I don't really want to, but I can't seem to make it stop....
Yeah, I talk to myself in my head more than I talk to real people.

How do you explain murderers saying the voice in their head told them to kill then?

I can't.

All I know is that I have a conscience that tells me what's right and what's wrong and I listen.

Maybe some people hear it and just ignore it...

What? I thought this is normal for everyone!

Not like voices but like talking to myself in my head. There's no answer of course but these are the thoughts. A friend of mine describes it best, I snorted my cola drink out of my nose after I asked him why he talks to himself (loudly), this was his answer, translated:

"I don't always speak to myself but when I do, it's because I need an expert opinion".

lol

Then I asked my husband: "do you have an inner voice that you have conversations with?"

Ask him if he has much of an imagination next.

It seems to be a tool we develop, some need to build things in their mind's eye to imagine. Others just see. I developed my imagination around the same time I developed a monologue.

Can you have an artist sing songs in your head so to speak? I'm guessing your husband doesn't.

I experience this. I typically think of one as ego, and the other as my conscious. It can be quiet upstairs, though I talk to myself frequently. I feel they are looking out for me.

Sometimes someone will ask me "What's so funny?" and it's usually jokes or humour my ego sees or brings to my awareness. I find it odd when someone claims they don't have that inner dialogue, and usually figure they are more of a visual thinker. For me, the dialogue I describe is auditory, even if the voices are silent.

There are distinct processes, one is more a Dialoge with myself where I process things that happened or are to happen, the voice is always mine, even if I fill in others. But then there is a whole set off apparently not me voices that when they talk I wondere where that comes from. I can have a dialoge with them and the response is very unfamiliar, unlike when I have one with myself...

What does mental health, in a sick society, say anyways anymore?

Yes, all the time.

SATAN can mean ADVERSARY

Some say that there is an INVOLUTIONARY force in this Universe in the same way there is an evolutionary force.

The former seeks the blockage of the latter, also acting as a catalyst for the latter.

I say this as it applies to people hearing demonic voices that cause them to do self harm and/or harm to others...

I always thought that the inner voice is your conscience and you're telling me that 50-70% of people don't have one?

WTF?

Explains so much about modern behavior though.

Mine isn't always internal. Sometimes I outright talk to myself. It gets weird when I am so absorbed in my own thoughts that I forget where I am and bust out a dialogue in front of other people.

The main way I think is internal monologue. Though, I think I’m like many in that I have a range of ways I can think. Some people don’t have the internal monologue all the time or as a primary, but they could if they wanted to. Their primary may just be visual, or just manifesting thoughts that don’t have a describable form.

Sometimes I can do visual, like if I think about what aisle in the store I’d find something. Or if it’s sounds I can usually muster that up.

But typically, I’ll play things out in dialogue, which is nice, because I can anticipate conversations, and I can work through the logic of something before I say it.

It just manifests in different ways, it’s only foreign to us because of our experience. If we put the shoe on the other foot, it’s odd to them that we’re constantly chatting with ourselves.

I don’t think any of those are odd, unless of course there are other parties talking in our head that we don’t have control over 😂

Wow.

FWIW, I think your "internal voice" is perfectly normal.

I wonder how the 50 to 70% think ...

Cheers

That’s one of the benefits to exploring different states of mind 😉

But it could be visual, audio, or they can just happen.

Sometimes we’re still thinking about something even though we’re not actually “talking”. Even for those with an internal monologue, if you’re taking part in a task that is really demanding, you may not be able to expend the mental energy to have the “conversation” too. Once things are committed to muscle memory, you don’t actually think about them, like walking. We don’t think to ourselves left foot forward right foot forward.

It’s like coding with computers. The results may be the same, but the method or language on how to get to that result may be different.

I also don’t think there’s an ultimate “better” way of thought. Maybe with specific tasks. I’d have to imagine most successful artists are able to do internal visual manifestations than I. But maybe I’m better at predictive tasks since I can run through simulation like conversations in my head.

Lol... no, it doesn't. This is basically Reddit for angry bitter republicans and UFO enthusiasts.

I have it, i think its an error in the mind, some type of neural problem.

what? No, it is perfectly normal, not some neural problem.
How did you get that idea?

Because my chatter is basically nonsense, and makes it more difficult to fall asleep, and it goes away if i eat brainfoods. This is why i think its a fixable problem, and not normal.

Hi XipeTotex. I have struggled in the past with some of the challenges my ego mostly wouldn't leave me alone about. I can relate and have found anti psychotics useful for providing some space and quite when I need to rest. I'd prefer if there were a more natural way to help find that balance.

Please consider listing some of the foods you found helpful.
