought everyone did!
Running a 'simulation' in your mind before doing something, imagining, or visualizing multiple outcomes before taking action. I can't remember a time when I didn't do that

well, so far you seem to be the only one who said not to have inner conversations...

Maybe forums serve as an outlet for people with the voice.

It can externalize that energy that was otherwise internal. Kind of a release.

Hi XipeTotex. I have struggled in the past with some of the challenges my ego mostly wouldn't leave me alone about. I can relate and have found anti psychotics useful for providing some space and quite when I need to rest. I'd prefer if there were a more natural way to help find that balance.

Please consider listing some of the foods you found helpful.

Lions mane is the only thing that brings me peace, combined with an otherwise healthy diet, you can almost feel the neurons finding better and stronger paths in your head. Its one of those things everyone should try out, its like nothing else.
Oh, forgot to mention that if you cant find fresh ones for sale in any store, you can get grow boxes, its simple to grow, just cut a few holes in the bag and water, once its done fruiting you can transplant the mycelium mass on to freshly cut logs and place them to your surroundings, backyard, hiking trails.

Mine isn't always internal. Sometimes I outright talk to myself. It gets weird when I am so absorbed in my own thoughts that I forget where I am and bust out a dialogue in front of other people.

I sometimes hear it on the outside, to help warn me of danger usually.

Your post also reminds me of my Oma. She would talk with herself out loud sometimes. My German isn't what it should be, so I'm not sure what she was talking about usually. Looking back, I find it peculiar that I often didn't ask. She was usually very direct with me, I felt reassured that if it was important she would tell me in English.

Sub vocalizations can be read, this seemed different. I'd ask her occasionally what she was saying, I'm not sure if she realized she was speaking aloud.

Sometimes someone will ask me "What's so funny?" and it's usually jokes or humour my ego sees or brings to my awareness. I find it odd when someone claims they don't have that inner dialogue, and usually figure they are more of a visual thinker. For me, the dialogue I describe is auditory, even if the voices are silent.

Same, the dialogue can be very loud as well. Sometimes it's common sense, some sort of guiding myself through things, but sometimes it's simple humor, or downright sarcasm!
and sometimes it's singing in multiple voices...

Thank you, I have come across Lions mane from my research into shamanism.

I've been getting ready to go back to more healthier eating and cutting back on smoking. My ego called me brother one day, and our relationship has been better. I need to practice rolling with that change. I appreciate the tip.

Doubly so. I saw your edit, and have been thinking about mushrooms lately. I feel they could be good for improving food security, and in this case emotional well being as well.

Often it's really dark humour or bad jokes a situation I find myself in invokes. I do tell others if they ask, though they often find it unsettling to say the least.

The singing in multiple voices you brought up reminds me of an exercise I read about, Napoleon Hill encouraged. I believe he called it a Mastermind session. It's imagining and inviting input from those one looks up to, to examine and investigate an idea in one's mind. He used the context of self development or business, though enjoy reflecting on memories of others or groups on the regular.

So reading aids his ability to imagine.

So many awesome posts in this thread. Like CriticalStinker I reckon we can learn different ways of thinking, maybe even trick the body to start or stop other ways too.

I've been trying to figure out what my base version of thinking is, it's a bit of a trip remembering baby thoughts and the like. Reminds me an awful lot of that 'reptilian' mindful way of thinking but it's not that. Not quite.

Can confirm. I don't experience actual language in my thoughts unless I imitate a third party relationship with myself which feels slightly unhinged. Reading is the most common example of this relationship, which as I'm reading my own words, sounds like I'm speaking into a shoebox. Ooof.

I cannot wrap my head around that! lol
when I read I hear the characters different voices as clearly as if I would read out loud

Me too.

I attribute accents even.

This is why books translated to movies are so distracting as I hear the voices as "wrong" though everything in my mind is conceptual not actually heard or seen, which I can't really explain. Think it's tied to the fact I have aphantasia. Was shocked that people literally can visualize. My imagination is built from concepts which flow to me fine but they are harder to hold and work with unless written down/drawn out. So imagined voices, from books, movies, or talking to myself all have different characteristics/tones/accents but I don't actually hear them per se.

It's really amazing how different many people's minds work and yet we are all fairly functional.

Thanks for the kind words.

What helped me find new ways to think was getting rid of the box I made for myself. There’s a difference between acknowledging where you have strengths and defining who you are or what are your limitations.

One of the concerns people have when we talk about how we think is normality. Any time the internal monologue vs other ways of thinking come up, after the almost shock all parties have to hear the different kinds, you’ll see people try to find other who think the same as them for validation or a sense of normality. The internal monologue people seem to be a bit more apprehensive as there’s a line between your voice and other voices, so people don’t want to feel crazy.

But there are ways to explore the other ways even if it’s not your strong suit. I used to have logic based ways of thinking to a fault ( that’s not to say I think I’m always right, just the style of thinking I am custom to). My sister is very artistic, and one day her and I were talking about creativity, and I was kind of bummed I’m not nearly as creative as her, and she laughed and said I was just in a different way. She explained how I go about thinks when I’m problem solving like at work or with something broken around the house or in the car. Or how I interact with computers and find solutions to certain things.

Once she opened that up to me I leaned into it and started to try and be more creative with problem solving. It was something I was comfortable enough with, and I think it’s kind of like a muscle. Once you start working it out more it becomes stronger. And while I still couldn’t take a blank canvas and paint something, I could walk into a room and start to envision how to frame it, what kind of lighting I want the end project to have, and predict what kind of snags I’m going to run into along the way. And maybe that would be harder for an artist since you’re having to factor in natural constraints, something they’re not used to.

But the hardest part is if you’re exploring all these different ways, the first thing you have to do is let go… and that usually comes with a sense of vulnerability. For those with the voice, you can pick up it can often be a sense of anxiety as that’s what stands out. Instead of trying to shut it off I’ve learned to let it go through the motions and often that helps with anxiety. If you think about what worst case scenarios are, they’re often not that bad.
